    A telemetry antenna system for unmanned air vehicles

    This paper presents a low VSWR high gain telemetry antenna system manufactured for UAVs that provides 360± coverage in the roll plane of the UAV. Proposed telemetry antenna system includes four telemetry antennas, one power divider that has one input and four output terminals which feeds the telemetry antennas with equal magnitude and phase. Proposed high gain telemetry antennas are based on the feeding of the microstrip patch antenna via aperture coupling. Full coverage in the roll plane of the UAV is obtained by using circular array configuration of telemetry antennas. RF power divider is designed by using couple of Wilkinson power dividers with equal line lengths and impedance sections from input terminal to the all four output terminals

    DSN acquisition of Magellan high-rate telemetry data

    The Magellan Project levied the stringent requirement of a 98 percent high-rate telemetry data capture rate on the Deep Space Network (DSN) during the Magellan Prime Mapping Mission. To meet this requirement, the DSN undertook extensive development of the DSN Telemetry System, as well as extensive DSN operation planning and test and training. In actuality, the DSN substantially exceeded the requirement by achieving a Prime Mapping Mission high-rate telemetry data capture rate of 99.14 percent. This article details the DSN telemetry system development, and DSN operations planning and test and training. In addition, the actual high-rate telemetry data outages are comprehensively presented and analyzed

    An Updated Rounds Checklist to Increase Appropriate Use of Telemetry Monitoring

    Background: Telemetry monitoring is an essential tool to monitor cardiac electrical activity. Its overuse is costly in time and resources and leads to subsequent testing and treatments that are not necessary for the patient and, in addition, healthcare staff is burdened with work that is potentially not clinically useful. Aim: The global aim of increasing efficiency in telemetry use starts with the local improvement to facilitate nurse-physician communication of telemetry patients during Methods: This study with pre and post data collection looked at the results of quantitative data, collected in May-July 2015, on the number of patients with telemetry and the corresponding clinical indication before and after implementation of a modified rounds checklist which included telemetry as a discussion point. The new checklist was initiated on June 22, 2015 and post intervention data was gathered to determine if there was a decrease in the overuse of and increase in the appropriate use of telemetry. Results: With the implementation of the checklist the use of telemetry decreased, however the clinical indication for use did not improve. Conclusion and implications for CNL practice: After the implementation of the checklist criteria there has been a consistent decrease in telemetry use. This may attributable to improve nurse-physician communication, however, there is still a lack of appropriate clinical indication of use and the CNL, as lateral integrator, in future improvement projects, should support further modifications to the clinical indication set to improve appropriateness of telemetry use

    Detection of Fog Network Data Telemetry Using Data Plane Programming

    Fog computing has been introduced to deliver Cloud-based services to the Internet of Things (IoT) devices. It locates geographically closer to IoT devices than Cloud networks and aims at offering latency-critical computation and storage to end-user applications. To leverage Fog computing for computational offloading from end-users, it is important to optimize resources in the Fog nodes dynamically. Provisioning requires knowledge of the current network state, thus, monitoring mechanisms play a significant role to conduct resource management in the network. To keep track of the state of devices, we use P4, a data-plane programming language, to describe data-plane abstraction of Fog network devices and collect telemetry without the intervention of the control plane or adding a big amount of overhead. In this paper, we propose a software-defined architecture with a programmable data plane for data telemetry detection that can be integrated into Fog network resource management. After the implementation of detecting data telemetry based on In-Band Network Telemetry (INT) within a Mininet simulation, we show the available features and preliminary Fog resource management based on the collected data telemetry and future telemetry-based traffic engineering possibilities

    Testing the consistency of wildlife data types before combining them: the case of camera traps and telemetry.

    Wildlife data gathered by different monitoring techniques are often combined to estimate animal density. However, methods to check whether different types of data provide consistent information (i.e., can information from one data type be used to predict responses in the other?) before combining them are lacking. We used generalized linear models and generalized linear mixed-effects models to relate camera trap probabilities for marked animals to independent space use from telemetry relocations using 2 years of data for fishers (Pekania pennanti) as a case study. We evaluated (1) camera trap efficacy by estimating how camera detection probabilities are related to nearby telemetry relocations and (2) whether home range utilization density estimated from telemetry data adequately predicts camera detection probabilities, which would indicate consistency of the two data types. The number of telemetry relocations within 250 and 500 m from camera traps predicted detection probability well. For the same number of relocations, females were more likely to be detected during the first year. During the second year, all fishers were more likely to be detected during the fall/winter season. Models predicting camera detection probability and photo counts solely from telemetry utilization density had the best or nearly best Akaike Information Criterion (AIC), suggesting that telemetry and camera traps provide consistent information on space use. Given the same utilization density, males were more likely to be photo-captured due to larger home ranges and higher movement rates. Although methods that combine data types (spatially explicit capture-recapture) make simple assumptions about home range shapes, it is reasonable to conclude that in our case, camera trap data do reflect space use in a manner consistent with telemetry data. However, differences between the 2 years of data suggest that camera efficacy is not fully consistent across ecological conditions and make the case for integrating other sources of space-use data
