    A noise and vibration analysis on positive displacement pumps for fluid power application to reduce flow pulsation and cavitation phenomena

    The Fluid Power area handles a profound change to achieve the highest efficiency levels requested by the market to compete with other technologies of different fields, like Hybrid-Electric configuration. The noise emission increases its importance in the fluid power field since the other technologies cannot have the same power density, flexibility, and reliability as the Hydraulic. For this reason, hydraulic components, especially positive displacement pumps and motors, are pushing to conform to the dB limits defined by European regulations for working environments (ref. SNSI, Horizon 2020, and Direttiva Macchine 2006/42/CE), both in mobile and indoor applications. The purpose of this research activity is aimed at the optimization of pump geometries using numerical and experimental techniques

    Urban Runoff Control and Sponge City Construction

    The rapid urbanization, sometimes lacking adequate planning and design, has led to worsening city syndrome situations, such as urban flooding, water pollution, heat island effects, and ecologic deterioration. Sponge city construction have become the new paradigm for a sustainable urban stormwater management strategy. Deviating from the traditional rapid draining approach, the new paradigm calls for the use of natural systems, such as soil and vegetation, as part of the urban runoff control strategy. It has become a widespread focus in urban water management research and practices globally. In this Special Issue reprint, there are 13 original scientific articles that address the different related urban runoff control issues. We are happy to see that all papers presented findings characterized as innovative and methodologically new. We hope that the readers can enjoy and learn deeply about urban runoff control and sponge city construction using the published material, and we hope that sharing of the researches results with the scientific community, policymakers and stakeholders can prompt the urban runoff control and sponge city construction globally

    On the low speed longitudinal stability of hypersonic waveriders

    The development of hypersonic civilian transport aircraft requires solutions to a number of challenging problems in the areas of aerothermodynamics, control, aeroelasticity, propulsion and others encountered at high Mach number flight. The desire for good aerodynamic performance at high Mach numbers results in slender vehicle designs called waveriders. The stability and handling of waverider shapes at the low speeds at the take-off and landing phases of flight is not well studied. This thesis covers static and dynamic CFD simulations of the Hexafly-Int glider which have been used to obtain longitudinal stability derivatives at low speeds. Complementary static and free-to-pitch dynamic wind tunnel testing, are used to validate the CFD computations. A final chapter on the optimisation of waverider designs including low speed longitudinal stability is presented to show the impacts of this additional requirement on the hypersonic design space. The static wind tunnel testing has identified stability issues relating to the location of the centre of gravity. The design centre of gravity which is suitable for the Hexafly-Int vehicle at Mach 7.2 is found to be too far aft which results in instability at low speeds. In addition, the dynamic testing in the wind tunnel shows that the pitch damping is inadequate at low speeds. The CFD simulations agree well with the wind tunnel test results validating the use of CFD tools for determining dynamic stability derivatives of this class of slender vehicle in the design process. To alleviate the low speed stability issue of hypersonic vehicles, a waverider shape optimisation study has been carried out to understand what shapes will produce better low speed stability behaviour. These shapes are found to produce lower aerodynamic efficiency at high speeds which suggests that a design compromise between low speed stability and high speed performance is required at the outset of hypersonic waverider design

Our model is based on human-centric design factors and cross disciplinary collaborations for scalable data-driven enablement of smartphone, cellular, and video Teleconsul-tation technologies to link hospitals, clinics, and emergency medical services for point-of-care assessments of COVID testing, and for subsequent treatment and quar-antine decisions. A multidisciplinary team was rapidly created, in cooperation with different institutions, including: the Autonomous University of Baja California, the Ministry of Health, the Command, Communication and Computer Control Center of the Ministry of the State of Baja California (C4), Colleges of Medicine, and the College of Psychologists. Our objective is to provide information to the public and to evaluate COVID-19 in real time and to track, regional, municipal, and state-wide data in real time that informs supply chains and resource allocation with the anticipation of a surge in COVID-19 cases. RESUMEN Proporcionamos un modelo para la implementación sistemática de la telemedicina dentro de un gran centro de evaluación de COVID-19 en el área de Baja California, México. Nuestro modelo se basa en factores de diseño centrados en el ser humano y colaboraciones interdisciplinarias para la habilitación escalable basada en datos de tecnologías de teleconsulta de teléfonos inteligentes, celulares y video para vincular hospitales, clínicas y servicios médicos de emergencia para evaluaciones de COVID en el punto de atención. pruebas, y para el tratamiento posterior y decisiones de cuarentena. Rápidamente se creó un equipo multidisciplinario, en cooperación con diferentes instituciones, entre ellas: la Universidad Autónoma de Baja California, la Secretaría de Salud, el Centro de Comando, Comunicaciones y Control Informático. de la Secretaría del Estado de Baja California (C4), Facultades de Medicina y Colegio de Psicólogos.
