In November 2016, INDOT provided new guidance for construction stormwater pollution plan development. The initiative provides specific guidance for preparing and managing stormwater quality management plans. This session focuses on communication between designers, contractors, and INDOT staff and will address challenges and opportunities related to the educational process, long- and short-term best management practice selection, and proper installation and maintenance of erosion and sediment control BMPs

Academic Staff of Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria and the Problem of Insecurity

The objective of tertiary education in Nigeria can only be realized when the tertiary institutions environment are peaceful, secured and conducive for teaching, learning and implementation of research programme. The recent attacks on tertiary institutions, especially on the academic staff, non-academic staff and students cannot guarantee sustainable development of tertiary education in Nigeria. Therefore, this paper discusses the effects of insecurity on theacademic staff of Nigerian tertiary institutions. The research employed the used of secondary and primary data to provide empirical supports for the various points raised in the paper. The secondary data used for this paper were sourced from both print and online publication. The paper concludes that attacks on academic staff of tertiary institutions have led to the death of academic staff, disruption of teaching programme, research programme, displacement of academic staff and brain-drain. To address these problems of insecurity, the paper recommended that government should identify problems causing insecurity, banditry and insurgency in the country and solve them. Management of the university should provide adequate security in all staff quarters and installation of CCTV at strategic locations should be done. All tertiary staff quarters should be fenced and adequate funds should be provided for the security unit of tertiary institutions and the units should be equipped with modern security technologies etc

Patient safety is the fundamental thing that needs to be taken care of by medical staff when giving healthcare to patient especially in the Emergency Installation. PKU Muhammadiyah Public Hospital at Bantul has implemented Patient safety well in providing services for patients. Expected to be a reference for other hospitals to implement Patient safety as well as efforts to improve the quality of health services, but do not close the possibility there were still some deficiencies that could be made a suggestion for the PKU Muhammadiyah Bantul Hospital. There for researchers interested to review more detail how application of Patient safetyin Emergency Installation PKU Muhammadiyah Bantul Public Hospital in 2014. This research was qualitative observational study, using research subjects: The Head of the medical service, 1 Officer of Emergency Installation, the head of disaster management, 1 medical doctor, 1 nurse, and 4 patients that were taken with inclusion criteria: getting inpatient class III Hospitals in Yogyakarta, have inpatient more than 1 day. All the input items on the application of patient safety which include facilities, equipment, drugs, procedures, and activities of officers at Emergency Installation at PKU Muhammadiyah Bantul Hospital, as well as the application process is in compliance with the Guidelines of Observation Guidelines Patient Safety 2008 Survey and Guidelines for Accreditation of Hospital Emergency Services Specific Guidelines (revised edition 2007), ACT No. 44 Hospital in 2009, and patient safety procedures 2008. Patient perceived output includes five dimensions of quality (Tangible, Reliable, Responsiveness, Assurance and Empathy) all have the same perception of good and satisfying. Application on standard input, process and output is suit with Observation Guidelines for Patient Safety 2008 Survey and Guidelines for Accreditation of Hospital Emergency Services Specific Guidelines (revised edition 2007), ACT No. 44 Hospital in 2009, and patient safety procedures 2008

A sustainable model for ICT capacity building in developing countries

System administrators are often asked to apply their professional expertise in unusual situations, or under tight resource constraints. What happens, though, when the “situation” is a foreign country with only basic technical infrastructure, and the task is to bauild systems which are able to survive and grow in these over-constrained environments? In this paper we report on our experiences in two very different countries – Cuba and Ethiopia – where we ran a number of ICT projects. In those projects we assisted local universities to upgrade their ICT infrastructure and services. This included skills and process building for local system administrators. Based on our experiences we formulate a model for sustainable ICT capacity building. We hope this model will be useful for other organizations doing similar projects

The Use of ITIL for Process Optimisation in the IT Service Centre of Harz University, exemplified in the Release Management Process

    Get PDF
This paper details the use of the IT Infrastructure Library Framework (ITIL) for optimising process workflows in the IT Service Centre of Harz University in Wernigerode, Germany, exemplified by the Release Management Process. It is described, how, during the course of a special ITIL project, the As-Is-Status of the various original processes was documented as part of the process life cycle and then transformed in the To-Be-Status, according to the ITIL Best Practice Framework. It is also shown, how the ITIL framework fits into the four-layered-process model, that could be derived from interviews with the universities IT support staff, and how the various modified processes interconnect with each other to form a value chain. The paper highlights the final results of the project and gives an outlook on the future use of ITIL as a business modelling tool in the IT Service Centre of Harz University. It is currently being considered, whether the process model developed during the project could be used as a reference model for other university IT centres.Comment: 7 pages, 7 figure

Supporting development and management of smart office applications: a DYAMAND case study

    Get PDF
To realize the Internet of Things (IoT) vision, tools are needed to ease the development and deployment of practical applications. Several standard bodies, companies, and ad-hoc consortia are proposing their own solution for inter-device communication. In this context, DYnamic, Adaptive MAnagement of Networks and Devices (DYAMAND) was presented in a previous publication to solve the interoperability issues introduced by the multitude of available technologies. In this paper a DYAMAND case study is presented: in cooperation with a large company, a monitoring application was developed for flexible office spaces in order to reliably reorganize an office environment and give real-time feedback on the usage of meeting rooms. Three wireless sensor technologies were investigated to be used in the pilot. The solution was deployed in a "friendly user" setting at a research institute (iMinds) prior to deployment at the large company's premises. Based on the findings of both installations, requirements for an application platform supporting development and management of smart (office) applications were listed. DYAMAND was used as the basis of the implementation. Although the local management of networked devices as provided by DYAMAND enables easier development of intelligent applications, a number of remote services discussed in this paper are needed to enable reliable and up-to-date support (of new technologies)

Cross-departmental initiative to produce an online Image Library for staff at the National Gallery, London

    Get PDF
The Image Gallery project ran from June 2007 and was launched via a tab in the staff Intranet in April 2008. It was a collaboration between the Photographic Department and the Libraries and Archive Department, but also engaged image users across the Gallery. The aim of the Image Gallery was to provide photographs taken of Gallery activities and events, images from the Photographic Archive, and works of art from other museums and galleries, not the works of art in the National Gallery's collection. This paper discusses project management standards, data standards, creation of a subject index, design of the interface, and user testing
