Women's Studies in Poland
Athena: Advanced Thematic Network in Activities in Women's Studies in Europe. Report from ATHENA panel of experts 1.a.:
A Cross-European, Comparative Study of Degrees, Qualifications and Professional Outlets of
Women's/Gender/Feminist Studies.
Panel coordinator: Nina Lykke, University of Southern Denmark, Denmark,
and Linkoeping University, SwedenThis report will briefly address the changes in higher education that occurred
in Poland over the last ten years in terms of university structures and degree
structures, the research policies and equal opportunity policies, and will
subsequently focus on the history of women’s movement after 1989. It will finally
present a case study of the institutionalization of Women’s Studies Center at the
University of Lódz, one of the five major universities in Poland. The specific focus
of this analysis will be a demonstration how conservative approaches to education
in terms of the overall structure of the universities as well as the degree structure
hinder the development of Women’s/Gender Studies in Poland.ATHENA is the Advanced Thematic Network in Activities in Women's Studies in Europe,
funded by EU's Socrates programme, Thematic Networks, 1998-2001
Monte Carlo study of linear chain submonolayer structures.Application to Li/W(112)
The lattice gas model for adsorption of alkaline elements on W(112) surface
is studied by Monte Carlo simulations. The model includes dipole--dipole
interaction as well as long-range indirect interaction. The numerical results
show that truncation of the indirect interaction even at 200 may change a
phase diagram, i.e., new phases containing domain walls might occur. It is
demonstrated that a defected phase can exist at high temperatures even if it is
not stable at T=0. The phase diagram for Li/W(112) is constructed and long
periodic chain structures (9*1), (6*1), (4*1), (3*1), and (2*1) are found to be
stable at low temperatures. Role of thermal fluctuation is discussed by
comparison of Monte Carlo results with mean field approximation results.Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures, REVTe
Strategic Analysis of New Jersey\u27s LSRP Program by Applying a Combined SWOT-AHP Technique
In 2009 the Site Remediation Reform Act (SRRA) was established which created the Licensed Site Remediation Professions (LSRP) program. LSRPs can provide remediation services without delayed approval from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP). The result allows for prompt development of contaminated sites. Ten years after its passage, SRRA 2.0 will soon be introduced. To assist in its strategic development, a modified Strength, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats - Analytical Hierarch Process (SWOT-AHP) will be applied to four stockholder groups to determine each groups\u27 preferences of the current LSRP program. The four groups include government/legal entities, business/trade organizations, non-government organizations, and the LSRPs
The Effects Of Dog Ownership On Self-Efficacy Levels
Multiple studies have been conducted and have concluded that dogs do have a positive impact on both physical and mental health. When it comes to mental health, researchers have found that dog-interaction has decreased stress levels. Stress levels have a negative relationship with self-efficacy levels (Khashbat, 2017). Research that has been conducted has shown both benefits, such as lower stress levels, and drawbacks, such as allergies, to incorporating dogs into places like colleges and the workplace. Can dog ownership create more productive and successful workers and students? The purpose of my research is to see if dog ownership has a positive relationship with self-efficacy and productivity levels. Self-efficacy and productivity are important because a student or employee who has high levels of these characteristics will generally stop at nothing to complete a task. The mediating factor between dog ownership and self-efficacy levels is stress levels. To test my hypothesis, I prepared an online survey that first asks for consent for both the survey and Cohen Stress Scale, and then questions for demographics, dog ownership questions, and self-reported self-efficacy ratings (GPA and determination-level). Then, participants had a choice of whether they would like to participate in an online Cohen Stress Scale, which they filled out and sent back through email. After data collection, I searched for relationship in dog owners’ stress levels and self-efficacy levels. Results showed that dog ownership and self-efficacy levels have a positive relationship, and in dog owners, there is a negative relationship between stress levels and levels of self-efficacy
That Thing Ain\u27t Human: The Artificiality of Human Authorship and the Intelligence in Expanding Copyright Authorship to Fully-Autonomous AI
The U.S. Copyright Review Board (the Board ) decided that works entirely created by fully-autonomous artificial intelligence ( AI ) are not entitled to copyright protections. The Board based its decision on a copyrightability requirement referred to as “human authorship.” However, the Copyright Act of 1976 (the Act ) never mentions a “human” requirement to copyright authorship, nor do most of the Board’s cited authorities. Denying authorship to intellectually-impressive and economically-valuable works under a poorly-established legal subelement is antithetical to copyright law’s history and to Congress’s constitutional mandate to “promote . . . [the] useful [a]rts . . . .” It leaves creators who use AI to create works with no protections for their creations. But this Note argues that, when properly interpreting various copyright-law authorities that allegedly establish a “human authorship” requirement, copyright law does not require “human authorship,” but “intellectual labor.” Under this standard, AI-produced works are entitled to copyright protections
Discourse on National Identity in Moldovan Politics after 2009
Throughout the 20 years of independence, different concepts of a Moldovan nation have competed in public, scientific, and political discourse. A turning point came in 2009, when the ruling Communist Party of Moldova was replaced by a pro-European coalition of self-styled liberal-democratic parties who brought about a significant pluralisation of Moldovan public life. The goal of this article is to analyse the discourse on national identity in Moldovan politics since 2009
Comparing Beijing\u27s and Tokyo\u27s Population Growths
The growth of the human population has led to the formation of largely populated agglomerations known as megacities. Although megacities can be found on multiple continents, Asia’s collection displays how megacities can develop in their own directions. Japan’s megacity of Tokyo, like other Japanese megacities, has adopted a western approach. China’s Beijing, on the other hand, continues to embrace its eastern roots. These megacities may differ in their ideologies, but they share in experiencing similar phenomena. One of these phenomena is population growth
Grit & Ghetto: American Pop Music from the \u2790s to the \u2700s
Since music became easily accessible through technological advances, the industries progression has been largely dictated by the preferences of middle-class, adolescent Caucasians. When bearing this in mind, the prevalence of pop music that was either made or inspired by African American influences, particularly from an urban setting, or that invokes the persona of the white, suburban rejects , like Nirvana, becomes an interesting inquiry. This article charts how both members and pretenders of the seemingly unpopular subgroups of black ghetto city-folk and awkward, friendless scruffy white males has led to some of the most critically-acclaimed and popularly adored genres of music of the nineties and noughties, including grunge, hip-hop, R&B
