The role of social effects and perceived risk in driving profitable online customer interactions

    Get PDF
The emergence of online channels has been of special relevance, as it has promoted a more active participation of consumers in the value creation process. In this study, we draw from the Stimulus-Organism-Response model to provide a theoretical understanding of the role played by two critical factors that drive online customer initiated interactions (OnCICs): social effects and perceived risk. In addition, we also investigate their consequences by establishing a direct link between these interactions and customer profitability. Merging longitudinal objective data with subjective data for a sample of 1,990 customers in the financial services and applying Partial Least Squares (PLS), the results reveal that social effects influence perceived risk. Perceived risk consequently promotes the development of OnCICs, while social effects reduce the need for such interactions. In addition, OnCICs help promote high-quality relationships and leads to higher performance

In this article the results of a comprehensive empirical study of 1,200 Polish online stores are presented. It was focused on elements that affect the lead time: information about the availability of goods, about the exact stocks and about the declared delivery time. The significant differences among analysed sectors are noticed. The next part of this article shows the correlation calculations between analysed variables. The calculations were enhanced by the excluding selected sectors and comparing results with entire population. The last part of article presents the problems, which the author met during obtaining data from the online stores websites

The main objective of this study is to determine the factors influence consumers in Oman to switch from in-store to electronic purchasing. Therefore, four constructs (perceived ease of use (PEU), perceived usefulness (PU), facilitating conditions (FC), and social influence (SI)) have been employed in this study which are adopted through the integration between UTUAT and TAM models. The respondent in this study were students from Sultan Qaboos University and Dhofar University, 537 cases have been analysed. Exploratory, confirmatory, and structural equation modelling techniques have been employed in this research using SPSS 25, AMOS 25 software. The study revealed that (PU), (FC), and (SI) have a positive and significant influence on the consumers’ behavioural intention in Oman to switch into electronic purchasing. While, the findings demonstrated that there is no significant effect by (PEU) on the consumers’ behavioural intention to transform from traditional to electronic purchasing. The study provides business and consumers, a good interpretation about the factors influence the transformation to e-purchasing. In addition, this paper encourages companies to shift to interaction e-purchasing portals which help businesses to target different marketplace inside and outside of country to increase sell ratio to sustain their business. However, up to the researchers’ knowledge this study considered to be among the first studies which provide another clearer view of e-purchasing in Oman by incorporating selected factors from two different theories. i.e. incorporating two factors related to the use of technology with other two variables about the required technical resources, and the social effect on individuals to use new technology, thereby being unique and original

Website design as moderating factor of online user behavior

    Get PDF
It is widely assumed that online user behaviour is mainly utilitarian, although hedonic motivations such as enjoyment have also been found by recent research to have a marked influence on such behaviour. The present study explores the influence of website design (utilitarian motivation) on online user behaviour, in the context of a site promoting a tourist destination. The results underline the importance of utilitarian aspects for the effectiveness of online information-processing and the formation of perceived risk online. It is recommended that websites should reflect this type of motivation so as to make browsing useful for the online consumer. The authors appreciate the financial help provided via a research project of group ADEMAR (University of Granada) under the auspices of the Andalusian Program for R&D, number P06-SEJ02170, and Research Program from the Faculty of Education, Economy and Technology of Ceuta

A key factor in the adoption of mobile commerce is the compatibility that the consumer perceives with his/her life. Given that the research on compatibility with mobile purchases made so far treats it as an antecedent of adoption, this pioneer research studies two intrinsic and two extrinsic determinants. The model was tested using PLS with information from 583 Mexican mobile buyers. Our results show a positive effect of innovativeness, involvement and perceived entertainment on compatibility. On the contrary, self-efficacy does not seem to influence the perception of compatibility of mobile commerce with consumer life. This work has important implications for the practice of professionals dedicated to mobile commerce

Near Field Communication (NFC) mobile payment systems allow users to utilize services through smartphones. There is insufficient literature exploring the adoption of NFC with payment scenarios in developing countries. This study aims to explore the influential factors of consumer adoption of NFC, taking payment behaviors through NFC in Indonesia as an example. One hundred forty-seven participants were enrolled in the 5-point Likert scale survey, and 124 valid samples were analyzed with Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results show that trust mediates the effect of context on consumers’ continuous intention to use NFC mobile payment. Additionally, trust mediates the effect of perceived risk on consumers’ continuous intention to use. The perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness have no effects on consumers’ continuous intention to use. The mediating effect of religiosity has not been observed in this study. The findings can enbale service providers and local governments to offer better mobile payment services

Consumers today are using various channels to complete their purchase process. As shoppers pursue different goals at each stage of the process, channel choice may be explained by different drivers for search, purchase and post-sales activities. Our research framework is based on an extension of the TAM Model with the support of the Motivational Model, differentiating two types of motivations for channel usage: intrinsic and extrinsic. Moreover, we rely on transaction costs economics to explain different channel usage at each shopping stages and for different product categories. Lineal regression and cluster analysis are applied to data collected through a survey answered by 1,533 multichannel retail shoppers within two product categories (apparel and consumer electronics) in two countries (UK and Spain). Our findings show that segments with different usage patterns and motivations can be identified across the shopping process and that the drivers of channel usage are different depending on the stage of the buying process and the product category considered

The purpose of this study is to conduct a comprehensive literature review of online purchase intention and present a comparative case between developed and developing economies over a 20-year period to reveal insightful implications for academia and industry. Online purchase intention refers to the intended behavior of an individual to buy a product or service from an online store. Prior research has failed to present a review that compares an individual’s online purchase intention across developed and developing economies in order to disclose the largest and smallest influencing factors, theories, and models in e-commerce. Our sample consists of 97 relevant articles focusing on online purchase intention retrieved from various quality databases, specifically from 53 peer-reviewed and validated journals. This research, in brief, will show different phases of analysis to better understand the current landscape of e-commerce behavioral intention and provide useful insights to researchers and professionals
