Nonlinear Hyperspectral Unmixing With Robust Nonnegative Matrix Factorization
International audienceWe introduce a robust mixing model to describe hyperspectral data resulting from the mixture of several pure spectral signatures. The new model extends the commonly used linear mixing model by introducing an additional term accounting for possible nonlinear effects, that are treated as sparsely distributed additive outliers. With the standard nonnegativity and sum-to-one constraints inherent to spectral unmixing, our model leads to a new form of robust nonnegative matrix factorization with a group-sparse outlier term. The factorization is posed as an optimization problem which is addressed with a block-coordinate descent algorithm involving majorization-minimization updates. Simulation results obtained on synthetic and real data show that the proposed strategy competes with state-of-the-art linear and nonlinear unmixing methods
Conic Optimization Theory: Convexification Techniques and Numerical Algorithms
Optimization is at the core of control theory and appears in several areas of
this field, such as optimal control, distributed control, system
identification, robust control, state estimation, model predictive control and
dynamic programming. The recent advances in various topics of modern
optimization have also been revamping the area of machine learning. Motivated
by the crucial role of optimization theory in the design, analysis, control and
operation of real-world systems, this tutorial paper offers a detailed overview
of some major advances in this area, namely conic optimization and its emerging
applications. First, we discuss the importance of conic optimization in
different areas. Then, we explain seminal results on the design of hierarchies
of convex relaxations for a wide range of nonconvex problems. Finally, we study
different numerical algorithms for large-scale conic optimization problems.Comment: 18 page
A neurodynamic approach for a class of pseudoconvex semivectorial bilevel optimization problem
The article proposes an exact approach to find the global solution of a
nonconvex semivectorial bilevel optimization problem, where the objective
functions at each level are pseudoconvex, and the constraints are quasiconvex.
Due to its non-convexity, this problem is challenging, but it attracts more and
more interest because of its practical applications. The algorithm is developed
based on monotonic optimization combined with a recent neurodynamic approach,
where the solution set of the lower-level problem is inner approximated by
copolyblocks in outcome space. From that, the upper-level problem is solved
using the branch-and-bound method. Finding the bounds is converted to
pseudoconvex programming problems, which are solved using the neurodynamic
method. The algorithm's convergence is proved, and computational experiments
are implemented to demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed approach
A flexible space-variant anisotropic regularisation for image restoration with automated parameter selection
We propose a new space-variant anisotropic regularisation term for
variational image restoration, based on the statistical assumption that the
gradients of the target image distribute locally according to a bivariate
generalised Gaussian distribution. The highly flexible variational structure of
the corresponding regulariser encodes several free parameters which hold the
potential for faithfully modelling the local geometry in the image and
describing local orientation preferences. For an automatic estimation of such
parameters, we design a robust maximum likelihood approach and report results
on its reliability on synthetic data and natural images. For the numerical
solution of the corresponding image restoration model, we use an iterative
algorithm based on the Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM). A
suitable preliminary variable splitting together with a novel result in
multivariate non-convex proximal calculus yield a very efficient minimisation
algorithm. Several numerical results showing significant quality-improvement of
the proposed model with respect to some related state-of-the-art competitors
are reported, in particular in terms of texture and detail preservation
