Estimation of Sparse MIMO Channels with Common Support
We consider the problem of estimating sparse communication channels in the
MIMO context. In small to medium bandwidth communications, as in the current
standards for OFDM and CDMA communication systems (with bandwidth up to 20
MHz), such channels are individually sparse and at the same time share a common
support set. Since the underlying physical channels are inherently
continuous-time, we propose a parametric sparse estimation technique based on
finite rate of innovation (FRI) principles. Parametric estimation is especially
relevant to MIMO communications as it allows for a robust estimation and
concise description of the channels. The core of the algorithm is a
generalization of conventional spectral estimation methods to multiple input
signals with common support. We show the application of our technique for
channel estimation in OFDM (uniformly/contiguous DFT pilots) and CDMA downlink
(Walsh-Hadamard coded schemes). In the presence of additive white Gaussian
noise, theoretical lower bounds on the estimation of SCS channel parameters in
Rayleigh fading conditions are derived. Finally, an analytical spatial channel
model is derived, and simulations on this model in the OFDM setting show the
symbol error rate (SER) is reduced by a factor 2 (0 dB of SNR) to 5 (high SNR)
compared to standard non-parametric methods - e.g. lowpass interpolation.Comment: 12 pages / 7 figures. Submitted to IEEE Transactions on Communicatio
BLIND DIGITAL WATERMARKING SYSTEM USING 2D-DCT
In digital network systems the digital documents can be replicated and pass on effortlessly to extensive individuals with ease and free of cost. Multimedia data like image, video and audio files can be easily downloaded by public and they can easily manipulates. The approved proof as a steady and robust watermark should have been embedded in the digital pictures. The proposed work aims at developing a robust digital watermarking system, it incorporates an effective watermarking algorithm which solves the above problem. New blind frequency watermarking algorithm using 2-Dimensional Discrete Cosine Transform and 1-Dimensional Walsh vectors has been proposed
Data compression techniques applied to high resolution high frame rate video technology
An investigation is presented of video data compression applied to microgravity space experiments using High Resolution High Frame Rate Video Technology (HHVT). An extensive survey of methods of video data compression, described in the open literature, was conducted. The survey examines compression methods employing digital computing. The results of the survey are presented. They include a description of each method and assessment of image degradation and video data parameters. An assessment is made of present and near term future technology for implementation of video data compression in high speed imaging system. Results of the assessment are discussed and summarized. The results of a study of a baseline HHVT video system, and approaches for implementation of video data compression, are presented. Case studies of three microgravity experiments are presented and specific compression techniques and implementations are recommended
Time-resolved magnetic sensing with electronic spins in diamond
Quantum probes can measure time-varying fields with high sensitivity and
spatial resolution, enabling the study of biological, material, and physical
phenomena at the nanometer scale. In particular, nitrogen-vacancy centers in
diamond have recently emerged as promising sensors of magnetic and electric
fields. Although coherent control techniques have measured the amplitude of
constant or oscillating fields, these techniques are not suitable for measuring
time-varying fields with unknown dynamics. Here we introduce a coherent
acquisition method to accurately reconstruct the temporal profile of
time-varying fields using Walsh sequences. These decoupling sequences act as
digital filters that efficiently extract spectral coefficients while
suppressing decoherence, thus providing improved sensitivity over existing
strategies. We experimentally reconstruct the magnetic field radiated by a
physical model of a neuron using a single electronic spin in diamond and
discuss practical applications. These results will be useful to implement
time-resolved magnetic sensing with quantum probes at the nanometer scale.Comment: 8+12 page
Low-cost single-pixel 3D imaging by using an LED array
We propose a method to perform color imaging with a single photodiode by using
light structured illumination generated with a low-cost color LED array. The LED array is
used to generate a sequence of color Hadamard patterns which are projected onto the object
by a simple optical system while the photodiode records the light intensity. A field
programmable gate array (FPGA) controls the LED panel allowing us to obtain high refresh
rates up to 10 kHz. The system is extended to 3D imaging by simply adding a low number of
photodiodes at different locations. The 3D shape of the object is obtained by using a noncalibrated
photometric stereo technique. Experimental results are provided for an LED array
with 32 × 32 elements
Redundant Wavelet Watermarking using Spread Spectrum Modulation
Spread Spectrum modulation has become a preferred paradigm in many watermarking applications. This paper analyzes the performance of such a blind watermarking scheme under discrete wavelet frame rather than a traditional orthonormal wavelet expansion. The over complete representation offered by the redundant frame facilitates the identification of significant image features via a simple correlation operation across scales. The performance and resiliency of the proposed technique are analyzed against several volumetric distortion sources. The experimental results of this oblivious algorithm illustrate better visual and statistical imperceptibility and robustness compared to the usually critically sampled discrete wavelet transform. This algorithmic architecture utilizes the existing allocated bandwidth in the data transmission channel in a more efficient manner
