Fuzzy Content Mining for Targeted Advertisement
Content-targeted advertising system is becoming an increasingly important part of the funding source of free web services. Highly efficient content analysis is the pivotal key of such a system. This project aims to establish a content analysis engine involving fuzzy logic that is able to automatically analyze real user-posted Web documents such as blog entries. Based on the analysis result, the system matches and retrieves the most appropriate Web advertisements. The focus and complexity is on how to better estimate and acquire the keywords that represent a given Web document. Fuzzy Web mining concept will be applied to synthetically consider multiple factors of Web content. A Fuzzy Ranking System is established based on certain fuzzy (and some crisp) rules, fuzzy sets, and membership functions to get the best candidate keywords. Once it is has obtained the keywords, the system will retrieve corresponding advertisements from certain providers through Web services as matched advertisements, similarly to retrieving a products list from Amazon.com. In 87% of the cases, the results of this system can match the accuracy of the Google Adwords system. Furthermore, this expandable system will also be a solid base for further research and development on this topic
BlogForever: D2.5 Weblog Spam Filtering Report and Associated Methodology
This report is written as a first attempt to define the BlogForever spam detection strategy. It comprises a survey of weblog spam technology and approaches to their detection. While the report was written to help identify possible approaches to spam detection as a component within the BlogForver software, the discussion has been extended to include observations related to the historical, social and practical value of spam, and proposals of other ways of dealing with spam within the repository without necessarily removing them. It contains a general overview of spam types, ready-made anti-spam APIs available for weblogs, possible methods that have been suggested for preventing the introduction of spam into a blog, and research related to spam focusing on those that appear in the weblog context, concluding in a proposal for a spam detection workflow that might form the basis for the spam detection component of the BlogForever software
Rural poverty in Mexico: assets and livelihood strategies among the Mayas of YucatĂĄn
Understanding poverty and sustainability needs livelihood studies that acknowledge heterogeneity at the community and household level. This is particularly true for Latin America where inequality and ethnicity are important aspects of poverty and sustainability. This paper is a detailed examination of the natural resources, socioeconomic assets and livelihood strategies of two Mayan communities of the Mexican State of YucatĂĄn. There were three fundamental objectives: to elucidate the peopleâs perceptions of poverty, to analyze their resource use and livelihood strategies, and to suggest ways in which access to markets can reduce poverty and enhance sustainable development.
Using qualitative and quantitative methodologies, the dominance of certain successful strategies is made clear. Firstly, milpa â the traditional system of maize production - is a way of life for the Mayas. Secure access to maize-producing land is a valuable asset, partly because it also attracts government subsidies. Secondly, ownership of small livestock is also part of Mayan life. Ownership of other assets such as bee hives gives access to (relatively) lucrative product markets. Thirdly, active agribusiness marketing also requires assets: ownership of transport services; finance to assemble and sell products such as forest fruits, honey and maize; business skills and an ability to create commercial linkages to traders. Appropriate interventions for different wealth groups are suggested to enhance sustainable development of the communities
BlogForever D2.4: Weblog spider prototype and associated methodology
The purpose of this document is to present the evaluation of different solutions for capturing blogs, established methodology and to describe the developed blog spider prototype
Understanding information needs of Australian business organisations
Over the past decade, universities have used repositories as channels
to create access to research outputs. Increasingly government and
universities are seeking to optimise the impact of their research,
particularly to improve public policy. This study looks at the impact
of access to research from the perspective of business associations
and researchers. It finds that business organisations value trusted
timely, relevant research. Accessibility and peer-reviewed research
outputs are highly valued but little used. Barriers to use of the research
include availability (material not openly accessible), discoverability
(ranking on search engines) and knowledge by trusted mediators and
connectivity (presentation as part of a cohort of scholarly knowledge).
Barriers for researchers include lack of rewards and recognition for
research outputs focused on these organisations. The theories used in
the study include triple helix, Kautto-Koivula and Huhtaniemiâs model
for knowledge and competence management and actor network
theory. The study concludes that significant work is required to
improve the accessibility and discoverability of research. In particular,
the search paradigm is insufficient to provide optimal awareness of
and impact of research.Australian Library and Information Associatio
Review of the Learning Alliance for Adaptation in Smallholder Agriculture
The Learning Alliance for Adaptation in Smallholder Agriculture is a knowledge platform which leverages the strengths, opportunities and diverse audiences of the International Fund for Agriculture (IFAD) and the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS). The objective of the Learning Alliance is to produce and disseminate evidence for informed policy and implementation of climate-smart agriculture (CSA) interventions by capturing, analyzing and communicating lessons emerging from the IFAD supported global Adaptation in Smallholder Agriculture Programme (ASAP). The Learning Alliance strives to enable agricultural development policy-makers and practitioners make science-based decisions in the context of climate change. The underlying assumption of the Learning Alliance is that the âprovision of demand-driven research outputs to policy-makers and practitioners is a key mechanism for improving the effectiveness of adaptation actions among ultimate beneficiaries, in this case smallholder farmersâ.
The review aims to identify areas for improvement to achieve the planned outcomes of the Learning Alliance more effectively. It provides recommendations to inform a further phase, based on the experience of those closely involved in the knowledge production and implementation of the Alliance
BlogForever D5.2: Implementation of Case Studies
This document presents the internal and external testing results for the BlogForever case studies. The evaluation of the BlogForever implementation process is tabulated under the most relevant themes and aspects obtained within the testing processes. The case studies provide relevant feedback for the sustainability of the platform in terms of potential usersâ needs and relevant information on the possible long term impact
E-business in Indonesia: It still has a prospect?
This study is aimed to investigate the current state of e-business in Indonesia and to discuss its prospect. An Internet research method is adopted to search and collect various data from online sources and to analyze e-business websites. The framework of investigation covers three parties: Internet users, government supports, and e-business firms. The findings reveal the mixed pictures. The number of Internet users is quite big but the national average penetration is still low. In terms of government supports in providing ICT infrastructure and regulation, Indonesia is still behind of many countries. However, there is a promising progress recently in this industry such as the emerging payment gateway companies to support electronic transactions, the investment of big global e-commerce firms, and the establishment of e-commerce association. Academics could use the finding as a preliminary outlook to more focused research topics. Investors could use it also as a preliminary thought to invest in this industry
