    Impact of Friction Stir Processing Parameters on Forming the Structure and Properties in AISI 420 Steel Surface Layer

    Research has been done into the influence of friction thermomechanical treatment parameters on forming the structure and properties in a surface layer of 20X13 steel. The paper presents a theoretical approach towards controlling the process variables. A hardened layer with a thickness of 1,7 mm was obtained after 20X13 steel had been subjected to the process. The thickness of the layer that had a microhardness of ≥600HV0,05 turned out to be about 0,75mm while the microstructure of the hardened layer was martensitic, martensitic and perlitic with dispersed inclusions of carbides. It was established that the feed has the biggest influence on the thickness of the hardened layer.     Keywords: friction stir processing, rotation speed, tool feed, normal force, microhardness, microstructure

    Effect of adhesion transfer on the surface pattern regularity in nanostructuring burnishing

    In the paper the influence of friction-induced adhesion of metal to the tool on the formation of surface topography under nanostructuring burnishing was studied. A comprehensive approach, including both experimental (optical microscopy and profilometry) and theoretical (computer-aided simulation) methods was used. The results showed a direct connection between values of adhesion strength of materials in contact with the workpiece surface pattern quality caused by the tool movement. Results of the experimental and theoretical study are in good agreement and allow us to identify the reason of regular profile forming during surface burnishing

    The conditions of implementation and parameters of the process of friction surface hardening of chrome.plated steels with a rotating tool are determined. The temperature distribution over the depth of the surface layer is established depending on the value of the heat flow and the times of heating and cooling of the material. The dependences of the exposure time and the carbon diffusion coefficient on the heating temperature of 20 Сr13 steel are given.Определены условия реализации и параметры процесса фрикционной поверхностной закалки хромистых сталей вращающимся инструментом. Установлено распределение температуры по глубине поверхностного слоя в зависимости от величины теплового потока и времен нагрева и охлаждения материала. Приведены зависимости времени выдержки и коэффициента диффузии углерода от температуры нагрева стали 20Х13

    Renormalization of the vacuum angle in quantum mechanics, Berry phase and continuous measurements

    The vacuum angle θ\theta renormalization is studied for a toy model of a quantum particle moving around a ring, threaded by a magnetic flux θ\theta. Different renormalization group (RG) procedures lead to the same generic RG flow diagram, similar to that of the quantum Hall effect. We argue that the renormalized value of the vacuum angle may be observed if the particle's position is measured with finite accuracy or coupled to additional slow variable, which can be viewed as a coordinate of a second (heavy) particle on the ring. In this case the renormalized θ\theta appears as a magnetic flux this heavy particle sees, or the Berry phase, associated with its slow rotation.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure

    The muon capture rate in the reaction mu- 3He -> nu + 3H has been measured at PSI using a modular high pressure ionization chamber. The rate corresponding to statistical hyperfine population of the mu-3He atom is (1496.0 +- 4.0) s^-1.     Bremsstrahlung in the gravitational field of a cosmic string

    In the framework of QED we investigate the bremsstrahlung process for an electron passing by a straight static cosmic string. This process is precluded in empty Minkowski space-time by energy and momentum conservation laws. It happens in the presence of the cosmic string as a consequence of the conical structure of space, in spite of the flatness of the metric. The cross section and emitted electromagnetic energy are computed and analytic expressions are found for different energies of the incoming electron. The energy interval is divided in three parts depending on whether the energy is just above electron rest mass MM, much larger than MM, or exceeds M/δM/\delta, with δ\delta the string mass per unit length in Planck units. We compare our results with those of scalar QED and classical electrodynamics and also with conic pair production process computed earlier.Comment: 21 pages, to appear in Phys. Rev.     Characteristic features of coronary arteries architectonics in case of sudden coronary death: roentgenomorphologic study

    There have been studied autopsy material of 75 persons suffered from ischemic heart disease and died suddenly (1-st group), and also 45 medicolegal au-topsies of the persons died from violent causes (car-accident) (2-nd group). Heart and mediastinum vessels examination was carried out by means of postmortem angioroentgenographical method designed by the authors. It was determined that cardiac blood supply is provided not only by the coronary arteries but also by mediastinum vascular communications, mainly by means of bronchial arteries branches. Most often “extra cardiac blood suppl/’ was revealed in persons with minimal signs of coronary atherosclerosis and myocardial changes. Extra coronary arteries involvement in atherosclerotic process in case of coronary atherosclerosis may result in considerable cardiac activity disorder and even in sudden coronary death.Изучены материалы патологоанатомических вскрытий 75 лиц, страдавших ишемической болезнью сердца и умерших внезапно (1-я группа), а также судебно-медицинских аутопсий 45 погибших от насильственных причин (дорожно-транспортные происшествия) (2-я группа). Исследование сосудов сердца и средостения проводили с помощью разработанной авторами посмертной ангиорентгенографической методики. Установлено, что кровоснабжение сердца осуществляется не только со стороны венечных артерий сердца, но и сосудистых коммуникаций средостения, главным образом, за счет ветвей бронхиальных артерий. Наиболее часто «дополнительное кровоснабжение сердца» выявляли у лиц с минимальными признаками коронарного атеросклероза и изменениями миокарда. Вовлечение дополнительных артерий сердца в атеросклеротический процесс при коронарном атеросклерозе может привести к значительным расстройствам сердечной деятельности вплоть до развития внезапной коронарной смерти
