    Just-in-time hypermedia

    Get PDF
Many analytical applications, especially legacy systems, create documents and display screens in response to user queries dynamically or in real time . These documents and displays do not exist in advance, and thus hypermedia must be generated \u27just in time -automatically and dynamically. This dissertation details the idea of \u27just-in-time hypermedia and discusses challenges encountered in this research area. A fully detailed literature review about the research issues and related research work is given. A framework for the \u27just-in-time hypermedia compares virtual documents with static documents, as well as dynamic with static hypermedia functionality. Conceptual \u27just-in-time hypermedia architecture is proposed in terms of requirements and logical components. The \u27just-in-time hypermedia engine is described in terms of architecture, functional components, information flow, and implementation details. Then test results are described and evaluated. Lastly, contributions, limitations, and future work are discussed

Towards MKM in the Large: Modular Representation and Scalable Software Architecture

MKM has been defined as the quest for technologies to manage mathematical knowledge. MKM "in the small" is well-studied, so the real problem is to scale up to large, highly interconnected corpora: "MKM in the large". We contend that advances in two areas are needed to reach this goal. We need representation languages that support incremental processing of all primitive MKM operations, and we need software architectures and implementations that implement these operations scalably on large knowledge bases. We present instances of both in this paper: the MMT framework for modular theory-graphs that integrates meta-logical foundations, which forms the base of the next OMDoc version; and TNTBase, a versioned storage system for XML-based document formats. TNTBase becomes an MMT database by instantiating it with special MKM operations for MMT.Comment: To appear in The 9th International Conference on Mathematical Knowledge Management: MKM 201

XML: aplicações e tecnologias associadas: 6th National Conference

This volume contains the papers presented at the Sixth Portuguese XML Conference, called XATA (XML, Aplicações e Tecnologias Associadas), held in Évora, Portugal, 14-15 February, 2008. The conference followed on from a successful series held throughout Portugal in the last years: XATA2003 was held in Braga, XATA2004 was held in Porto, XATA2005 was held in Braga, XATA2006 was held in Portalegre and XATA2007 was held in Lisboa. Dued to research evaluation criteria that are being used to evaluate researchers and research centers national conferences are becoming deserted. Many did not manage to gather enough submissions to proceed in this scenario. XATA made it through. However with a large decrease in the number of submissions. In this edition a special meeting will join the steering committee with some interested attendees to discuss XATA's future: internationalization, conference model, ... We think XATA is important in the national context. It has succeeded in gathering and identifying a comunity that shares the same research interests and has promoted some colaborations. We want to keep "the wheel spinning"... This edition has its program distributed by first day's afternoon and next day's morning. This way we are facilitating travel arrangements and we will have one night to meet

Requirements and services for metadata management

Knowledge-intensive applications pose new challenges to metadata management, including distribution, access control, uniformity of access, and evolution in time. The authors identify general requirements for metadata management and describe a simple model and service that focuses on RDF metadata to address these requirements

V předložené práci studujeme evoluci XML dat, a především důvody a dopady evoluce XML schémat. Práce obsahuje přehled existujících přístupů. Přístup prezentovaný v této práci rozšiřuje konceptuální model XSem o podporu více verzí systému. Díky tomuto rozšíření lze definovat sadu změn mezi dvěma verzemi. Dále práce obsahuje popis algoritmu, který porovnáním dvou verzí schématu vytvoří revalidační skript v jazyce XSL.In the presented work we study the XML data evolution, reasons and consequences of XML schema evolution in particular. The thesis contains a survey of the existing approaches to this problem. The approach presented in this work extends the XSem conceptual model with the support for multiple versions of the model. Thanks to this extension, it is possible to define a set of changes between two versions of a schema. The thesis contains a description of an algorithm that compares two versions of a schema and produces a revalidation script in XSL.Department of Software EngineeringKatedra softwarového inženýrstvíFaculty of Mathematics and PhysicsMatematicko-fyzikální fakult

EXECUTABLE ARCHIVES: Software integrity for data readability and validation of archived studies

The text of this paper is published under a CC-BY license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)This paper presents practices and processes for managing software integrity to support data archiving for long term use in response to the regulatory requirements. Through a case study of a scientific software decommissioning, we revisit the issues of archived data readability. Established software lifecycle management processes are extended with archiving and data integrity requirements for retention of data and revalidation of data analyses. That includes the software transition from operational to archival use within the Executable Archive model that extends the traditional data archive with computing environments with software installations required to reproduce study results from the archived records. The content use requirements are an integral part of both data access and the software management considerations, assuring that data integrity is fully supported by the software integrityPeer reviewe

    Applied Space Systems Engineering

Effective space systems engineering (SSE) is conducted in a fully electronic manner. Competitive hardware, software, and system designs are created in a totally digital environment that enables rapid product design and manufacturing cycles, as well as a multitude of techniques such as modeling, simulation, and lean manufacturing that significantly reduce the lifecycle cost of systems. Because the SSE lifecycle depends on the digital environment, managing the enormous volumes of technical data needed to describe, build, deploy, and operate systems is a critical factor in the success of a project. This chapter presents the key aspects of Technical Data Management (TDM) within the SSE process. It is written from the perspective of the System Engineer tasked with establishing the TDM process and infrastructure for a major project. Additional perspectives are reflected from the point of view of the engineers on the project who work within the digital engineering environment established by the TDM toolset and infrastructure, and from the point of view of the contactors who interface via the TDM infrastructure. Table 17.1 lists the TDM process as it relates to SSE
