Hierarchical boundary elements

In this paper we show the possibility of applying adaptive procedures as an alternative to the well-known philosophy of standard Boundary Elements. The three characteristic steps of adaptive procedures, i.e. hierarchical shape functions families, indicator criteria, and a posteriori estimation, can be defined in order to govern an automatic refinement and stopping of the solution process. Strain balanced quantum posts

Quantum posts are assembled by epitaxial growth of closely spaced quantum dot layers, modulating the composition of a semiconductor alloy, typically InGaAs. In contrast with most self-assembled nanostructures, the height of quantum posts can be controlled with nanometer precision, up to a maximum value limited by the accumulated stress due to the lattice mismatch. Here we present a strain compensation technique based on the controlled incorporation of phosphorous, which substantially increases the maximum attainable quantum post height. Selection program of retinta beef native cattle breed: prelyminary results of the control nucleus

Because of its population, the Retinta breed is considered the second Spanish beef producing cattle with an estimated 200000 to 250000 cows, 10 percent of which are registered in the genealogical book, and is the predominant breed in Southwest Spain. It is a maternal breed outstanding for its care of its offspring, for its milk capacity, for its reproductive features and its magnificent aptness for crossing with specialised breeds such as the Charoles, Fleckviek, or Limusin. In 1995, a selection plan officially went into action, having been planned and developed by a group of ranchers who had worked together since 1987. In this paper, the evolution of this selection group and its principal aims in improving this breed are presented as well as the present situation of the main productive variables. At the present time, for genetic evaluation, it has 40680 weightings from 24833 calves, offspring of 7751 cows from 64 ranches. These data allowed the genetic evaluation of 19443 animals, of which 229 are studs (113 with descendent tested) through the BLUP methodology. Controls of female reproducers" reproductive aptness was also obtained. Lastly, at present 917 young male future studs were evaluated at a test station.Se ha estimado la existencia 200000-250000 vacas de la raza Retinta, de las cuales alrededor del 10 p.100 están inscritas en su libro genealógico por lo que está considerada por su censo la segunda raza española de bovino de carne, constituyendo la raza predominante en el cuadrante suroccidental peninsular. Es una raza considerada maternal, destacando por su cuidado a las crías, capacidad lechera, y características reproductivas y su magnífica aptitud para el cruce con razas especializadas como el Charolés, el Fleckvieck o el Limusín. En el año 1995 comienza oficialmente un esquema de selección que venía desarrollándose por parte de un núcleo de ganaderos desde 1987. En este trabajo se presenta la evolución del núcleo de selección y de las principales objetivos de mejora, así como la situación actual de las principales variables productivas. Hoy día se cuenta para las valoraciones genéticas con 40685 pesadas correspondientes a 24833 terneros, hijos de 7751 vacas correspondientes a 64 ganaderías. Estos datos han permitido valorar genéticamente mediante metodología BLUP a 19443 animales, de los cuales 229 son sementales (113 con prueba de descendencia terminada). De las reproductoras se tiene así mismo controles de su aptitud reproductiva (edad al primer parto e intervalo entre partos). Por último en la actualidad se han valorado en estación de prueba a 917 machos jóvenes futuros reproductores

Fund raising in the international capital markets in 2021

This paper analyses the main trends in the private sector’s issuance activity in international capital markets during 2021, a year in which, despite positive developments that resulted in volumes above pre-2020 levels, the record 2020 figures were not achieved. Thus, the total issuance volume of debt securities declined due to lower issuance in the non-financial corporate sector, which may have been driven by the large amount of funds raised during 2020, lower funding needs for precautionary reasons in view of the improved health situation and higher funding costs. However, bond issuance by the banking sector and other financial institutions increased; this growth was concentrated in the United States, on expectations of monetary policy tightening in that area and regulatory factors. High-yield bond issuance also increased, benefiting from lower risk aversion. By region, the sharpest declines were in the United States, followed by the United Kingdom and the euro area. Conversely, issuance in the equity markets was strong and surpassed the 2020 figures

