Pre-School & Kindergarten Language Art Curriculum Unit
This is a curriculum unit with lessons for language arts for pre-school and kindergarten. There is a lesson plan that meets each of the Ohio Early Learning Reading Comprehension Standards for Pre-School and a lesson that meets of the reading literature standards for Kindergarten from the Common Core Standards. In total, there are seven lesson plans per grade. Each lesson plan incorporates a book as the engagement to help teach the skill the children will need. The pre-school lessons had more of a focus on the author of Laura Numeroff and the kindergarten lessons had more of a focus on the author of Eric Carle. However, there are books from other authors included. Along with the lessons, there is also a reflective essay about the project. It is at the beginning before the lessons
Carrying the Stories of Las Mariposas: Literacy as Collective and Transformative
Literacy is often understood as the acquisition of individual skills and knowledge. In this essay, I explore different approaches to understanding literacy that focus on social meaning-making and action. Drawing on historical examples of literacy learning and my recent experiences in a community-wide reading program focused on Julia Alvarez’s (1994) In the Time of the Butterflies, I use the concept of “carrying stories” to reflect on how literacy learning can be collective and transformative for self and society

An approach to acoustical modeling using digital signal processing : a thesis for HONORS 499
This is a study of the use of digital signal processing (DSP) as a method of modeling room acoustics without having to actually build the structure. The DSP capabilities and programming facilities of the NeXT computer located in the Mathematics Department's computer laboratory (RB 450) is used in conjunction with this thesis. First, the basic ideas and mathematics of digital signal processing are explored. Second, the mathematics and applications of Fourier Analysis and the Fast Fourier Transform in DSP are explored. Thirdly, the mathematical foundations and relationships of basic room acoustics and auditorium acoustics are explored. Finally, a computer program written in the C programming language for the NeXT as an Honors Fellowship project which combines all of these ideas in one package to determine the acoustic manipulation of a sound given the geometry and the materials of a hypothetical room is discussed.Honors CollegeThesis (B.S.
