Discovery and Selection of Certified Web Services Through Registry-Based Testing and Verification
Reliability and trust are fundamental prerequisites for the establishment of functional relationships among peers in a Collaborative Networked Organisation (CNO), especially in the context of Virtual Enterprises where economic benefits can be directly at stake. This paper presents a novel approach towards effective service discovery and selection that is no longer based on informal, ambiguous and potentially unreliable service descriptions, but on formal specifications that can be used to verify and certify the actual Web service implementations. We propose the use of Stream X-machines (SXMs) as a powerful modelling formalism for constructing the behavioural specification of a Web service, for performing verification through the generation of exhaustive test cases, and for performing validation through animation or model checking during service selection
Model Driven Mutation Applied to Adaptative Systems Testing
Dynamically Adaptive Systems modify their behav- ior and structure in
response to changes in their surrounding environment and according to an
adaptation logic. Critical sys- tems increasingly incorporate dynamic
adaptation capabilities; examples include disaster relief and space exploration
systems. In this paper, we focus on mutation testing of the adaptation logic.
We propose a fault model for adaptation logics that classifies faults into
environmental completeness and adaptation correct- ness. Since there are
several adaptation logic languages relying on the same underlying concepts, the
fault model is expressed independently from specific adaptation languages.
Taking benefit from model-driven engineering technology, we express these
common concepts in a metamodel and define the operational semantics of mutation
operators at this level. Mutation is applied on model elements and model
transformations are used to propagate these changes to a given adaptation
policy in the chosen formalism. Preliminary results on an adaptive web server
highlight the difficulty of killing mutants for adaptive systems, and thus the
difficulty of generating efficient tests.Comment: IEEE International Conference on Software Testing, Verification and

Active architecture for pervasive contextual services
International Workshop on Middleware for Pervasive and Ad-hoc Computing MPAC 2003), ACM/IFIP/USENIX International Middleware Conference (Middleware 2003), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil This work was supported by the FP5 Gloss project IST2000-26070, with partners at Trinity College Dublin and Université Joseph Fourier, and by EPSRC grants GR/M78403/GR/M76225, Supporting Internet Computation in Arbitrary Geographical Locations, and GR/R45154, Bulk Storage of XML Documents.Pervasive services may be defined as services that are available "to any client (anytime, anywhere)". Here we focus on the software and network infrastructure required to support pervasive contextual services operating over a wide area. One of the key requirements is a matching service capable of as-similating and filtering information from various sources and determining matches relevant to those services. We consider some of the challenges in engineering a globally distributed matching service that is scalable, manageable, and able to evolve incrementally as usage patterns, data formats, services, network topologies and deployment technologies change. We outline an approach based on the use of a peer-to-peer architecture to distribute user events and data, and to support the deployment and evolution of the infrastructure itself.Peer reviewe

Context-aware adaptation in DySCAS
DySCAS is a dynamically self-configuring middleware for automotive control systems. The addition of autonomic, context-aware dynamic configuration to automotive control systems brings a potential for a wide range of benefits in terms of robustness, flexibility, upgrading etc. However, the automotive systems represent a particularly challenging domain for the deployment of autonomics concepts, having a combination of real-time performance constraints, severe resource limitations, safety-critical aspects and cost pressures. For these reasons current systems are statically configured. This paper describes the dynamic run-time configuration aspects of DySCAS and focuses on the extent to which context-aware adaptation has been achieved in DySCAS, and the ways in which the various design and implementation challenges are met
Pay as You Go: A Generic Crypto Tolling Architecture
The imminent pervasive adoption of vehicular communication, based on
dedicated short-range technology (ETSI ITS G5 or IEEE WAVE), 5G, or both, will
foster a richer service ecosystem for vehicular applications. The appearance of
new cryptography based solutions envisaging digital identity and currency
exchange are set to stem new approaches for existing and future challenges.
This paper presents a novel tolling architecture that harnesses the
availability of 5G C-V2X connectivity for open road tolling using smartphones,
IOTA as the digital currency and Hyperledger Indy for identity validation. An
experimental feasibility analysis is used to validate the proposed architecture
for secure, private and convenient electronic toll payment