International capital markets during the COVID-19 crisis

Artículo de revistaThis article analyses the main trends in securities issuance activity on international markets in 2020, a year in which capital markets were very buoyant despite the COVID-19 crisis. In 2020, record figures were posted for issues on fixed-income markets globally, driven by the measures adopted by governments and central banks to smooth financing and foment market liquidity. In terms of sectors, issuance by the public sector and non-financial corporations increased, while there were declines in the banking sector. By region, increases in issuance volumes were across the board, with notably greater dynamism in the United States and the United Kingdom. Finally, as regards time horizon, there was a strong increase in the second quarter of the year, with record figures posted. This may have been due to the fact that many issuers attempted to bring forward their issues in that quarter given the enormous uncertainty over the course of the pandemic and future financing conditions. Equity market issues were also notably buoyant, with figures not recorded since 2009

Aquaculture and taxes in Spain

Cost leadership is one of the strategies that the Spanish industry must follow in order to remain competitive. Its implementation requires paying special attention to the tax issues, among others, due to their impact on the final cost of the product and, consequently, its market potential. Income taxes are a source of great concern to the aquaculture sector, as is usually the case within any industry. Among the many different aspects of taxation that are of special interest to this sector, two have recently received a great deal of attention: the impact of stock assessment on profit estimates, and the possible inclusion of the mussel farming in the Spanish income tax system's so-called objective estimation regime. Therefore, the present paper's analysis focuses on these two issues.El liderazgo en costes es una estrategia obligada en el sector acuícola español, y su implantación requiere dedicar atención especial al ámbito tributario, entre otros, por su incidencia en el coste final del producto y en la capacidad competitiva. Nihonjinron: the Japaneseization of culture and society

El presente Trabajo se enfoca en la sociedad japonesa. Se precisa analizar la situación en la que se encuentra y cómo ha sido capaz de ajustar, en su propio beneficio, sus límites culturales y mantener, así, su sentido de identidad frente a intentos de imposición. En este sentido, se destaca la tensión entre la voluntad de las industrias culturales japonesas de promoción de un producto con valores híbridos y el interés gubernamental nipón de difusión de un modelo monolítico de cultura basado en la homogeneidad e inspirado en los preceptos del nihonjinron (niponización), en una nación y sociedad donde conviven la tradición y la modernidad, en la que se incorporan y renuevan los avances de los países occidentales y que fortalece su papel en la arena internacional.This Work focuses on Japanese society. Programa de Conservación del Merino Negro: Caracterización de la aptitud productiva y valoración genética para caracteres de crecimiento

A pesar de que el merino negro como miembro del tronco merino nativo español, ha sufrido la mayoría de los vaivenes del merino blanco, no ha existido paralelismo en la evolución de los censos de ambas poblaciones a lo largo de la historia, principalmente debido al color de su fibra. En la actualidad está considerada una raza en peligro de extinción. Dentro de las actuaciones llevadas a cabo por la Asociación Nacional de Criadores para su conservación in situ, y en el ámbito del proyecto de investigación lNIA (RZ- 2004-00024), se ha realizado el control productivo de 170 corderos hijos de 5 moruecos pertenecientes al Censyra de Extremadura (Badajoz) que fueron sometidos a prueba de descendencia. Se realizaron 4 pesadas por cordero desde el nacimiento hasta el sacrificio (edad media 75 días). La ganancia media diaria osciló en el caso de los machos entre los 0,223 Kg. (ganancia en el primer mes de vida) hasta los 0,265 Kg. (en la última fase del cebo) y los 0,195 Kg. a 0,221 Kg. en los mismos periodos para las hembras. Esto determinó que los pesos medios obtenidos fueron en todos los casos estadísticamente menores a los del merino blanco que se controla dentro del Esquema de Selección de la raza (alrededor de 1 Kg. de media a los 30 días de edad, y 2 kgs. al final del cebo). Esto justifica en parte la situación en la que se encuentra actualmente esta raza. No obstante consideramos que las diferencias detectadas son más bien un reflejo de la diferente historia selectiva de ambas razas en la última década. Finalmente se ha realizado la primera valoración genética de esta raza empleando la metodología BLUP modelo animal para caracteres de crecimiento utilizando para ello los mismos parámetros y modelo que el merino blanco, contando en la actualidad con el valor genético de 898 animales para 4 caracteres de crecimiento (gmd hasta los 30 días y de 30 a los 75 dias, peso a los 3O y 75 días), y la calificación morfológica
