One-loop mass shift formula for kinks and self-dual vortices
A formula is derived that allows us to compute one-loop mass shifts for kinks
and self-dual Abrikosov-Nielsen-Olesen vortices. The procedure is based in
canonical quantization and heat kernel/zeta function regularization methods.Comment: LaTex file, 8 pages, 1 figure . Based on a talk given by J. M. G. at

Acute Hemorrhagic Edema of Infancy
Acute Hemorrhagic Edema of Infancy is a small vessel leucocytoclastic vasculitis affecting young infants. It is characterized by large, target-like, macular to purpuric plaques predominantly affecting the face, ear lobes and extremities. Non-pitting edema of the distal extremities and low-grade fever may also be present. Extra-cutaneous involvement is very rare. Although the lesions have a dramatic onset in a twenty-four to forty-eight hour period, usually the child has a non-toxic appearance. In most cases there are no changes in laboratory parameters. The cutaneous biopsy reveals an inflammatory perivascular infiltrate. It is a benign and auto-limited disease, with complete resolution within two to three weeks leaving no sequelae in the majority of cases. No recurrences are described. We report a case of a 42-day old girl admitted at our hospital with Acute Hemorrhagic Edema of Infancy.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Quantum fluctuations around low-dimensional topological defects
In these Lectures a method is described to analyze the effect of quantum
fluctuations on topological defect backgrounds up to the one-loop level. The
method is based on the spectral heat kernel/zeta function regularization
procedure, and it is first applied to various types of kinks arising in several
deformed linear and non-linear sigma models with different numbers of scalar
fields. In the second part, the same conceptual framework is constructed for
the topological solitons of the planar semilocal Abelian Higgs model, built
from a doublet of complex scalar fields and one U(1) gauge field.Comment: 63 pages, 14 figures, expanded version of two lectures given by

Quantum oscillations of self-dual Abrikosov-Nielsen-Olesen vortices
The mass shift induced by one-loop quantum fluctuations on self-dual ANO
vortices is computed using heat kernel/generalized zeta function regularization
methods. The quantum masses of super-imposed multi-vortices with vorticity
lower than five are given. The case of two separate vortices with a quantum of
magnetic flux is also discussed.Comment: RevTex, 13 pages, 4 figures, 7 tables. Minor corrections. Version to

PLA films with improved flexibility properties by using maleinized cottonseed oil
[EN] This work assesses the potential of maleinized cottonseed oil MCSO as plasticizer in poly(lactic acid) PLA films with improved ductile behaviour. The effects of MCSO are compared with commercially available maleinized oil, i.e. maleinized linseed oil MLO in terms of mechanical, thermal and barrier properties, as well as morphology changes. Plasticized PLA formulations were obtained with a maleinized oil content in the 0 10 wt% range. Addition of both maleinized vegetable oils leads to a slight decrease in the glass transition temperature (Tg) of neat PLA from 63 °C to 60 61 °C. Nevertheless, MCSO provides better overall properties. Addition of 7.5 wt% MCSO increases the elongation at break by 292%. Regarding the barrier properties, both maleinized vegetable oils increase the oxygen transmission rate OTR. Nevertheless, this increase is less pronounced in the case of MCSO thus indicating its higher efficiency compared to MLO. On the other hand, addition of both maleinized vegetable oils do not compromise the overall disintegration of the obtained PLA formulations, thus positioning these additives as environmentally friendly solutions to increase ductile properties in PLA-based films. This research was supported by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness - MINECO, Ref: MAT2014-59242-C2-1-R. A comparative study of experimental configurations in synchrotron pair distribution function
The identification and quantification of amorphous components and nanocrystalline phases
with very small crystal sizes, smaller than ~3 nm, within samples containing crystalline phases is
very challenging. However, this is important as there are several types of systems that contain these
matrices: building materials, glass-ceramics, some alloys, etc. The total scattering synchrotron pair
distribution function (PDF) can be used to characterize the local atomic order of the nanocrystalline
components and to carry out quantitative analyses in complex mixtures. Although the resolution in
momentum transfer space has been widely discussed, the resolution in the interatomic distance space
has not been discussed to the best of our knowledge. Here, we report synchrotron PDF data collected at
three beamlines in different experimental configurations and X-ray detectors. We not only discuss the
effect of the resolution in Q-space, Qmax ins of the recorded data and Qmax of the processed data, but we
also discuss the resolution in the interatomic distance (real) space. A thorough study of single-phase
crystalline nickel used as standard was carried out. Then, selected cement-related samples including
anhydrous tricalcium and dicalcium silicates, and pastes derived from the hydration of tricalcium
silicate and ye’elimite with bassanite were analyzed. This work is part of the PhD of Mr. Jesus D. Zea-Garcia. This work was supported by Spanish MINECO and FEDER [BIA2017-82391-R research project and I3 [IEDI-2016-0079] program]
