Information systems success research: the "Twenty Year Update?" panel report from PACIS, 2011

    Get PDF
This article summarizes a panel held at the 15 Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems (PACIS) in Brisbane, Austrailia, in 2011. The panelists proposed a new research agenda for information systems success research. The DeLone and McLean IS Success Model has been one of the most influential models in Information Systems research. However, the nature of information systems continues to change. Information systems are increasingly implemented across layers of infrastructure and application architecture. The diffusion of information systems into many spheres of life means that information systems success needs to be considered in multiple contexts. Services play a much more prominent role in the economies of countries, making the "service" context of information systems increasingly important. Further, improved understandings of theory and measurement offer new opportunities for novel approaches and new research questions about information systems success

The Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems (PACIS), sponsored by the Association for Information Systems (AIS), is the premier annual information systems conference in the region. It aims to provide a high quality forum for researchers and practitioners to exchange research findings and practices on key issues in information systems and management. PACIS 2010 was held in Taipei, Taiwan in July 2010 and its theme is “Service Science in Information Systems Research.” In response to the transition of the global economy from the manufacturing to service-dominated economy, service science is emerging as a new and exciting paradigm. It represents a melding of information technology with an understanding of business processes and human behaviors for improving service operations, delivery, innovation, and ultimate values to customers. At the emerging stage of service science, it is essential for information systems (IS) researchers and practitioners to help shape what service science is by fusing IS research into inquiries of service science. Meanwhile, the service-centric view of servicescience may open up exciting opportunities and unique challenges to IS research. Hence, PACIS 2010 aims to facilitate the dialogues among IS professionals in academic and industries to exchange insights on issues related to service science in IS research as well as IS research to service science

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE METHODS? - AN EXAMINATION ON THE FREQUENCY OF RESEARCH METHODS FOR IS CONFERENCES FROM 2006 TO 2010

    Get PDF
The objective of this study was to analyze, which research methodologies are currently being used in the field of Information Systems (IS). To analyze research activities from different parts of the world, the proceedings of five conferences ?on Information Systems? were included over a five year period from 2006 to 2010. In addition to the ?International Conference on Information Systems? (ICIS), papers were also taken from the regional Americas (AMCIS), Australasian (ACIS), European (ECIS) and Pacific Asia (PACIS) conferences on information systems. The results of this study indicated that two methods were most popular at conferences by far: ?survey? and ?concept implementation / proof of concept?. Both at conferences and in journals in the IS field, researchers concentrated on only a few research methods, which meant that many other research methods were rarely used. Across all conferences, a trend towards methods orientation could be observed. Only few conference-specific differences in method usage could be found. Across all conferences, researchers noted a slightly increasing trend towards using combinations of methods. Some differences in preferred method combinations could be identified among regional conferences and ICIS. Compared to recent journal-based studies, the favored research methods were quite similar

The Off-Shell Nucleon-Nucleon Amplitude: Why it is Unmeasurable in Nucleon-Nucleon Bremsstrahlung

Nucleon-nucleon bremsstrahlung has long been considered a way of getting information about the off-shell nucleon-nucleon amplitude which would allow one to distinguish among nucleon-nucleon potentials based on their off-shell properties. There have been many calculations and many experiments devoted to this aim. We show here, in contrast to this standard view, that such off-shell amplitudes are not measurable as a matter of principle. This follows formally from the invariance of the S-matrix under transformations of the fields. This result is discussed here and illustrated via two simple models, one applying to spin zero, and one to spin one half, processes. The latter model is very closely related to phenomenological models which have been used to study off-shell effects at electromagnetic vertices.Comment: 6 pages, Latex, uses FBSsuppl.cls - Invited plenary talk at the Asia Pacific Conference on Few Body Problems in Physics, Noda/Kashiwa, Japan, August, 1999 - To be published in Few Body Systems Supp

The 2009 annual conference of the Asia Pacific Bioinformatics Network (APBioNet), Asia's oldest bioinformatics organisation from 1998, was organized as the 8th International Conference on Bioinformatics (InCoB), Sept. 9-11, 2009 at Biopolis, Singapore. InCoB has actively engaged researchers from the area of life sciences, systems biology and clinicians, to facilitate greater synergy between these groups. To encourage bioinformatics students and new researchers, tutorials and student symposium, the Singapore Symposium on Computational Biology (SYMBIO) were organized, along with the Workshop on Education in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (WEBCB) and the Clinical Bioinformatics (CBAS) Symposium. However, to many students and young researchers, pursuing a career in a multi-disciplinary area such as bioinformatics poses a Himalayan challenge. A collection to tips is presented here to provide signposts on the road to a career in bioinformatics. An overview of the application of bioinformatics to traditional and emerging areas, published in this supplement, is also presented to provide possible future avenues of bioinformatics investigation. A case study on the application of e-learning tools in undergraduate bioinformatics curriculum provides information on how to go impart targeted education, to sustain bioinformatics in the Asia-Pacific region. The next InCoB is scheduled to be held in Tokyo, Japan, Sept. 26-28, 2010

The role of social capital in expanding retail platform ecosystems

    Get PDF
In the past few years, the discussion on platform ecosystems has become pervasive in strategy and information system research. Previous studies underlie the transformational nature of digital infrastructure in expanding the ecosystem. In this paper, the authors focus on the retail sector, where online retail platform owners such as Amazon and Alibaba are contending for ecosystem members and expanding by making them more physical. As ecosystem members have traditionally coordinated their network activities and resources embedded in an enabling social context, this study aims to investigate the influence of preexisting social capital possessed by ecosystem members on expansion of retail platform ecosystems. This dimension has received little attention thus far. Based on some conceptual basis discussed by extant literature and some preliminary empirical findings through our case study on Alibaba Lingshoutong (LST), a growing retail platform ecosystem, we have proposed some future research directions. © Proceedings of the 24th Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems: Information Systems (IS) for the Future, PACIS 2020. Priorities for primary health care policy implementation:Recommendations from the combined experience of six countries in the Asia-Pacific

    Get PDF
Primary health care is essential for equitable, cost-effective and sustainable health care. It is the cornerstone to achieving universal health coverage against a backdrop of rising health expenditure and aging populations. Implementing strong primary health care requires grassroots understanding of health system performance. Comparing successes and barriers between countries may help identify mutual challenges and possible solutions. This paper compares and analyses primary health care policy in Australia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. Data were collected at the World Organization of National Colleges, Academies and Academic Associations of General Practitioners/Family Physicians (WONCA) Asia-Pacific regional conference in November 2017 using a predetermined framework. The six countries varied in maturity of their primary health care systems, including the extent to which family doctors contribute to care delivery. Challenges included an insufficient trained and competent workforce, particularly in rural and remote communities, and deficits in coordination within primary health care, as well as between primary and secondary care. Asia-Pacific regional policy needs to: (1) focus on better collaboration between public and private sectors; (2) take a structured approach to information sharing by bridging gaps in technology, health literacy and interprofessional working; (3) build systems that can evaluate and improve quality of care; and (4) promote community-based, high-quality training programs
