    Analysis of Green Computing Strategy in University: Analytic Network Process (ANP) Approach

    Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis do not provide an analytical means to determine the importance of the identified factors of green computing strategy and implementation. Although the SWOT analysis successfully explores the factors, individual factors are usually described very generally. For this reason, SWOT analysis possesses deficiencies in the measurement and evaluation of green computing steps. Even though the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) technique eliminates these deficiencies, it does not allow for measuring the possible dependencies among the individual factors. The AHP method assumes that the green computing factors presented in the hierarchical structure are independent; however, this assumption may be inappropriate in light of certain situation. Therefore, it is important to utilize a form of SWOT analysis that calculates and takes into account the possible dependency among the factors. This paper demonstrates a process for quantitative SWOT analysis of green computing implementation that can be performed even when there is dependence among strategic factors. The proposed algorithm uses the analytic network process (ANP), which allows measurement of the dependency among the green computing implementation factors, as well as AHP, which is based on the independence between the factors. There are four alternatives: campus awareness program, computer procurement, increase in heat removal requirement, and increase in equipment power density for improving the implementation of green computing in campus. Dependency among the SWOT factors is observed to effect the strategic and sub-factor weights, as well as to change the strategy priorities. Based on ANC method, the best alternative for this implementation is computer procurement

    Importance of decision-making in a purchasing context – DPS case study

    This work project has the objective of exploring the importance of making good decisions on supplier selection, so that the purchasing department can contribute to the success of a company. For that it is presented a short bibliography review of the latest insights that were found relevant, on the subjects of purchasing, technology, outsourcing, supplier selection and decision-making techniques. For a better understating on how to deal with a decision-making situation, a case study is also presented: Digital Printing Solutions (DPS) is a Portuguese company that provides complete and integrated printing solutions and has been planning to contract a software supplier. DPS has no formal supplier-selection model and it has to choose between 2 suppliers. The case study was solved using the M-MACBETH software. I have found that complex decisions-making situations can be easily overcome by using the M-MACBETH decision model. Moreover, the usage of a model, instead of decision that follows no formal procedure, provides the decision maker with insights that can be useful to negotiate with the supplier

    The source of competitive advantage in University spin-offs: a case study

    University Spin-Offs are incorporated to exploit the knowledge and skills achieved within Universities. Often, their competitive advantage is represented by specific know-how that may be hardly imitated by competitors. In this article we present an analysis of the intellectual capital assets owned by a University Spin-Off using a framework recently introduced in literature. The framework resorts to a series of structured interviews to key figures within the organization. The interviews are synthesized through the Analytic Network Process and the results are compared using graphical and cost/ benefit analyses. The implementation of the framework creates a useful panel for the planning of investments in intellectual capital assets in order to create value. Moreover, it may emphasize possible discrepancies among interviewees about the importance of each intellectual capital asset

    Assessment of Knowledge Sharing Determinants in The Nigeria Universities Using Analytic Network Process

    As a core process to knowledge management that aids innovation and regeneration of knowledge, knowledge sharing cannot be overemphasized owing to its importance in gaining competitive edge and sustaining competitive advantage. Therefore, this study examines factors influencing knowledge sharing using multi-criteria model. The research design is quantitative and analytical in nature through a survey of experts (Lecturers) with the usage of pairwise comparison questionnaire. Sample was drawn through multi-stage sampling procedure and 102 copies of questionnaires were retrieved and found fit for analysis. Data collected were modelled into clusters in line with ANP technique. The results show that institutional norms were better group of motivator for knowledge sharing while; individual barriers are more disastrous to knowledge sharing. Moreover, reflections of university mission, academic-industrial research and development excellence and quality teaching service delivery are both equally and moderately influenced by determinants of knowledge sharing. Therefore, based on the findings, academic staff are advised to be unbiased to knowledge sharing acts, while, policymakers are encouraged to demand the need for academic staff progress in career, intellectual benefits and financial rewards, and campaign against cultural differences and high job politics, in order to improve the flow of knowledge among academics for global competitiveness

    Combining Fuzzy MCDM with BSC Approach in Performance Evaluation of Iranian Private Banking Sector

    The objective of this study is to construct an approach based on multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) and balanced scorecard (BSC) for evaluating performance for three nongovernmental Iranian's banks. Following the literature relating to banking performance and BSC concepts, experts and managers select 21 indexes for evaluation. Furthermore, fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) calculated the relative weights of each chosen index in order to tolerate vagueness and ambiguity of information, and three MCDM analytical tools (TOPSIS, VIKOR, and ELECTRE) were adopted to rank the banking performance. The results indicate that a customer “” has the most significant BSC perspectives and the customer satisfaction “1” is the most major index in banking sector. This proposed fuzzy MCDM method combined with BSC approach is a comprehensive and up-to-date model that can be a useful and effective assessment tool

    The contribution of knowledge management for Operational Excellence: the case study of a multinational

    The integration and coordination of the various functions and processes is a great challenge for organizations seeking operational excellence and a key factor is the management of human potential in the sense of how is the flow of information and knowledge that these people generate. However, is observed operational excellence models where the isolation of information and the lack of dissemination of knowledge occurs, leading a waste of human potential. Therefore, the research question is: how knowledge management can contribute to operational excellence? The purpose of this paper is to analyze this contribution by a review of the literature linking these two fields of knowledge and contextualized with the reality of a Brazilian multinational company. The result show that the knowledge management contributes to the operational excellence in the process of knowledge creation and the enabling conditions. The process of knowledge generation relates to the establishment of best practices and ways to transfer this knowledge and enabling conditions relate to strategic information and targets particularly the fluctuation and creative chaos

    The ANP Representation of the BSC

    The development and empirical verification of the balanced scorecard (BSC) model, using the multi-criteria decision-making method (MCDM) called the analytic network process (ANP), are the key issues of the presented research. The research was based on a case study of modelling the BSC for Ydria Motors LL (YM), a manufacturing company. Findings from the empirical analysis showed that the BSC and the ANP are complementary methods. Therefore, it can be asserted that introducing the ANP to implement the BSC and vice versa, improved the decision-making approach and the quality of the obtained results
