    Acting like a Startup - Using Corporate Startup Structures to Manage the Digital Transformation

    Digital transformation is proving to be a significant challenge for firms and companies when it comes to maintaining their market position. It is evident that many companies are struggling to find their particular way through this transformation. A corporate startup structure is one way to find a suitable solution quickly. Therefore, we are presenting a model for corporate startup activities, which we will instantiate in an appropriate tool to support the management of corporate startups by their parent firms. We have derived the first requirements and design principles from a comprehensive problem analysis and literature study. In addition to this,we are presenting a first artifact, which should realize the design principles by implementing a practical tool. Forming a cooperation with an automotive firm has enabled us to gain access to real-world data for the design and evaluation of the artifact

    Application of the Prototype Model in Cooperative Profile Web Application Design

    The development of information technology has triggered everyone in the business world, including cooperatives, to change the service system that was initially conventional to switch to digital. This is because the traditional business approach has several shortcomings in disseminating information on cooperative business profiles to external parties, such as limited access to information, slow dissemination of information, and being time-consuming and costly. For this reason, developing a business profile web application is needed to provide efficient access to information without limitations of space and time. However, there is a problem with how to design an application that fits the needs and meets user expectations. The prototype model can be used as a benchmark for an application, whether it is feasible to implement or not, following the results of the evaluation of user satisfaction. So, in this study, it is proposed to apply a prototype model to design applications that suit the needs and expectations of users. The application's design has been assessed using a questionnaire distributed to 30 respondents. The average result of the feasibility of the prototype design made is 93.05%, with a very feasible category

    FABRICating FORM: generating three-dimensional upholstery amid experiments in process driven design

    As an artist and designer, I created works of art by actively researching, reflecting, experimenting, and producing projects which embodied theories, methods and processes of both practices. Additionally, my work utilized research from numerous disciplines, which include art, craft, furniture, fashion, graphics, mathematics, and architecture. I strived for the user/viewer to experience not only a physical connection with my designs, but to also have an emotional engagement with them. My research aimed to enhance the image of the upholstery trade by examining the design possibilities of the craft. Much of my process extended apparel fabric manipulation techniques to the upholstery and structural systems of furniture in order to reveal the potential of transferring the methods from fashion to furnishings. The techniques informed the design process through the introduction of alternative approaches to upholstery manipulation, sewing, and patterning. The method helped to transform two-dimensional flat upholstered surfaces into three-dimensional upholstered forms. I categorized my early experimental works as one-of-a-kind. However, I explored streamlining my processes of making in order to investigate other methods of construction. Additionally, I researched how fusing furniture design and traditional millinery processes allowed for small batch reproductions of my works. Ultimately, my approach gravitated toward balancing handcrafted techniques with digital methods of fabrication

    Theory-driven Visual Design to Support Reflective Dietary Practice via mHealth: A Design Science Approach

    Design for reflection in human-computer interaction (HCI) has evolved from focusing on an abstract and outcome-driven design subject towards exposing procedural or structural reflection characteristics. Although HCI research has recognized that an individual\u27s reflection is a long-lasting, multi-layered process that can be supported by meaningful design, researchers have made few efforts to derive insights from a theoretical perspective about appropriate translation into end-user visual means. Therefore, we synthesize theoretical knowledge from reflective practice and learning and argue for a differentiation between time contexts of reflection that design needs to address differently. In an interdisciplinary design-science-research project in the mHealth nutrition promotion context, we developed theory-driven guidelines for “reflection-in-action” and “reflection-on-action”. Our final design guidelines emerged from prior demonstrations and a final utility evaluation with mockup artifacts in a laboratory experiment with 64 users. Our iterative design and the resulting design guidelines offer assistance for addressing reflection design by answering reflective practice’s respective contextual requirements. Based on our user study, we show that reflection in terms of “reflection- in-action” benefits from offering actionable choice criteria in an instant timeframe, while “reflection-on-action” profits from the structured classification of behavior-related criteria from a longer, still memorable timeframe

    Will Art Generated by Artificial Intelligence Replace the Role of a Graphic Designer?

    Artificial intelligence (AI) programs are beginning to generate art and design at levels once executed by trained graphic designers. Prior perceived threats have come from automation and the rise of computer-assisted graphic design, particularly Adobe Photoshop. Concerns associated with AI-based image generation programs and tools, such as DALL-E 2, Midjourney, and Stable Diffusion, present far more complex questions and rapidly changing conditions. By comparing three separate design activities, this thesis provides one perspective on the wider problems facing the graphic design field. Specifically, three creative processes for producing graphic design will be examined: (1) the designer working purely on their own, without AI assistance; (2) the designer working in close collaboration with an AI program; and (3) a non-designer who adheres to the AI as much as possible to create their work. Implications for graphic design production are discussed
