This Article is provided by the Brunel Open Access Publishing Fund - Copyright @ 2012 Hindawi PublishingSome recent advances on the filtering and control problems for nonlinear stochastic complex systems with incomplete information are surveyed. The incomplete information under consideration mainly includes missing measurements, randomly varying sensor delays, signal quantization, sensor saturations, and signal sampling. With such incomplete information, the developments on various filtering and control issues are reviewed in great detail. In particular, the addressed nonlinear stochastic complex systems are so comprehensive that they include conventional nonlinear stochastic systems, different kinds of complex networks, and a large class of sensor networks. The corresponding filtering and control technologies for such nonlinear stochastic complex systems are then discussed. Subsequently, some latest results on the filtering and control problems for the complex systems with incomplete information are given. Finally, conclusions are drawn and several possible future research directions are pointed out. This work was supported in part by the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grant nos. 61134009, 61104125, 61028008, 61174136, 60974030, and 61074129, the Qing Lan Project of Jiangsu Province of China, the Project sponsored by SRF for ROCS of SEM of China, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council EPSRC of the UK under Grant GR/S27658/01, the Royal Society of the UK, and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany
On the validity of memristor modeling in the neural network literature
An analysis of the literature shows that there are two types of
non-memristive models that have been widely used in the modeling of so-called
"memristive" neural networks. Here, we demonstrate that such models have
nothing in common with the concept of memristive elements: they describe either
non-linear resistors or certain bi-state systems, which all are devices without
memory. Therefore, the results presented in a significant number of
publications are at least questionable, if not completely irrelevant to the
actual field of memristive neural networks
Synchronization of stochastic genetic oscillator networks with time delays and Markovian jumping parameters
The official published version of the article can be found at the link below.Genetic oscillator networks (GONs) are inherently coupled complex systems where the nodes indicate the biochemicals and the couplings represent the biochemical interactions. This paper is concerned with the synchronization problem of a general class of stochastic GONs with time delays and Markovian jumping parameters, where the GONs are subject to both the stochastic disturbances and the Markovian parameter switching. The regulatory functions of the addressed GONs are described by the sector-like nonlinear functions. By applying up-to-date ‘delay-fractioning’ approach for achieving delay-dependent conditions, we construct novel matrix functional to derive the synchronization criteria for the GONs that are formulated in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Note that LMIs are easily solvable by the Matlab toolbox. A simulation example is used to demonstrate the synchronization phenomena within biological organisms of a given GON and therefore shows the applicability of the obtained results. This work was supported in part by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) of the UK under Grants BB/C506264/1 and 100/EGM17735, the Royal Society of the UK, the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grant 60804028, the Teaching and Research Fund for Excellent Young Teachers at Southeast University of China, the International Science and Technology Cooperation Project of China under Grant 2009DFA32050, and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany
Mathematical control of complex systems 2013
Mathematical control of complex systems have already become an ideal research area for control engineers, mathematicians, computer scientists, and biologists to understand, manage, analyze, and interpret functional information/dynamical behaviours from real-world complex dynamical systems, such as communication systems, process control, environmental systems, intelligent manufacturing systems, transportation systems, and structural systems. This special issue aims to bring together the latest/innovative knowledge and advances in mathematics for handling complex systems. Topics include, but are not limited to the following: control systems theory (behavioural systems, networked control systems, delay systems, distributed systems, infinite-dimensional systems, and positive systems); networked control (channel capacity constraints, control over communication networks, distributed filtering and control, information theory and control, and sensor networks); and stochastic systems (nonlinear filtering, nonparametric methods, particle filtering, partial identification, stochastic control, stochastic realization, system identification)
Robust Multimode Function Synchronization of Memristive Neural Networks with Parameter Perturbations and Time-Varying Delays
Publisher Copyright: IEEE Copyright: Copyright 2020 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Currently, some works on studying complete synchronization of dynamical systems are usually restricted to its two special cases: 1) power-rate synchronization and 2) exponential synchronization. Therefore, how to give a generalization of these types of complete synchronization by the mathematical expression is an open question that needs to be urgently solved. To begin with, this article proposes multimode function synchronization by the mathematical expression for the first time, which is a generalization of exponential synchronization, power-rate synchronization, logarithmical synchronization, and so on. Moreover, two adaptive controllers are designed to achieve robust multimode function synchronization of memristive neural networks (MNNs) with mismatched parameters and uncertain parameters. Each adaptive controller includes function r(t) and update gain σ. By choosing different types of r(t), multiple types of complete synchronization, including power-rate synchronization and exponential synchronization can be obtained. And update gain σ can be used to adjust the speed of synchronization. Therefore, our results enlarge and strengthen the existing results. Two examples are put forward to verify the validity of our results.Peer reviewedFinal Accepted Versio
