The routing problem for tanker-refuellers is considered. Selection of defuzzification method to obtain crisp value for representing uncertain data in a modified sweep algorithm
We present a study of using fuzzy-based parameters for solving public bus routing problem where demand is uncertain. The fuzzy-based parameters are designed to provide data required by the route selection procedure. The uncertain data are represented as linguistic values which are fully dependent on the users preference. This paper focuses on the selection of the Defuzzification method to discover the most appropriate method for obtaining crisp values which represent uncertain data. We also present a step by step evaluation showing that the fuzzy-based parameters are capable to represent uncertain data replacing the use of exact data which common route selection algorithms usually use.Facultad de Informátic
SELECTION OF DEFUZZIFICATION METHOD TO OBTAIN CRISP VALUES FOR REPRESENTING UNCERTAIN DATA IN A MODIFIED SWEEP ALGORITHM
A study of using fuzzy-based parameters for solving public bus routing problem with uncertain demand is presented. The fuzzy-based parameters are designed to provide data required by the route selection procedure. The uncertain data are represented as linguistic values which are fully dependent on the user’s preference. Fuzzy inference rules are assigned to relate the fuzzy parameters to the crisp values which are concerned in the route selection process. This paper focuses on the selection of the Defuzzification method to discover the most appropriate method for obtaining crisp values which represent uncertain data. We also present a step by step evaluation showing that the fuzzy-based parameters are capable to represent uncertain data replacing the use of exact data which common route selection algorithms usually use

A Fuzzy Approach for Vehicle Routing Problem with Simultaneous Pickup and Delivery and Time Windows using Improved PSO (Case Study)
Most studies on decision making issue have supposed the problem in deterministic environment, and because uncertainty makes the decisions taken suboptimal, so in this paper we propose a credibility based fuzzy model for the Vehicle Routing Problem with Simultaneous Delivery and Pickup and Time Windows (VRPSDPTW). The dispatching cost of vehicles and customers’ time windows are supposed to be trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. We also proposed a hybrid meta-heuristic algorithm called Improved Particle Swarm Optimization (IPSO) for solving the problem. The proposed algorithm is the combination of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and some removal and insertion techniques which helps to improve the searching ability and maintain diversity of solutions. Finally, to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed model in the real world we studied the distribution of dairy products among customers by a distribution company in Fars province. The computational results show that distributors can use this method to reduce operating costs of the company

Opportunities and challenges for decision support systems in log truck scheduling and dispatching
The transportation of logs from the forest to the mill accounts for 25-50% of the delivered cost of wood, depending mostly on haul distance. Decision support systems (DSS) for log truck scheduling and dispatching have the potential to reduce transportation costs by optimally constructing routes, also known as schedules for each truck in the fleet. The benefits that are typically achieved from DSS for log truck scheduling and dispatching include increases in capacity through reductions in the total vehicle miles traveled and the number of trucks needed to service all customer loads. Research has shown that the cost reductions expected from implementation could be five percent or more depending on the efficiency of the existing transportation system and the spatial arrangement of log sources and destinations. There have been implementations of DSS for log truck scheduling and dispatching in the United States and elsewhere in the past, but the adoption of these systems has been slow. Most of the research involving DSS for log truck scheduling and dispatching focuses on the development of better solution methods for the log truck scheduling problem (LTSP); however, less attention has been paid to identifying the challenges that are slowing the adoption of DSS. This project aims to identify the unique characteristics of the forest industry related to log transportation and management, evaluate the existing technologies for log truck scheduling and dispatching, assess the availability of DSS for log truck scheduling and dispatching, and determine the challenges and opportunities of implementing DSS for log truck scheduling and dispatching in the Pacific Northwest
