    On delayed genetic regulatory networks with polytopic uncertainties: Robust stability analysis

By choosing to view this document, you agree to all provisions of the copyright laws protecting it.In this paper, we investigate the robust asymptotic stability problem of genetic regulatory networks with time-varying delays and polytopic parameter uncertainties. Both cases of differentiable and nondifferentiable time-delays are considered, and the convex polytopic description is utilized to characterize the genetic network model uncertainties. By using a Lyapunov functional approach and linear matrix inequality (LMI) techniques, the stability criteria for the uncertain delayed genetic networks are established in the form of LMIs, which can be readily verified by using standard numerical software. An important feature of the results reported here is that all the stability conditions are dependent on the upper and lower bounds of the delays, which is made possible by using up-to-date techniques for achieving delay dependence. Another feature of the results lies in that a novel Lyapunov functional dependent on the uncertain parameters is utilized, which renders the results to be potentially less conservative than those obtained via a fixed Lyapunov functional for the entire uncertainty domain.     Variance-constrained multiobjective control and filtering for nonlinear stochastic systems: A survey

    The multiobjective control and filtering problems for nonlinear stochastic systems with variance constraints are surveyed. First, the concepts of nonlinear stochastic systems are recalled along with the introduction of some recent advances. Then, the covariance control theory, which serves as a practical method for multi-objective control design as well as a foundation for linear system theory, is reviewed comprehensively. The multiple design requirements frequently applied in engineering practice for the use of evaluating system performances are introduced, including robustness, reliability, and dissipativity. Several design techniques suitable for the multi-objective variance-constrained control and filtering problems for nonlinear stochastic systems are discussed. In particular, as a special case for the multi-objective design problems, the mixed H 2 / H ∞ control and filtering problems are reviewed in great detail. Subsequently, some latest results on the variance-constrained multi-objective control and filtering problems for the nonlinear stochastic systems are summarized. Finally, conclusions are drawn, and several possible future research directions are pointed out

    A review on analysis and synthesis of nonlinear stochastic systems with randomly occurring incomplete information

The well-known types of incomplete information include parameter uncertainties and norm-bounded nonlinearities. Recently, in response to the development of network technologies, the phenomenon of randomly occurring incomplete information has become more and more prevalent. Such a phenomenon typically appears in a networked environment. Examples include, but are not limited to, randomly occurring uncertainties, randomly occurring nonlinearities, randomly occurring saturation, randomly missing measurements and randomly occurring quantization. Randomly occurring incomplete information, if not properly handled, would seriously deteriorate the performance of a control system. In this paper, we aim to survey some recent advances on the analysis and synthesis problems for nonlinear stochastic systems with randomly occurring incomplete information. The developments of the filtering, control and fault detection problems are systematically reviewed. Latest results on analysis and synthesis of nonlinear stochastic systems are discussed in great detail. In addition, various distributed filtering technologies over sensor networks are highlighted.     Adaptive sliding mode observers in uncertain chaotic cryptosystems with a relaxed matching condition

    We study the performance of adaptive sliding mode observers in chaotic synchronization and communication in the presence of uncertainties. The proposed robust adaptive observer-based synchronization is used for cryptography based on chaotic masking modulation (CM). Uncertainties are intentionally injected into the chaotic dynamical system to achieve higher security and we use robust sliding mode observer design methods for the uncertain nonlinear dynamics. In addition, a relaxed matching condition is introduced to realize the robust observer design. Finally, a Lorenz system is employed as an illustrative example to demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed cryptosyste

    Robust synchronization for 2-D discrete-time coupled dynamical networks

The class of systems under investigation is described by the 2-D nonlinear state space model which is oriented from the well-known Fornasini–Marchesini second model. For such a new 2-D complex network model, both the network dynamics and the couplings evolve in two independent directions. A new synchronization concept is put forward to account for the phenomenon that the propagations of all 2-D dynamical networks are synchronized in two directions with influence from the coupling strength. The purpose of the problem addressed is to first derive sufficient conditions ensuring the global synchronization and then extend the obtained results to more general cases where the system matrices contain either the norm-bounded or the polytopic parameter uncertainties. An energy-like quadratic function is developed, together with the intensive use of the Kronecker product, to establish the easy-to-verify conditions under which the addressed 2-D complex network model achieves global synchronization. The parameter uncertainties enter into the state matrices, and the missing measurements are described by a binary switching sequence satisfying a conditional probability distribution. The purpose of the problem is to design a full-order dynamic feedback controller such that, for all possible missing observations and admissible parameter uncertainties, the closed-loop system is asymptotically mean-square stable and satisfies the prescribed performance constraint. Delay-dependent conditions are derived under which the desired solution exists, and the controller parameters are designed by solving a linear matrix inequality (LMI). A numerical example is provided to illustrate the usefulness of the proposed design method

    Sparse Wide-Area Control of Power Systems using Data-driven Reinforcement Learning

    In this paper we present an online wide-area oscillation damping control (WAC) design for uncertain models of power systems using ideas from reinforcement learning. We assume that the exact small-signal model of the power system at the onset of a contingency is not known to the operator and use the nominal model and online measurements of the generator states and control inputs to rapidly converge to a state-feedback controller that minimizes a given quadratic energy cost. However, unlike conventional linear quadratic regulators (LQR), we intend our controller to be sparse, so its implementation reduces the communication costs. We, therefore, employ the gradient support pursuit (GraSP) optimization algorithm to impose sparsity constraints on the control gain matrix during learning. The sparse controller is thereafter implemented using distributed communication. Using the IEEE 39-bus power system model with 1149 unknown parameters, it is demonstrated that the proposed learning method provides reliable LQR performance while the controller matched to the nominal model becomes unstable for severely uncertain systems.Comment: Submitted to IEEE ACC 2019. 8 pages, 4 figure

    On-line health monitoring of passive electronic components using digitally controlled power converter

    This thesis presents System Identification based On-Line Health Monitoring to analyse the dynamic behaviour of the Switch-Mode Power Converter (SMPC), detect, and diagnose anomalies in passive electronic components. The anomaly detection in this research is determined by examining the change in passive component values due to degradation. Degradation, which is a long-term process, however, is characterised by inserting different component values in the power converter. The novel health-monitoring capability enables accurate detection of passive electronic components despite component variations and uncertainties and is valid for different topologies of the switch-mode power converter. The need for a novel on-line health-monitoring capability is driven by the need to improve unscheduled in-service, logistics, and engineering costs, including the requirement of Integrated Vehicle Health Management (IVHM) for electronic systems and components. The detection and diagnosis of degradations and failures within power converters is of great importance for aircraft electronic manufacturers, such as Thales, where component failures result in equipment downtime and large maintenance costs. The fact that existing techniques, including built-in-self test, use of dedicated sensors, physics-of-failure, and data-driven based health-monitoring, have yet to deliver extensive application in IVHM, provides the motivation for this research ...     This paper considers the stochastic stability and stabilization of discrete-time singular Markovian jump systems with partially unknown transition probabilities. Firstly, a set of necessary and sufficient conditions for the stochastic stability is proposed in terms of LMIs, then a set of sufficient conditions is proposed for the design of a state feedback controller to guarantee that the corresponding closed-loop systems are regular, causal, and stochastically stable by employing the LMI technique. Finally, some examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approaches
