Indexación: Web of Science; ScieloIn a real world case scenario, customer demands are requested at any time of the day requiring services that are not known in advance such as delivery or repairing equipment. This is called Dynamic Vehicle Routing (DVR) with customer uncertainty environment. The link travel time for the roadway network varies with time as traffic fluctuates adding an additional component to the dynamic environment. This paper presents a model for solving the DVR problem while combining these two dynamic aspects (customer uncertainty and link travel time). The proposed model employs Greedy, Insertion, and Ant Colony Optimization algorithms. The Greedy algorithm is utilized for constructing new routes with existing customers, and the remaining two algorithms are employed for rerouting as new customer demands appear. A real world application is presented to simulate vehicle routing in a dynamic environment for the city of Taipei, Taiwan. The simulation shows that the model can successfully plan vehicle routes to satisfy all customer demands and help managers in the decision making process.

A Capacitated Heterogeneous Vehicle Routing Problem for Catering Service Delivery with Committed Scheduled Time

    Get PDF
The heterogeneous vehicle routing problem (HVRP) is a well-known combinatorial optimization problem which describes a heterogeneous set of vehicles with different capacity, in which each vehicle starts from a central depot and traverses along a route in order to serve a set of customers with known geographical locations. This paper develops a model for the optimal management of service deliveries of meals of a catering company located in Medan City, Indonesia. The HVRP incorporates time windows, deliveries, fleet scheduling in the committed scheduled time planning.. The objective is to minimize the sum of the costs of travelling and elapsed time over the planning horizon. We model the problem as a linear mixed integer program and we propose a feasible neighbourhood direct search approach to solve the problem

Vehicle Routing Approach for Lean Shop-Floor Logistics

    Get PDF
In order to satisfy the material supply needs of large scale shop-floors and production systems, various logistics solutions are applied. In lean manufacturing enterprises, the material supply is pulled by the demands of manufacturing/assembly processes; therefore, a milkrun service is often applied to support the production without glitches. The milkrun logistics planning is a special case for vehicle routing problem (VRP), and requires effective approach to solution in order to satisfy various constraints, and minimize the cost of service. This study gives an overview about lean logistics as well as the most efficient VRP solver algorithms. Furthermore, a novel initial solution with generation heuristics is proposed, which is specially focused on flexible milkrun planning. In order to demonstrate the capabilities of the solution, a software environment is developed as a demonstration that focuses on the main industrial requirements of logistics planning like effective layout definition, quick response of the delivery service and effective order handling

The Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) is one of the most widely studied problems inrncombinatorial optimization. It has long been known to be NP-hard and hence research onrndeveloping algorithms for the TSP has focused on approximate methods in addition to exactrnmethods. Tabu search is one of the most widely applied metaheuristic for solving the TSP. Inrnthis paper, we review the tabu search literature on the TSP, point out trends in it, and bringrnout some interesting research gaps in this literature.

In large-scale shop floors and manufacturing environment, different transportation systems are applied in order to satisfy the material requirements of the systems. The limited capacity of vehicles and time consumption of the logistics processes require effective vehicle routing approaches so as to support production without glitches. The paper gives an overview of the appropriate models and the most efficient solver algorithms of the vehicle routing problem (VRP), introduces a novel approach that uses a novel initial solution generation heuristics, and presents a local search method to solve the VRP. In order to demonstrate the capabilities of the solution proposed, the implemented software concentrates on the main industrial requirements like quick response, effective layout definition and order handling. A specific layout representation scheme is proposed which ensures interoperability between different factory-, and shop-floor planning software products
