    Corrosion Inhibition of Sodium Silicate with Nanosilica as Coating in Pre-Corroded Steel

    This study was conducted to investigate the potential of using sodium silicate with nanosilica as a treatment to inhibit the progress of corrosion in steel specimens that are already corroded. Steel specimens measuring 16 mm in diameter and 4 mm in thickness were prepared and subjected to pre-corrosion by immersion to 3.5% NaCl solution. Two sets of specimens were then dip-coated with sodium silicate containing nanosilica. One set was coated with 1% nanosilica, and the other was coated with 2.5% nanosilica. The coated specimens were then subjected to Complex Impedance Spectroscopy (CIS) at 20 Hz to 20 MHz frequency range. Compared with the sodium silicate coating with 1% nanosilica, the sodium silicate coating with 2.5% nanosilica had a larger semi-circle curve in the Nyquist plot. Similarly, the sodium silicate coating with 2.5% nanosilica also showed larger magnitudes of impedance at the low-frequency region and larger phase angles at the high-frequency regions in the Bode plot. These results imply that the sodium silicate coating with 2.5% nanosilica coating demonstrated better capacitive behavior.     Experiencia subjetiva del empleado en colaboradores de establecimientos hoteleros de la región Junín

    Objective: To determine the characteristics of the employee experience in employees of hotel establishments in the Junín region. Methods. The type of research was basic, descriptive level, simple descriptive design and non-experimental-transectional. The methods used were observation, analysis and synthesis and inductive-deductive, while the instrument applied was the questionnaire and the technique was the survey. The sample consisted of 320 employees of hotel establishments in the Junín region and the sample selection criterion was non-probabilistic by convenience. Results. The main results were that the levels of employee experience at the subjective level were regular in its physical and technological dimensions, and high in its cultural dimension; which reflects that, despite the adverse conditions due to the covid-19 pandemic, the collaborators performed their tasks with appropriateness and assertiveness. Conclusion. Companies in the hotel sector should implement programs that reinforce and establish the objective conditions of their work environment in order to generate profitable and positive subjective experiences in favor of their employees and the productivity of the organization.Objetivo. Determinar las características del employee experience en colaboradores de establecimientos hoteleros de la región Junín. Métodos. El tipo de investigación fue básica, de nivel descriptivo, diseño descriptivo simple y no experimental-transeccional. Los métodos fueron la observación, el análisis y síntesis y el inductivo-deductivo, mientras que el instrumento aplicado fue el cuestionario y la técnica la encuesta. La muestra estuvo conformada por 320 colaboradores de establecimientos hoteleros de la región Junín y el criterio de selección de la muestra fue no probabilístico por conveniencia. Resultados. Los principales resultados fueron que los niveles de experiencia del empleado a nivel subjetivo fueron regulares en sus dimensiones física y tecnológica, y de nivel alto en su dimensión cultural; lo que refleja que, pese a las condiciones adversas por pandemia de la covid-19, los colaboradores desarrollaron labores con propiedad y asertividad. Conclusión. Las empresas del sector hotelero deben implementar programas que refuercen y establezcan las condiciones objetivas de su entorno laboral a fin de generar experiencias subjetivas redituables y positivas en favor de sus colaboradores y la productividad de la organización

    Bienestar mental y optimismo laboral en empleados turísticos de una región de Perú

    The objective was to determine the relationship between mental well-being and labor optimism in tourist collaborators in the Junín region. The paradigm was positivist-quantitative, basic type, relational level, non-experimental-transectional design. Observational and inductive-deductive method. The probabilistic-stratified sample consisted of 384 dependents. The results showed that there is a direct and significant correlation between positive mental health and optimism, with a bilateral significance level of less than 1%, as well as a Kendall Tau b correlation strength of 0.445. It is concluded that the greater the mental well-being, the greater the labor optimism.El objetivo fue determinar la relación entre bienestar mental y optimismo laboral en colaboradores turísticos de la región Junín. El paradigma fue positivista-cuantitativo, tipo básico, nivel relacional, diseño no experimental. Método observacional e inductivo-deductivo. La muestra probabilística-estratificada fue de 384 dependientes.     Association of common ATM variants with familial breast cancer in a South American population

    Background: The ATM gene has been frequently involved in hereditary breast cancer as a low-penetrance susceptibility gene but evidence regarding the role of ATM as a breast cancer susceptibility gene has been contradictory. Methods: In this study, a full mutation analysis of the ATM gene was carried out in patients from 137 Chilean breast cancer families, of which 126 were BRCA1/2 negatives and 11 BRCA1/2 positives. We further perform a case-control study between the subgroup of 126 cases BRCA1/2 negatives and 200 controls for the 5557G > A missense variant and the IVS38-8T > C and the IVS24-9delT polymorphisms. Results: In the full mutation analysis we detected two missense variants and eight intronic polymorphisms. Carriers of the variant IVS24-9delT, or IVS38-8T > C, or 5557G > A showed an increase in breast cancer risk. The higher significance was observed in the carriers of IVS38-8T > C (OR = 3.09 [95% CI 1.11-8.59], p = 0.024). The IVS24-9 T/(-T), IVS38-8 T/C, 5557 G/A composite genotype confered a 3.19 fold increase in breast cancer risk (OR = 3.19 [ 95% CI 1.16-8.89], p = 0.021). The haplotype estimation suggested a strong linkage disequilibrium between the three markers (D' = 1). We detected only three haplotypes in the cases and control samples, some of these may be founder haplotypes in the Chilean population. Conclusion: The IVS24-9 T/(-T), IVS38-8 T/C, 5557 G/A composite genotype alone or in combination with certain genetic background and/or environmental factors, could modify the cancer risk by increasing genetic inestability or by altering the effect of the normal DNA damage response

