This paper studies the elements of the Slavonian dialect in the lyrics of the bećarac. The first part of the paper deals with the study of the Slavonian dialect, its distribution, linguistic features and particularities. It was concluded that the greatest particularity of the Slavonian dialect is its twisted accent, the so-called Croatian acute. The Slavonian dialect is spoken in Slavonia, Baranja and Srijem, and in some areas outside the Croatian borders. The second part of the paper deals with the bećarac. I spoke with Mihael Ferić, the man responsible for listing the bećarac on the UNESCO's List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Bećarac is a tune which was sung with the accompaniment of the tamburica players, strings and violinists, but today, it is mostly accompanied by tamburica bands and orchestras. The biggest feature of the bećarac is its decasyllabic couplet. The final part of the paper analyzes fifty bećarac songs, searching for the elements of the Slavonian dialect and unknown words that were often repeated and related to the Slavonian dialect. Thus, a small dictionary of the bećarac was created

Nikola Mašić i talijansko slikarstvo ottocenta

The subsequent volume revolves around the Social-Fields-Approach (SOFIA) as an approach to conceptualization and operationalisation for the purpose of empirical research. It contributes a new perspective and approach in research on innovation. We believe that SOFIA can have implications for both academic research and practical applications in reshaping the existing instruments and governance arrangements in innovation policy. Whilst applying SOFIA, we urge researchers to leverage the plurality of different qualitative, quantitative and mixed-method approaches in innovation studies, including less conventional methods, such as QCA (Ragin, 2008). Diligent application of SOFIA can also subsequently lead to the development of high-level theoretical contributions

The article contributes to research findings of the “peripheral” higher education systems and ads to the knowledge body on higher education landscape transformation of ex-socialist regions, which are still relatively poorly studied. It explores the teaching-research nexus and its effect on the satisfaction of academics in Croatia and Slovenia based on the data collected through large-scale international comparative survey on Academic profession APIKS. Analysis was done on the academic satisfaction in regards to the academic behaviours (research and teaching time allocation), academic attitudes (teaching or research role orientation) and academic promotion (research and teaching role in faculty promotion and hiring). The paper begins by a short overview of higher education system in the region, reviewing key themes associated with teaching-research nexus and provides an analysis on the above-mentioned variables in regards to academic country, rank, discipline and gender. The findings showed that satisfaction is very dependent on the actual national and institutional internal and external factors of the academic environment, while current policy on promotion affects overall future of academic profession. It concludes with a discussion of the challenges to research teaching nexus in the studied countries. This work has been fully supported by the University of Rijeka under the project number 18-203, Academic community from within: the challenges of changes in the academic profession

The aim of this paper was to examine the self-stigmatizing attitudes of the examinees from the group of mentally ill patients and determine their level of self-esteem and self-efficacy while comparing their results with those of examinees from the control group from the general population. 176 participants were included in this research and divided into two groups. The first group (74 subjects) consisted of patients hospitalized at the Psychiatric Department of the Clinical Hospital Centre Rijeka and the second, control group (102 subjects) was selected from a sample of the general population. The respondents were given a questionnaire that consisted of the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and the General Self-Efficacy Scale, while psychiatric patients were also given the questionnaire for assessing self-stigmatization which was designed for the purpose of this research. The first group (psychiatric patients) has statistically significantly lower levels of self-esteem and self-efficacy than the examinees from the general population. Our results show statistically significant negative correlation between the degree of self-esteem and self-efficacy in relation to perceived self-stigmatization. Those participants with lower levels of self-esteem and self-efficacy have more self-stigmatizing attitudes. These attitudes reflect the stereotypes about people with mental illness present in society and subsequently the acceptance and application of those stereotypes by the psychiatric patients, which are the preconditions for self-stigma. Self-stigmatization has farreaching consequences on the quality of life, life functionality, and the social interaction of affected individuals
