Biotic factors such as intraspecific competition, stocking density, and parameters of feeding have been compared with respect to their effect on the growth and survival of monosex and mixed populations of the Oriental river prawn Macrobrachium nipponense (De Haan) in warm water aquaculture. The results sug gest that biotic factors—in the present case, social interactions and, to some extent, the efficiency of food assimilation—may be more effective than genetic factors in controlling differences in the size composition of the population

Field Research of Firing Stored Peat Critical Conditions

This paper presents field research: influence of different factors on peat massif firing with local outside heat source. Minimum temperatures of defined size heat source which fires the peat under the wide range of moisture value and heat-exchange conditions with terrestrial environment were found. Besides, peat massif moisture values whereby no firing is undergoing within the range of the researched temperatures of ignition source were defined

Trematode Parthenitae Infection Rate and Distribution of Kola Bay Actic Molluscs of the Genus Littorina

The study was carried out in 2018 in the littoral zone of Kola Bay during the autumn period in the areas of Abram Mys Settlement, Mishukovo Settlement and Retinskaya Bay. Molluscs of the genus Littorina were collected from various substrates: stones, algae, metal construction and soil. In addition, samples were taken not from a particular substrate, but along the borders of the littoral zone to study species composition of molluscs and common level of infection rate in study areas. Our data showed that L. saxatilis infested by mature trematode parthenitae prefer being on the surface of algae, metal structure, stones at low tide instead of hiding under the stones, in the thickness of algae and in other possible shelters. The study of age distribution among infested Littorina molluscs living on different substrates showed that the ratio of age groups is different and varies from 1+ to 13+. Distribution data are established and considered for infested molluscs by trematode parthenitae of the group ”pygmaeus”: Microphallus pygmaeus, M. piriformes, which are characterized by the absence of free-living cercariae. Trematode parthenitae of other species which have a stage of free-living cercaria in their life cycle are absent in molluscs during the autumn period

Technical Study of Judith with the Head of Holofernes from Nizhny Tagil Museum of Fine Arts. New Materials for Attribution

We performed a technological investigation of Judith with the Head of Holofernes (a copy of Cristofano Allori’s work) from the Nizhny Tagil Museum of Fine Arts to clarify the painting’s attribution. According to the current attribution, the copy was created in the 17th century Italy. Pigment analysis using X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy was undertaken in order to provide indicators of the approximate date of the Nizhny Tagil copy. The analysis results – supplemented with evidence from UV-imaging and micro-imaging, radiographic examination and studies of the paintings’ support, ground and paint layers – agree with the existing attribution but do not necessarily confirm it. Comparison of the technical characteristics of the Nizhny Tagil Judith with the techniques of Western and Russian painting allows us to extend the dating. In addition, certain fragments of the painting were examined to provide insight into specifics of differences between the copy and the original, which turned out to be mainly the results of previous restorations. Архитектурный пленэр на Снежной Home Fest

The results of the first architectural plain-air Home Fest held from the 3rd to the 6th of September at the resort “The Warm Lakes on the Snezhnaya” (Slyudyansky District, Irkutsk region) are presented. The Festival was aimed at drawing attention to the nature and the relationship between man and nature. Ефективність плазмаферезу в комплексному лікуванні гострих вірусних гепатитів

Ретроспективно проаналізовано 34 історії хвороби хворих на гострі вірусні гепатити, які знаходились на лікуванні в Сумській обласній клінічній інфекційній лікарні ім. З.Й. Красовицького у 2007-2008 роках. 17 (50 %) хворих отримували сеанси плазмаферезу (основна група), 17 (50 %) хворих приймали традиційну терапію (контрольна група).
