    A review of convex approaches for control, observation and safety of linear parameter varying and Takagi-Sugeno systems

    This paper provides a review about the concept of convex systems based on Takagi-Sugeno, linear parameter varying (LPV) and quasi-LPV modeling. These paradigms are capable of hiding the nonlinearities by means of an equivalent description which uses a set of linear models interpolated by appropriately defined weighing functions. Convex systems have become very popular since they allow applying extended linear techniques based on linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) to complex nonlinear systems. This survey aims at providing the reader with a significant overview of the existing LMI-based techniques for convex systems in the fields of control, observation and safety. Firstly, a detailed review of stability, feedback, tracking and model predictive control (MPC) convex controllers is considered. Secondly, the problem of state estimation is addressed through the design of proportional, proportional-integral, unknown input and descriptor observers.     Design of Hybrid Regrouping PSO-GA based Sub-optimal Networked Control System with Random Packet Losses

The final version is available from Springer Verlag via the DOI in this record.In this paper, a new approach has been presented to design sub-optimal state feedback regulators over Networked Control Systems (NCS) with random packet losses. The optimal regulator gains, producing guaranteed stability are designed with the nominal discrete time model of a plant using Lyapunov technique which produces a few set of Bilinear Matrix Inequalities (BMIs). In order to reduce the computational complexity of the BMIs, a Genetic Algorithm (GA) based approach coupled with the standard interior point methods for LMIs has been adopted. A Regrouping Particle Swarm Optimization (RegPSO) based method is then employed to optimally choose the weighting matrices for the state feedback regulator design that gets passed through the GA based stability checking criteria i.e. the BMIs. This hybrid optimization methodology put forward in this paper not only reduces the computational difficulty of the feasibility checking condition for optimum stabilizing gain selection but also minimizes other time domain performance criteria like expected value of the set-point tracking error with optimum weight selection based LQR design for the nominal system

    Survey of Gain-Scheduling Analysis & Design

    The gain-scheduling approach is perhaps one of the most popular nonlinear control design approaches which has been widely and successfully applied in fields ranging from aerospace to process control. Despite the wide application of gain-scheduling controllers and a diverse academic literature relating to gain-scheduling extending back nearly thirty years, there is a notable lack of a formal review of the literature. Moreover, whilst much of the classical gain-scheduling theory originates from the 1960s, there has recently been a considerable increase in interest in gain-scheduling in the literature with many new results obtained. An extended review of the gainscheduling literature therefore seems both timely and appropriate. The scope of this paper includes the main theoretical results and design procedures relating to continuous gain-scheduling (in the sense of decomposition of nonlinear design into linear sub-problems) control with the aim of providing both a critical overview and a useful entry point into the relevant literature

    Advanced control designs for output tracking of hydrostatic transmissions

    The work addresses simple but efficient model descriptions in a combination with advanced control and estimation approaches to achieve an accurate tracking of the desired trajectories. The proposed control designs are capable of fully exploiting the wide operation range of HSTs within the system configuration limits. A new trajectory planning scheme for the output tracking that uses both the primary and secondary control inputs was developed. Simple models or even purely data-driven models are envisaged and deployed to develop several advanced control approaches for HST systems
