This paper presents a hysteresis band controller capable of setting a constant value for the steady-state switching frequency of a sliding mode controller in regulation and tracking tasks. The proposed architecture relies on a piecewise linear modeling of the switching function behavior within the hysteresis band, and consists of a discrete-time integral-type controller that modifies the amplitude of the hysteresis band of the comparator in accordance with the error between the desired and the actually measured switching period. For tracking purposes, an additional feedforward action is introduced to compensate the time variation of the switching function derivatives at either sides of the switching hyperplane in the steady state. Stability proofs are provided, and a design criterion for the control parameters to guarantee closed-loop stability is subsequently derived. Numerical simulations and experimental results validate the proposal.Accepted versio

The presence of the LCL filter complicates the design of the control scheme, particularly when system parameters deviations are considered. The proposed control method is addressed to overcome such difficulties and uses a modified converter model in an state observer. In this proposal, the converter model is modified by introducing a virtual damping resistor. Then, a Kalman filter makes use of this model to estimate the system state-space variables. Although the state estimates do not obviously match the real world system variables, they permit designing three current sliding-mode controllers that provide the following features to the closed loop system: a) robust ande active damping capability like in the case of using a physical damping resistor, b) robustness because the control specifications are met independently of variation in the system parameters, c) noise immunity due to the application of the Kalman filter, and d) power loss minimization because the system losses caused by the physical damping resistor are avoided. An interesting side effect of the proposed control scheme is that the sliding surfaces for each controller are independent. This decoupling property for the three controllers allows using a fixed switching frequency algorithm that ensures perfect current control. To complete the control scheme, a theoretical stability analysis is developed. Finally, selected experimental results validate the proposed control strategy and permit illustrating all its appealing features.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

This paper presents the operation of grid tied, two level voltage source inverter (VSI) during network voltage unbalance. The control system was implemented in synchronous rotating reference frame dq0 (SRF). Two types of control structures were investigated herein. First utilizes the Double Decoupled SRF Phase-locked loop (DDSRF-PLL) synchronisation with positive and negative sequence currents control. Second one is simplified system that does not provide symmetrical components decomposition and decoupling for synchronisation. Simulation results exhibited a superior performance of the DDSRF-PLL control system under grid voltage unbalance.Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia pracę dwupoziomowego falownika napięcia współpracującego z siecią, podczas przejściowej asymetrii napięć. System sterowania został zaimplementowany w wirującym układzie synchronicznym dq0. Przeanalizowano dwa typy sterowania. W pierwszym zastosowano metodę synchronizacji z odprzęganiem DDSRF-PLL wraz z możliwością kontroli prądów składowej zgodnej i przeciwnej.

This paper presents a variable structure control in natural frame for a three-phase voltage source inverter. The proposed control method is based on modifying the converter model in natural reference frame, preserving the low frequency state space variables dynamics. Using this model in a Kalman filter, the system state-space variables are estimated allowing to design three robust current sliding-mode controllers in natural frame. The main closed-loop features of the proposed method are: 1) robustness against grid inductance variations because the proposed model is independent of the grid inductance, 2) the power losses are reduced since physical damping resistors are avoided, and 3) the control bandwidth can be increased due to the combination of a variable hysteresis controller with a Kalman filter. To complete the control scheme, a theoretical stability analysis is developed. Finally, selected experimental results validate the proposed control strategy and permit illustrating all its appealing features.Postprint (author's final draft

Two-leg three-phase inverter control for STATCOM and SSSC applications

    Get PDF
Flexible ac transmission systems (FACTS) devices are attracting an increasing interest both in power system academic research and in electric utilities for their capabilities to improve steady-state performance as well as system stability. Several converter topologies for FACTS applications have been proposed in the recent literature, even if those based upon voltage source inverters (VSI) seem to be more attractive due to their intrinsic capability to rapidly respond to network changes such as perturbations subsequent to a fault and their property of being immune to resonance problem. In this paper, a new topology for inverter-based FACTS is proposed. This configuration, employing a two-leg three-phase inverter is employed for both series and parallel-connected reactive power compensators. The converter utilizes a modular topology for allowing a satisfaction of electronic components rating. A control strategy based on variable structure control technique with sliding mode is employed to track appropriate reference quantities. Design and control, as well as good tracking performances, are also verified through numerical simulations

The visual aspects of snack food packaging can influence repeat purchase intention. In today’s busy working lifestyle, snack food may replace one or more of the daily meals. Previous studies reported the inconsistent finding of characteristics of packaging with consumer repeat purchase intent. Thus, this study has been conducted to investigate the relationship between the characteristics of visual and verbal packaging for snacks with consumer repeat purchase intent. The study was conducted at a big supermarket located in the Johore State, Malaysia. The convenient purposive sampling was used to select the consumers who went shopping at the selected supermarket. A total of 217 survey questionnaires were distributed to collect the needed data. Data were analyzed descriptively, the central tendency (skewness), and regression. Overall, the outcome of this research shows the visual features of the snack food packaging is significantly related to consumer repeat purchase intent at p < 0.001. On the other hand, it was found that there is no association between the verbal packaging features with repeat purchase intent. This indicates that visual features are crucial to consumers in their snack food product selection. It is also possible that snacks (junk food) consumers may not be concerned with nutritional value. This could be in the context that such products are of lower involvement, where not much further information is needed. However, recommended that it needs further research in this case. In conclusion, manufacturers can focus on the visual packaging features of snack food product to attract their customers to buy their packed snack food product
