Modeling Delay Propagation and Transmission in Railway Networks
In railway scheduling, the planning of time supplements is crucial to the robustness of the resulting timetable. Time supplements as a means to accommodate for train delays are often distributed according to operation rules and based on experience. A part of the project for strategic schedule optimization at DB Netze aims at improving the supplements distribution through learning of structures of delay propagation and transmission from historical railway operation data. The work at hand focuses on delay transmissions between trains. It employs correlations and correlation network analysis to identify and analyze these knock-on delays and to develop logical precedence orders of trains at certain operation points which can in turn be used in a sequential calculation of single train delay propagation. Furthermore, it endeavors to establish a basis to identify strongly connected groups of trains and stations, thus forming relevant subnets for further analysis
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), also known as drones, have had an exponential evolution in recent times due in large part to the development of technologies that enhance the development of these devices. This has resulted in increasingly affordable and better-equipped artifacts, which implies their application in new fields such as agriculture, transport, monitoring, and aerial photography. However, drones have also been used in terrorist acts, privacy violations, and espionage, in addition to involuntary accidents in high-risk zones such as airports. In response to these events, multiple technologies have been introduced to control and monitor the airspace in order to ensure protection in risk areas. This paper is a review of the state of the art of the techniques, methods, and algorithms used in video, radiofrequency, and audio-based applications to detect UAVs and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). This study can serve as a starting point to develop future drone detection systems with the most convenient technologies that meet certain requirements of optimal scalability, portability, reliability, and availability.
The behaviour of rank correlation coefficients for incomplete data
This paper presents the analysis to disclose the behaviour of rank correlation coefficients under the complete and incomplete data condition. The main concern of this research is to deal with the missing data by preserving the originality of data pair rather than experiencing data deletion or imputation. The paper introduces the variability function that is developed for each correlation coefficient in order to disclose the mean and the variance for every possible data sequences. The comparisons between Kendall, Spearman, and the absolute distance measure for index ranking demonstrate the use of variability function under both the complete and incomplete data, in which it becomes a useful tool to describe the coefficient’s mechanism to proceed with a set of possible data sequences. The analysis proves that Kendall coefficient becomes the better method compared to Spearman and the absolute distant measure due to threefold, i.e. the ability to preserve the zero mean of variability distribution in complete data, the ability to survive from the missing data, and the ability to gain a higher rate of convergence in incomplete condition. Meanwhile, Spearman fails to preserve the original data pair under the incomplete condition due to direct measurement of rank distances
enfoque cuantitativo y diseño no experimental-correlacional.