    Use of >100,000 NHLBI Trans-Omics for Precision Medicine (TOPMed) Consortium whole genome sequences improves imputation quality and detection of rare variant associations in admixed African and Hispanic/Latino populations

    Most genome-wide association and fine-mapping studies to date have been conducted in individuals of European descent, and genetic studies of populations of Hispanic/Latino and African ancestry are limited. In addition, these populations have more complex linkage disequilibrium structure. In order to better define the genetic architecture of these understudied populations, we leveraged >100,000 phased sequences available from deep-coverage whole genome sequencing through the multi-ethnic NHLBI Trans-Omics for Precision Medicine (TOPMed) program to impute genotypes into admixed African and Hispanic/Latino samples with genome-wide genotyping array data. We demonstrated that using TOPMed sequencing data as the imputation reference panel improves genotype imputation quality in these populations, which subsequently enhanced gene-mapping power for complex traits. For rare variants with minor allele frequency (MAF) 86%. Subsequent association analyses of TOPMed reference panel-imputed genotype data with hematological traits (hemoglobin (HGB), hematocrit (HCT), and white blood cell count (WBC)) in ~21,600 African-ancestry and ~21,700 Hispanic/Latino individuals identified associations with two rare variants in the HBB gene (rs33930165 with higher WBC [p = 8.8x10-15] in African populations, rs11549407 with lower HGB [p = 1.5x10-12] and HCT [p = 8.8x10-10] in Hispanics/Latinos). By comparison, neither variant would have been genome-wide significant if either 1000 Genomes Project Phase 3 or Haplotype Reference Consortium reference panels had been used for imputation. Our findings highlight the utility of the TOPMed imputation reference panel for identification of novel rare variant associations not previously detected in similarly sized genome-wide studies of under-represented African and Hispanic/Latino populations

    Acta de congresoLa conmemoración de los cien años de la Reforma Universitaria de 1918 se presentó como una ocasión propicia para debatir el rol de la historia, la teoría y la crítica en la formación y en la práctica profesional de diseñadores, arquitectos y urbanistas. En ese marco el VIII Encuentro de Docentes e Investigadores en Historia del Diseño, la Arquitectura y la Ciudad constituyó un espacio de intercambio y reflexión cuya realización ha sido posible gracias a la colaboración entre Facultades de Arquitectura, Urbanismo y Diseño de la Universidad Nacional y la Facultad de Arquitectura de la Universidad Católica de Córdoba, contando además con la activa participación de mayoría de las Facultades, Centros e Institutos de Historia de la Arquitectura del país y la región. Orientado en su convocatoria tanto a docentes como a estudiantes de Arquitectura y Diseño Industrial de todos los niveles de la FAUD-UNC promovió el debate de ideas a partir de experiencias concretas en instancias tales como mesas temáticas de carácter interdisciplinario, que adoptaron la modalidad de presentación de ponencias, entre otras actividades. En el ámbito de VIII Encuentro, desarrollado en la sede Ciudad Universitaria de Córdoba, se desplegaron numerosas posiciones sobre la enseñanza, la investigación y la formación en historia, teoría y crítica del diseño, la arquitectura y la ciudad; sumándose el aporte realizado a través de sus respectivas conferencias de Ana Clarisa Agüero, Bibiana Cicutti, Fernando Aliata y Alberto Petrina. El conjunto de ponencias que se publican en este Repositorio de la UNC son el resultado de dos intensas jornadas de exposiciones, cuyos contenidos han posibilitado actualizar viejos dilemas y promover nuevos debates.     Development and characterization of nine polymorphic microsatellite markers in the Chilean kelp Lessonia nigrescens

    A total of nine microsatellite loci were isolated and characterized in the Chilean kelp Lessonia nigrescens Bory. Using two different enriched libraries, we observed 1-14 alleles per locus in two samples of 21 kelp individuals each. The observed heterozygosities ranged from 0.05 to 0.80 and all loci are in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium for one or both samples. Seventeen samples collected from different sites showed high allele diversity along the species distribution. The variation detected at these markers is currently being used for the study of populations of Lessonia nigrescens at different geographical scales. (Résumé d'auteur

    Constraints on the evolutionary mechanisms of massive galaxies since z ∼ 1 from their velocity dispersions

    Several authors have reported that the dynamical masses of massive compact galaxies (M_⋆ ≳ 10^11 M_⊙, r_e ∼ 1 kpc), computed as M_dyn=5.0 σ_e^2r_e/GMdyn=5.0 σe2re/G, are lower than their stellar masses M_⋆. In a previous study from our group, the discrepancy is interpreted as a breakdown of the assumption of homology that underlie the M_dyn determinations. Here, we present new spectroscopy of six redshift z ≈ 1.0 massive compact ellipticals from the Extended Groth Strip, obtained with the 10.4 m Gran Telescopio Canarias. We obtain velocity dispersions in the range 161–340 km s^−1. As found by previous studies of massive compact galaxies, our velocity dispersions are lower than the virial expectation, and all of our galaxies show M_dyn < M_⋆ (assuming a Salpeter initial mass function). Adding data from the literature, we build a sample covering a range of stellar masses and compactness in a narrow redshift range z ≈ 1.0. This allows us to exclude systematic effects on the data and evolutionary effects on the galaxy population, which could have affected previous studies. We confirm that mass discrepancy scales with galaxy compactness. We use the stellar mass plane (M_⋆, σ_e, r_e) populated by our sample to constrain a generic evolution mechanism. We find that the simulations of the growth of massive ellipticals due to mergers agree with our constraints and discard the assumption of homology
