November, 22-25, 2006, Seville, Spain.There seems to be a gap between instructional design, as implemented in workflow-like e-learning sys-tems, and double loop learning, because the former predefines educational processes and the latter as-sumes these processes can be reflected upon and can be modified by the learners. Instructional designs implemented in workflow-like e-learning systems that use modelling standards enable portability of the designs. While maintaining this advantage of portability, the COOPER environment aims to make room for learning reflection and influence as well. We will present a pedagogical scenario called “Virtual Com-pany”, which uses double loop learning extensively, to demonstrate the feasibility of our proposed solu-tion.     Graphical Web Based Tool for Generating Query from Star Schema

    Novice users have difficulty to generate structured query language from the star schemas because they are not familiar with formulating SQL queries and SQL syntax. This study proposed graphical web based tool to generate queries from star schema and represent the data in tabular or graphical forms which help novice user to formulate SQL query. A prototype for a web based tool to generate the query has been developed using Java Server Pages programming language. The developed tool can facilitate complex query construction which is faced by non-technical and/or novice users. The output of SQL query is presented in tabular and graphical forms which can help users especially top management in better understanding and interpreting query results

    A Model-Driven Approach for Crowdsourcing Search

    Even though search systems are very ecient in retrieving world-wide information, they can not capture some peculiar aspects and features of user needs, such as subjective opin- ions and recommendations, or information that require local or domain specic expertise. In this kind of scenario, the hu- man opinion provided by an expert or knowledgeable user can be more useful than any factual information retrieved by a search engine. In this paper we propose a model-driven approach for the specication of crowd-search tasks, i.e. activities where real people { in real time { take part to the generalized search process that involve search engines. In particular we dene two models: the\Query TaskModel", representing the meta- model of the query that is submitted to the crowd and the associated answers; and the \User Interaction Model", which shows how the user can interact with the query model to fulll her needs. Our solution allows for a top-down design approach, from the crowd-search task design, down to the crowd answering system design. Our approach also grants automatic code generation thus leading to quick prototyping of search applications based on human responses collected over social networking or crowdsourcing platforms

    Runtime monitoring of distributed systems

    Distributed and component-based architectures are becoming more prevalent computer systems. The increased complexities introduced by the distribution hampers dependability, emphasising the need for verification techniques tailored for a distributed setting. Runtime verification has proven to be a viable approach for verifying correctness, by focussing on the adherence of the runtime-generated trace to the desired properties. We present a broad taxonomy of current techniques to distributed monitoring, culminating in the proposal of a novel migrating monitor approach. We argue for certain situations where this approach presents clear advantages over current techniques.peer-reviewe

    Using Lightweight Activity Diagrams for Modeling and Generation of Web Information Systems

    The development process of web information systems nowadays improved a lot regarding effectiveness and tool support, but still contains many redundant steps for similar tasks. In order to overcome this, we use a model-driven approach to specify a web information system in an agile way and generate a full- edged and runnable application from a set of models. The covered aspects of the system comprise data structure, page structure including view on data, page- and workflow within the system as well as overall application structure and user rights management. Appropriate tooling allows transforming these models to complete systems and thus gives us opportunity for a lightweight development process based on models. In this paper, we describe how we approach the page- and workflow aspect by using activity diagrams as part of the agile modeling approach MontiWIS. We give an overview of the defined syntax, describe the supported forms of action contents and finally explain how the behavior is realized in the generated application.Comment: 12 pages, 6 figure

    How to Design a Successful Digital Product? An Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) Analysis of Expert Opinions from the Berlin Start-up Scene

    Designing the best digital product is vital for the competitiveness of any organization. Thus, this paper aims to determine the critical success design factors and to create guidelines for start-up founders, product managers, designers and entrepreneurs on how to design a successful digital product. To this end, six key design factors and 24 respective sub-factors were identified based on literature and expert opinions. Further, 21 experts were surveyed regarding their priorities on these factors, using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP). The results suggest that high-level planning design is the most important success factor, while having clear product vision, discovery, strategy and goals, building a great user experience, and creating an aesthetic user interface are the top three priority sub-factors for successful digital products

    Fine-Grained Specification and Control of Data Flows in Web-based User Interfaces

    When building process-intensive web applications, developers typically spend considerable effort on the exchange of specific data entities between specific web pages and operations under specific condi- tions, as called for by business requirements. Since the WWW infrastructure provides only very coarse data exchange mechanisms, we introduce a notation for the design of fine-grained conditional data flows between user interface components. These specifications can be interpreted by a data flow controller that automatically provides the data entities to the specified receivers at run-time, relieving developers of the need to implement user interface data flows manually

    An Object-oriented Workflow Modeling Schema Using Dataflow Analysis for Collaborative E-governance Platform

    In the initial stage of transforming from government to governance for developing countries, collaborative e-governance platforms should be urgently established in different contexts. Though some platforms have been previously applied to various fields, researches on common basic functions analysis and across-organization business process modeling based on a suitable workflow modeling method for the platforms design and development are insufficient. Based on an explorative analysis of platform functions and their patterns, we propose a schema for e-governance platforms modeling according to an extended method of object-oriented workflow modeling using dataflow analysis. It covers a two-step process of top-level platform workflow modeling and function objection workflow modeling. In addition, a citizen appeal processing platform is taken as an example to illustrate the utility of the schema. The schema facilitates the contextualized collaborative e-governance platforms development with an operable method and reusable function workflow models
