Preface to special issue on Inductive Logic Programming, ILP 2017 and 2018
This special issue followed the 27th International Conference on Inductive Logic Programming, held in OrlĂ©ans, France (September 4â6, 2017), and preceded the 28th edition, held in Ferrara, Italy (September 2â4, 2018). For ILP 2018, two different tracks were organized, defining six kinds of submissions:
1. a Journal Track,
2. a Conference Track, allowing five types of submissions (long papers (regular or up-and-coming), short papers, works in progress, papers already published or accepted).
The Journal track welcomed original papers to be published in this special issue, gathering both extended versions of papers submitted at ILP 2017 and new submissions for 2018. In the open call for papers, we solicited submissions on theoretical aspects of ILP, learning in different representations, development of algorithms and systems, and applications of ILP. We received eight submissions, and we selected four of them for inclusion in this special issue. The articles have been peer-reviewed according to the journalâs high standards
Methods for Semantic Interoperability in AutomationML-based Engineering
Industrial engineering is an interdisciplinary activity that involves human experts from various technical backgrounds working with different engineering tools. In the era of digitization, the engineering process generates a vast amount of data. To store and exchange such data, dedicated international standards are developed, including the XML-based data format AutomationML (AML). While AML provides a harmonized syntax among engineering tools, the semantics of engineering data remains highly heterogeneous. More specifically, the AML models of the same domain or entity can vary dramatically among different tools that give rise to the so-called semantic interoperability problem. In practice, manual implementation is often required for the correct data interpretation, which is usually limited in reusability.
Efforts have been made for tackling the semantic interoperability problem. One mainstream research direction has been focused on the semantic lifting of engineering data using Semantic Web technologies. However, current results in this field lack the study of building complex domain knowledge that requires a profound understanding of the domain and sufficient skills in ontology building. This thesis contributes to this research field in two aspects. First, machine learning algorithms are developed for deriving complex ontological concepts from engineering data. The induced concepts encode the relations between primitive ones and bridge the semantic gap between engineering tools. Second, to involve domain experts more tightly into the process of ontology building, this thesis proposes the AML concept model (ACM) for representing ontological concepts in a native AML syntax, i.e., providing an AML-frontend for the formal ontological semantics. ACM supports the bidirectional information flow between the user and the learner, based on which the interactive machine learning framework AMLLEARNER is developed.
Another rapidly growing research field devotes to develop methods and systems for facilitating data access and exchange based on database theories and techniques. In particular, the so-called Query By Example (QBE) allows the user to construct queries using data examples. This thesis adopts the idea of QBE in AML-based engineering by introducing the AML Query Template (AQT). The design of AQT has been focused on a native AML syntax, which allows constructing queries with conventional AML tools. This thesis studies the theoretical foundation of AQT and presents algorithms for the automated generation of query programs. Comprehensive requirement analysis shows that the proposed approach can solve the problem of semantic interoperability in AutomationML-based engineering to a great extent
Efficiency and Sustainability of the Distributed Renewable Hybrid Power Systems Based on the Energy Internet, Blockchain Technology and Smart Contracts-Volume II
The climate changes that are becoming visible today are a challenge for the global research community. In this context, renewable energy sources, fuel cell systems, and other energy generating sources must be optimally combined and connected to the grid system using advanced energy transaction methods. As this reprint presents the latest solutions in the implementation of fuel cell and renewable energy in mobile and stationary applications, such as hybrid and microgrid power systems based on the Energy Internet, Blockchain technology, and smart contracts, we hope that they will be of interest to readers working in the related fields mentioned above

GSI Scientific Report 2009 [GSI Report 2010-1]
Displacement design response spectrum is an essential component for the currently-developing displacement-based seismic design and assessment procedures. This paper proposes a new and simple method for constructing displacement design response spectra on soft soil sites. The method takes into account modifications of the seismic waves by the soil layers, giving due considerations to factors such as the level of bedrock shaking, material non-linearity, seismic impedance contrast at the interface between soil and bedrock, and plasticity of the soil layers. The model is particularly suited to applications in regions with a paucity of recorded strong ground motion data, from which empirical models cannot be reliably developed

Muscle activation patterns in shoulder impingement patients
Introduction: Shoulder impingement is one of the most common presentations of shoulder joint problems 1. It appears to be caused by a reduction in the sub-acromial space as the humerus abducts between 60o -120o â the 'painful arc'. Structures between the humeral head and the acromion are thus pinched causing pain and further pathology 2. Shoulder muscle activity can influence this joint space but it is unclear whether this is a cause or effect in impingement patients. This study aimed to observe muscle activation patterns in normal and impingement shoulder patients and determine if there were any significant differences.
Method: 19 adult subjects were asked to perform shoulder abduction in their symptomatic arm and non-symptomatic. 10 of these subjects (age 47.9 ± 11.2) were screened for shoulder impingement, and 9 subjects (age 38.9 ± 14.3) had no history of shoulder pathology. Surface EMG was used to collect data for 6 shoulder muscles (Upper, middle and lower trapezius, serratus anterior, infraspinatus, middle deltoids) which was then filtered and fully rectified. Subjects performed 3 smooth unilateral abduction movements at a cadence of 16 beats of a metronome set at 60bpm, and the mean of their results was recorded. T-tests were used to indicate any statistical significance in the data sets. Significance was set at P<0.05.
Results: There was a significant difference in muscle activation with serratus anterior in particular showing a very low level of activation throughout the range when compared to normal shoulder activation patterns (<30%). Middle deltoid recruitment was significantly reduced between 60-90o in the impingement group (30:58%).Trends were noted in other muscles with upper trapezius and infraspinatus activating more rapidly and erratically (63:25%; 60:27% respectively), and lower trapezius with less recruitment (13:30%) in the patient group, although these did not quite reach significance.
Conclusion: There appears to be some interesting alterations in muscle recruitment patterns in impingement shoulder patients when compared against their own unaffected shoulders and the control group. In particular changes in scapula control (serratus anterior and trapezius) and lateral rotation (infraspinatus), which have direct influence on the sub-acromial space, should be noted. It is still not clear whether these alterations are causative or reactionary, but this finding gives a clear indication to the importance of addressing muscle reeducation as part of a rehabilitation programme in shoulder impingement patients
