Automatic Web Navigation Problem Detection Based on Client-Side Interaction Data
The current importance of digital competence makes it essential to enable people with disabilities to use digital devices and applications and to automatically adapt site interactions to their needs. Although most of the current adaptable solutions make use of predefined user profiles, automatic detection of user abilities and disabilities is the foundation for building adaptive systems. This work contributes to diminishing the digital divide for people with disabilities by detecting the web navigation problems of users with physical disabilities based on a two-step strategy. The system is based on web user interaction data collected by the RemoTest platform and a complete data mining process applied to the data. First, the device used for interaction is recognized, and then, the problems the user may be having while interacting with the computer are detected. Identification of the device being used and the problems being encountered will allow the most adequate adaptation to be deployed and thus make the navigation more accessible
Reverse Engineering and Testing of Rich Internet Applications
The World Wide Web experiences a continuous and constant evolution, where new initiatives, standards, approaches and technologies are continuously proposed for developing more effective and higher quality Web applications.
To satisfy the growing request of the market for Web applications, new technologies, frameworks, tools and environments that allow to develop Web and mobile applications with the least effort and in very short time have been introduced in the last years.
These new technologies have made possible the dawn of a new generation of Web applications, named Rich Internet Applications (RIAs), that offer greater usability and interactivity than traditional ones. This evolution has been accompanied by some drawbacks that are mostly due to the lack of applying well-known software engineering practices and approaches. As a consequence, new research questions and challenges have emerged in the field of web and mobile applications maintenance and testing.
The research activity described in this thesis has addressed some of these topics with the specific aim of proposing new and effective solutions to the problems of modelling, reverse engineering, comprehending, re-documenting and testing existing RIAs.
Due to the growing relevance of mobile applications in the renewed Web scenarios, the problem of testing mobile applications developed for the Android operating system has been addressed too, in an attempt of exploring and proposing new techniques of testing automation for these type of applications
CHORUS Deliverable 2.2: Second report - identification of multi-disciplinary key issues for gap analysis toward EU multimedia search engines roadmap
After addressing the state-of-the-art during the first year of Chorus and establishing the existing landscape in
multimedia search engines, we have identified and analyzed gaps within European research effort during our second year.
In this period we focused on three directions, notably technological issues, user-centred issues and use-cases and socio-
economic and legal aspects. These were assessed by two central studies: firstly, a concerted vision of functional breakdown
of generic multimedia search engine, and secondly, a representative use-cases descriptions with the related discussion on
requirement for technological challenges. Both studies have been carried out in cooperation and consultation with the
community at large through EC concertation meetings (multimedia search engines cluster), several meetings with our
Think-Tank, presentations in international conferences, and surveys addressed to EU projects coordinators as well as
National initiatives coordinators. Based on the obtained feedback we identified two types of gaps, namely core
technological gaps that involve research challenges, and “enablers”, which are not necessarily technical research
challenges, but have impact on innovation progress. New socio-economic trends are presented as well as emerging legal
challenges
A Brief History of Web Crawlers
Web crawlers visit internet applications, collect data, and learn about new
web pages from visited pages. Web crawlers have a long and interesting history.
Early web crawlers collected statistics about the web. In addition to
collecting statistics about the web and indexing the applications for search
engines, modern crawlers can be used to perform accessibility and vulnerability
checks on the application. Quick expansion of the web, and the complexity added
to web applications have made the process of crawling a very challenging one.
Throughout the history of web crawling many researchers and industrial groups
addressed different issues and challenges that web crawlers face. Different
solutions have been proposed to reduce the time and cost of crawling.
Performing an exhaustive crawl is a challenging question. Additionally
capturing the model of a modern web application and extracting data from it
automatically is another open question. What follows is a brief history of
different technique and algorithms used from the early days of crawling up to
the recent days. We introduce criteria to evaluate the relative performance of
web crawlers. Based on these criteria we plot the evolution of web crawlers and

Research and Development Workstation Environment: the new class of Current Research Information Systems
Against the backdrop of the development of modern technologies in the field
of scientific research the new class of Current Research Information Systems
(CRIS) and related intelligent information technologies has arisen. It was
called - Research and Development Workstation Environment (RDWE) - the
comprehensive problem-oriented information systems for scientific research and
development lifecycle support. The given paper describes design and development
fundamentals of the RDWE class systems. The RDWE class system's generalized
information model is represented in the article as a three-tuple composite web
service that include: a set of atomic web services, each of them can be
designed and developed as a microservice or a desktop application, that allows
them to be used as an independent software separately; a set of functions, the
functional filling-up of the Research and Development Workstation Environment;
a subset of atomic web services that are required to implement function of
composite web service. In accordance with the fundamental information model of
the RDWE class the system for supporting research in the field of ontology
engineering - the automated building of applied ontology in an arbitrary domain
area, scientific and technical creativity - the automated preparation of
application documents for patenting inventions in Ukraine was developed. It was
called - Personal Research Information System. A distinctive feature of such
systems is the possibility of their problematic orientation to various types of
scientific activities by combining on a variety of functional services and
adding new ones within the cloud integrated environment. The main results of
our work are focused on enhancing the effectiveness of the scientist's research

Security Analysis of Web and Embedded Applications
As we put more trust in the computer systems we use the need for securityis increasing. And while security features like HTTPS are becomingcommonplace on the web, securing applications remains dicult. This thesisfocuses on analyzing dierent computer ecosystems to detect vulnerabilitiesand develop countermeasures. This includesweb browsers,web applications,and cyber-physical systems such as Android Automotive.For web browsers, we analyze how new security features might solve aproblem but introduce new ones. We show this by performing a systematicanalysis of the new Content Security Policy (CSP) directive navigate-to.In our research, we nd that it does introduce new vulnerabilities, to whichwe recommend countermeasures. We also create AutoNav, a tool capable ofautomatically suggesting navigation policies for this directive.To improve the security of web applications, we develop a novel blackboxmethod by combining the strengths of dierent black-box methods. Weimplement this in our scanner Black Widow, which we compare with otherleading web application scanners. Black Widow both improves the coverageof the web application and nds more vulnerabilities, including ones inPrestashop, WordPress, and HotCRP.For embedded systems,We analyze the new attack vectors introduced bycombining a phone OS with vehicle APIs and nd new attacks pertaining tosafety, privacy, and availability. Furthermore, we create AutoTame, which isdesigned to analyze third-party apps for vehicles for the vulnerabilities wefound
Slovenian Virtual Gallery on the Internet
The Slovenian Virtual Gallery (SVG) is a World Wide Web based multimedia collection of pictures, text, clickable-maps and video clips presenting Slovenian fine art from the gothic period up to the present days. Part of SVG is a virtual gallery space where pictures hang on the walls while another part is devoted to current exhibitions of selected Slovenian art galleries. The first version of this application was developed in the first half of 1995. It was based on a file system for storing all the data and custom developed software for search, automatic generation of HTML documents, scaling of pictures and remote management of the system. Due to the fast development of Web related tools a new version of SVG was developed in 1997 based on object-oriented relational database server technology. Both implementations are presented and compared in this article with issues related to the transion between the two versions. At the end, we will also discuss some extensions to SVG. We will present the GUI (Graphical User Interface) developed specially for presentation of current exhibitions over the Web which is based on GlobalView panoramic navigation extension to developed Internet Video Server (IVS). And since SVG operates with a lot of image data, we will confront with the problem of Image Content Retrieval
