Wenn das ganze Volk einbezogen wird, so spricht man oft von der Verwirklichung vollkommener Demokratie, denn diese bedeute ja „Volksherrschaft”, aber kommt es nicht vielmehr auf das verantwortliche und rechenschaftspflichtige Verhalten und politische Gestalten der Politiker an? Nicht zuletzt sollte bedacht werden, daß das häufige Anwenden des Instruments Volksabstimmung zu Überdruß und Wahlmüdigkeit führen kann und damit gerade nicht zur Politisierung der Bevölkerung beiträgt, sondern zur politischen Resignation führen kann. Man sollte sich vom Instrument der Volksabstimmung verabschieden in Fragen der Außen- und Sicherheitspolitik und sollte dieses Verfahren nicht durch übermäßigen Gebrauch schwächen. Denn auf lokaler Ebene, in überschaubaren Sachfragen, kann das Referendum nützlich sein

Trade and exchange

If the history of Mediterranean trade during the period c800-1200 is one of decline and reluctant recovery that of Northern Europe is decidedly one of growth. One reason for this is the different points of departure. By c700, Europe’s northern seas had never witnessed a system of exchange on the scale and complexity of that in the Mediterranean during Antiquity. During the following centuries, however, the development of commerce in the North corresponded ever closer to that of the Mediterranean, resulting in a twelfth-century economy no less advanced or extensive than that of Imperial Rome, but within an even wider geographical frame. Intriguingly, and hardly by accident, this process was set in motion at the very moment when the Late Antique economy ceased in the Mediterranean, in the closing decades of the seventh century. Fettsäuren in Demeter-Milch - Differenzierung und Europäischer Vergleich mit konventioneller Milch

Im Rahmen verschiedener Projekte wurden in West-, Mittel- und Nordeuropa Demeter-Milchproben gesammelt und verglichen. Ein zusätzlicher Vergleich zwischen 2x10 gepaarten Molkereimischproben von Demeter-Milch und konventioneller Milch erfolgte. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass sich die Milchfettqualität der Demeter-Milch stark im Sommer- und Winterhalbjahr unterscheidet und stärker auf Weidehaltung basiert als konventionelle Milch. Norden, reframed

This paper calls for Norden to be understood as a metaframe. Related formulations like “Nordic art” or “Nordic welfare” function as mesoframes. These trigger multiple framing devices. A cache of related framing devices constitutes a framing archive. Framing devices work best when operating unobtrusively such that inclusions, exclusions and inconsistencies are condoned or naturalised. Their artifice, however, becomes apparent whenever a frame is questioned. Questioning or criticising a frame gives rise to a framing dispute. The theoretical justification for these typologies is provided at the outset. This schema is then applied to a select range of empirical examples drawn largely from the disciplinary frames (Ernst 1996) of art history and museum studies. Despite this specificity it is envisaged that the general principles set out below can and will be used to address a variety of devices, disputes and archives in Norden and beyond