Second-Order Consensus of Networked Mechanical Systems With Communication Delays
In this paper, we consider the second-order consensus problem for networked
mechanical systems subjected to nonuniform communication delays, and the
mechanical systems are assumed to interact on a general directed topology. We
propose an adaptive controller plus a distributed velocity observer to realize
the objective of second-order consensus. It is shown that both the positions
and velocities of the mechanical agents synchronize, and furthermore, the
velocities of the mechanical agents converge to the scaled weighted average
value of their initial ones. We further demonstrate that the proposed
second-order consensus scheme can be used to solve the leader-follower
synchronization problem with a constant-velocity leader and under constant
communication delays. Simulation results are provided to illustrate the
performance of the proposed adaptive controllers.Comment: 16 pages, 5 figures, submitted to IEEE Transactions on Automatic

A review on analysis and synthesis of nonlinear stochastic systems with randomly occurring incomplete information
Copyright q 2012 Hongli Dong et al. This is an open access article distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution License, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited. In the context of systems and control, incomplete information refers to a dynamical system in which knowledge about the system states is limited due to the difficulties in modeling complexity in a quantitative way. The well-known types of incomplete information include parameter uncertainties and norm-bounded nonlinearities. Recently, in response to the development of network technologies, the phenomenon of randomly occurring incomplete information has become more and more prevalent. Such a phenomenon typically appears in a networked environment. Examples include, but are not limited to, randomly occurring uncertainties, randomly occurring nonlinearities, randomly occurring saturation, randomly missing measurements and randomly occurring quantization. Randomly occurring incomplete information, if not properly handled, would seriously deteriorate the performance of a control system. In this paper, we aim to survey some recent advances on the analysis and synthesis problems for nonlinear stochastic systems with randomly occurring incomplete information. The developments of the filtering, control and fault detection problems are systematically reviewed. Latest results on analysis and synthesis of nonlinear stochastic systems are discussed in great detail. In addition, various distributed filtering technologies over sensor networks are highlighted. Finally, some concluding remarks are given and some possible future research directions are pointed out. © 2012 Hongli Dong et al.This work was supported in part by the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grants 61273156, 61134009, 61273201, 61021002, and 61004067, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) of the UK under Grant GR/S27658/01, the Royal Society of the UK, the National Science Foundation of the USA under Grant No. HRD-1137732, and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of German
Passivity and synchronization of coupled different dimensional delayed reaction-diffusion neural networks with dirichlet boundary conditions
Two types of coupled different dimensional delayed reaction-diffusion neural network (CDDDRDNN) models without and with parametric uncertainties are analyzed in this paper. On the one hand, passivity and synchronization of the raised network model with certain parameters are studied through exploiting some inequality techniques and Lyapunov stability theory, and some adequate conditions are established. On the other hand, the problems of robust passivity and robust synchronization of CDDDRDNNs with parameter uncertainties are solved. Finally, two numerical examples are given to testify the effectiveness of the derived passivity and synchronization conditions
Analysis and Design of Adaptive Synchronization of a Complex Dynamical Network with Time-Delayed Nodes and Coupling Delays
This paper is devoted to the study of synchronization problems in uncertain dynamical networks with time-delayed nodes and coupling delays. First, a complex dynamical network model with time-delayed nodes and coupling delays is given. Second, for a complex dynamical network with known or unknown but bounded nonlinear couplings, an adaptive controller is designed, which can ensure that the state of a dynamical network asymptotically synchronizes at the individual node state locally or globally in an arbitrary specified network. Then, the Lyapunov-Krasovskii stability theory is employed to estimate the network coupling parameters. The main results provide sufficient conditions for synchronization under local or global circumstances, respectively. Finally, two typical examples are given, using the M-G system as the nodes of the ring dynamical network and second-order nodes in the dynamical network with time-varying communication delays and switching communication topologies, which illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller design methods
