Being a Woman School Principal in Turkey

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to examine how women school principals make sense of being a principal. Towards achieving this purpose, phenomenological approach was used. The study group consisted of 10 female school principals selected through maximum variation sampling which is a purposeful sampling method. The data was collected through a semi-structured interview form designed to reveal how participants make sense of being a school principal as woman. The interview form consisted of 21 open-ended questions. Phenomenological data analysis is used to understand how female school principals make sense of becoming a principal. The participants’ statements regarding their experience as female school principals are grouped under four (4) themes. These themes are as follows: (1) choosing to become a teacher, (2) choosing to become a principal, (3) difference in approach of female principals in school management, (4) challenges faced by women in school management in a male-dominated career area

PURPOSEThe clinical management of high-risk lesions using image-guided biopsy is challenging. This study aimed to evaluate the rates at which such lesions were upgraded to malignancy and identify possible predictive factors for upgrading high-risk lesions.METHODSThis retrospective multicenter analysis included 1.343 patients diagnosed with high-risk lesions using an image-guided core needle or vacuum-assisted biopsy (VAB). Only patients managed using an excisional biopsy or with at least one year of documented radiological follow-up were included. For each, the Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) category, number of samples, needle thickness, and lesion size were correlated with malignancy upgrade rates in different histologic subtypes. Pearson’s chi-squared test, the Fisher–Freeman–Halton test, and Fisher’s exact test were used for the statistical analyses.RESULTSThe overall upgrade rate was 20.6%, with the highest rates in the subtypes of intraductal papilloma (IP) with atypia (44.7%; 55/123), followed by atypical ductal hyperplasia (ADH) (38.4%; 144/375), lobular neoplasia (LN) (12.7%; 7/55), papilloma without atypia (9.4%; 58/611), flat epithelial atypia (FEA) (8.7%; 10/114), and radial scars (RSs) (4.6%; 3/65). There was a significant relationship between the upgrade rate and BI-RADS category, number of samples, and lesion size Lesion size was the most predictive factor for an upgrade in all subtypes.CONCLUSIONADH and atypical IP showed considerable upgrade rates to malignancy, requiring surgical excision. The LN, IP without atypia, pure FEA, and RS subtypes showed lower malignancy rates when the BI-RADS category was lower and in smaller lesions that had been adequately sampled using VAB. After being discussed in a multidisciplinary meeting, these cases could be managed with follow-up instead of excision

19th Century Ankara Through Historical Poems

A city is a place whose meaning is found in the poetry created there. In Kevin Lynch’s words, a city presents the imagination with an unlimited potential for “readability”. If we consider this unlimited readability through poetry, it can be said that attempts to find the zeitgeist of a city at a certain time through literary texts must evaluate the poetry, the city and the time. This is because poetry (or literature in general), just like a city, has an important memory which oscillates through ideas of its past and future. In this sense, divan poetry and one particular example of it—historical “manzume” poems—are memories which richly illustrate the ‘continuity’ and ‘change’ within a period. This work, on 19th century Ankara, aims to evaluate the traces reflected in historical manzume poems of the time they were written. Five historical manzume poems in three texts out of seventy 19th century divan collections scanned for this work were found to be about Ankara. Two of these manzumes are by Cazib, one by Ziver Pasha, and one by Mahmud Celaleddin Pasha. The first of these is on Ankara’s dervish lodge; the second on a barracks being built in Ankara; the third on Vecihi Pasha’s governorship of Ankara; the fourth on the the Mayoral Residence. In addition to these, a manzume on the construction of Hamidiye Caddesi by Mahmud Celaleddin Pasha is discovered with in scope of the work. The aim of this work is to provide a contribution to city history through a commentary on elements of 19th century poetry concerning Ankara

TEZ8516Tez (Doktora) -- Çukurova Üniversitesi, Adana, 2011.Kaynakça (s. 121-122) var.v, 123 s. ; 29 cm.Let K be a field of characteristic zero, n,c be the positive integers and Fn, Ln,c be the free Lie algebra of rank n and free nilpotent Lie algebra of class c over K respectively. Denote by Mn,c the free metabelian and nilpotent Lie algebra of class c of rank n . In this thesis we find a generating set of Aut (L2,c) and using this generating set we obtain the relations this group and we give presentation of it, where c L 4 . We find a presentation of Aut (M2,5) and we give a presentation of Aut (M2,c) by the same technique. And finally we find a generating set and defining relations of the automorphism group of Fn by using the generating set and defining relations of Aut (F2).K karakteristiği sıfır olan bir cisim ve n,c de pozitif tamsayılar olmak üzere Fn, K üzerinde rankı n olan serbest Lie cebiri, L n,c, K üzerinde rankı n olan c - inci sınıftan serbest nilpotent Lie cebiri ve Mn,c K üzerinde rankı n olan c -inci sınıftan serbest, metabelyen, nilpotent Lie cebiri olsun.
