MixEth: Efficient, Trustless Coin Mixing Service for Ethereum

    Get PDF
Coin mixing is a prevalent privacy-enhancing technology for cryptocurrency users. In this paper, we present MixEth, which is a trustless coin mixing service for Turing-complete blockchains. MixEth does not rely on a trusted setup and is more efficient than any proposed trustless coin tumbler. It requires only 3 on-chain transactions at most per user and 1 off-chain message. It achieves strong notions of anonymity and is able to resist denial-of-service attacks. Furthermore the underlying protocol can also be used to efficiently shuffle ballots, ciphertexts in a trustless and decentralized manner

How round is a protein? Exploring protein structures for globularity using conformal mapping.

    Get PDF
We present a new algorithm that automatically computes a measure of the geometric difference between the surface of a protein and a round sphere. The algorithm takes as input two triangulated genus zero surfaces representing the protein and the round sphere, respectively, and constructs a discrete conformal map f between these surfaces. The conformal map is chosen to minimize a symmetric elastic energy E S (f) that measures the distance of f from an isometry. We illustrate our approach on a set of basic sample problems and then on a dataset of diverse protein structures. We show first that E S (f) is able to quantify the roundness of the Platonic solids and that for these surfaces it replicates well traditional measures of roundness such as the sphericity. We then demonstrate that the symmetric elastic energy E S (f) captures both global and local differences between two surfaces, showing that our method identifies the presence of protruding regions in protein structures and quantifies how these regions make the shape of a protein deviate from globularity. Based on these results, we show that E S (f) serves as a probe of the limits of the application of conformal mapping to parametrize protein shapes. We identify limitations of the method and discuss its extension to achieving automatic registration of protein structures based on their surface geometry

Interacting quantum walk on a graph

We introduce an elementary quantum system consisting of a set of spins on a graph and a particle hopping between its nodes. The quantum state is build sequentially, applying a unitary transformation that couples neighboring spins and, at a node, the local spin with the particle. We observe the relaxation of the system towards a stationary paramagnetic or ferromagnetic state, and demonstrate that it is related to eigenvectors thermalization and random matrix statistics. The relation between these macroscopic properties and interaction generated entanglement is discussed.Comment: 15 pages, 11 figures (v2 extended version

Computing the bounded subcomplex of an unbounded polyhedron

We study efficient combinatorial algorithms to produce the Hasse diagram of the poset of bounded faces of an unbounded polyhedron, given vertex-facet incidences. We also discuss the special case of simple polyhedra and present computational results.Comment: 16 page

Solitons and nonsmooth diffeomorphisms in conformal nets

    Get PDF
We show that any solitonic representation of a conformal (diffeomorphism covariant) net on S^1 has positive energy and construct an uncountable family of mutually inequivalent solitonic representations of any conformal net, using nonsmooth diffeomorphisms. On the loop group nets, we show that these representations induce representations of the subgroup of loops compactly supported in S^1 \ {-1} which do not extend to the whole loop group. In the case of the U(1)-current net, we extend the diffeomorphism covariance to the Sobolev diffeomorphisms D^s(S^1), s > 2, and show that the positive-energy vacuum representations of Diff_+(S^1) with integer central charges extend to D^s(S^1). The solitonic representations constructed above for the U(1)-current net and for Virasoro nets with integral central charge are continuously covariant with respect to the stabilizer subgroup of Diff_+(S^1) of -1 of the circle.Comment: 33 pages, 3 TikZ figure

THE INCLUSIVE DYNAMICS OF ISLAMIC UNIVERSALISM: FROM THE VANTAGE POINT OF SAYYID QUTB\u27S CRITICAL PHILOSOPHY

    Get PDF
This article pursues a topological reading of Milestones, one of the most influential books in the history of Islamism. Written by Muslim thinker Sayyid Qutb, the general interest in this crucial text has largely remained restricted to the fields of Islamic Studies and Security Studies. This article aims to make the case for assuming a philosophical standpoint, relocating its significance beyond the above-mentioned fields. A creative and topological reading of this text will allow the spatial complexity of Qutbs eschatological vision to be fully exposed, while also unpacking the way in which antagonistic relations have variously been articulated by this thinker. The underlying conviction is that such an examination can offer new perspectives from which to examine and develop current debates on political universalism and antagonism in the tradition of continental philosophy

Möbius Geometry and Cyclidic Nets: A Framework for Complex Shape Generation

    Get PDF
International audienceFree-form architecture challenges architects, engineers and builders. The geometrical rationalization of complex structures requires sophisticated tools. To this day, two frameworks are commonly used: NURBS modeling and mesh-based approaches. The authors propose an alternative modeling framework called generalized cyclidic nets that automatically yields optimal geometrical properties for the façade and the structure. This framework uses a base circular mesh and Dupin cyclides, which are natural objects of the geometry of circles in space, also known as Möbius geometry. This paper illustrates how new shapes can be generated from generalized cyclidic nets. Finally, it is demonstrated that this framework gives a simple method to generate curved-creases on free-forms. These findings open new perspectives for structural design of complex shells
