Procedimiento para la gestión de competencias

    Get PDF

Evaluation was made of technical and economic conditions at Ciro Redondo Catering and Sales Company (Empresa de Comercio y Gastronomía) in the province of Ciego de Avila, Cuba, for service cooperativization or service leasing, or both. The assessment techniques were team-working, survey to six executives and fifteen employees, interviews, and documentary review. The statistical procedure used was calculation of the standard product sample mean. Accordingly, new ways and methods are recommended to achieve the set goal. Although this study was done in a catering company, the outcome can be adjusted to other businesses with different kinds of services. The ways were classified into dimensions and each was broken down by indicators. The result revealed the existence of nine low-qualification indicators, which were used to make specific recommendations to the company. To conclude, new technical and evaluation parameters for the new business conditions were determined, and improvement ways were suggested based on the most negative items from the evaluation.

Optimal management of an urban road network with an environmental perspective

    Get PDF
Within the framework of numerical simulation and optimal control of partial differential equations, in this work we deal with the mathematical modelling and optimal management of urban road networks. In particular, we are interested in finding the optimal management of the network intersections in order to reduce traffic congestion and atmospheric pollution. So, we consider two different multi-objective control problems (the former from a cooperative viewpoint, the latter within a hierarchical paradigm), propose a complete numerical algorithm to solve them, and, finally, present several numerical tests for a realistic case posed in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area (Mexico), where the possibilities of our methodology are shown.Sistema Nacional de Investigadores | Ref. Exploring the risk of resulting in homicide and suicide in Spanish missing person cases

    Get PDF
The study explores in depth the relationship between missing persons’ psychosocial and criminological characteristics/circumstances and violent-fatal outcomes (suicide and homicide). A relational analytical explicative study of 929 cases and controls was designed using a retrospective and stratified design. Data gathering was conducted through the content analysis of judicial and police information, as well as the development of psychological autopsy techniques and semi-structured interviews with the persons involved in the missing person cases including offenders in prison. Bivariate and multivariate statistical techniques were utilised for analyses. The findings showed that there are different risk and protective factors which can distinguish between good state of health, suicide, and homicide outcomes. This research entails implications for prevention and police risk assessment system

Is it possible to estimate Spanish missing person's forced and fatal outcomes cases using socio-demographic data? Gender, age and nationality

    Get PDF
Although research on missing persons has globally increased during the past few years, most of the studies conducted have focused on the description of socio-demographic and situational factors associated with this phenomenon. The aim of this study is to explore in-depth the relation between missing person’s socio-demographic factors and missing person’s typology and outcomes. A full 1-year sample of police recorded missing persons (n = 24,284) was extracted from the Spanish ‘Missing Persons and Unidentified Human Remains (PDyRH)’ system and a multivariate statistical approach was used. The findings of this research show that, although nationality and gender are mainly important from a descriptive level, age is the socio-demographic variable that better classifies the typology and outcome of missing person cases. These findings suggest that age is a modulating variable of this phenomenon. Thus, there is a need for the conduction of research for each specific age group focused on identifying psychosocial, criminological and geographical risk factors which could explain missing person case outcomes from a multifaceted approach. Considering previous research in the field, the findings of this research are mostly consistent with these previous studies and entail different implications, both at prevention level and in the scope of police investigations

Optimal location of exit doors for efficient evacuation of crowds at gathering places

    Get PDF
This work deals with the optimal design for the location of the exit doors at meeting places (such as sports centers, public squares, street markets, transport stations, etc.) to guarantee a safer emergency evacuation in events of a sporting, social, entertainment or religious type. This problem is stated as an optimal control problem of nonlinear partial differential equations, where the state system is a reformulation of the Hughes model (coupling the eikonal equation for a density-weighted walking velocity of pedestrians and the continuity equation for conservation of the pedestrian density), the control is the location of the exit doors at the domain boundary (subject to several geometric constraints), and the cost function is related to the evacuation rate. We provide a full numerical algorithm for solving the problem (a finite element technique for the discretization and a gradient-free procedure for the optimization), and show several numerical results for a realistic case.Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación | Ref. Survival, dispersal and reproduction of headstarted Mona Island iguanas, Cyclura cornuta stejnegeri

    Get PDF
The endemic Mona Island Iguana, Cyclura cornuta stejnegeri, is considered endangered, and exhibits relatively low population numbers and reduced recruitment of juveniles to adults. A headstarting program was initiated in 1999 to increase the effective population number. Two groups of headstarted iguanas were released in April and August 2002, after reaching a target size. Most of the released iguanas have since been observed to be active and in good health. Two females bred in 2004, the first certain record of reproduction by headstarted Cyclura iguanas in the wild. Eight radiotracked individuals had large dispersal ranges, with mean Minimum Convex Polygon (MCP) of 10.7 ha (range 2.6-22.2 ha) and mean distances covered of 288 m (range 471-6396 m).We discuss the future development of the headstarting program for Mona Island iguanas

Towards a more efficient evacuation of crowds by means of an optimal location of exit doors

    Get PDF
In this work we present a new strategy, employing optimal control techniques of partial differential equations, to automate the optimization of locations for a given number of exit doors at gathering places, so that the evacuation of crowds takes place in a safer and faster way. Once given a detailed mathematical formulation of the problem, in order to solve the constrained optimal control problem numerically, we propose its full discretization, with a space semi-discretization via the finite element method over a family of triangular meshes of the domain under study, and a time semi-discretization via the Euler algorithm. Finally, for the resulting discretized minimization problem, we try its optimization by means of a derivative-free algorithm. Numerical examples, corresponding to different scenarios for a real-world study case posed on “Plaza de la Liberacion” (Guadalajara, Mexico), are presented and discussed to assess the effectiveness of our approach
