Model Driven Mutation Applied to Adaptative Systems Testing
Dynamically Adaptive Systems modify their behav- ior and structure in
response to changes in their surrounding environment and according to an
adaptation logic. Critical sys- tems increasingly incorporate dynamic
adaptation capabilities; examples include disaster relief and space exploration
systems. In this paper, we focus on mutation testing of the adaptation logic.
We propose a fault model for adaptation logics that classifies faults into
environmental completeness and adaptation correct- ness. Since there are
several adaptation logic languages relying on the same underlying concepts, the
fault model is expressed independently from specific adaptation languages.
Taking benefit from model-driven engineering technology, we express these
common concepts in a metamodel and define the operational semantics of mutation
operators at this level. Mutation is applied on model elements and model
transformations are used to propagate these changes to a given adaptation
policy in the chosen formalism. Preliminary results on an adaptive web server
highlight the difficulty of killing mutants for adaptive systems, and thus the

Towards Deterministic Reconfigurable Networks
Compared with legacy networks, programmable networks are highlyflexible and need to be reconfigured dynamically. In this early work paper, we studythe fast and consistent network update which is the key enabler to realize deterministicreconfigurable networks. The reconfiguration speed is one side of the coin. Theongoing best-effort traffic cannot be interrupted during the network reconfigurationas well. In terms of reconfiguration speed, we implement and compare our methodwith the state-of-the-art decentralized and centralized update methods
A consistency framework for dynamic reconfiguration in AO-middleware architectures
Aspect-oriented (AO) middleware is a promising technology for the realisation of dynamic reconfiguration in distributed systems. Similar to other dynamic reconfiguration approaches, AO-middleware based reconfiguration requires that the consistency of the system is maintained across reconfigurations. AO middleware based reconfiguration is an ongoing research topic and several consistency approaches have been proposed. However, most of these approaches tend to be targeted at specific narrow contexts, whereas for heterogeneous distributed systems it is crucial to cover a wide range of operating conditions. In this paper we address this problem by exploring a flexible, framework-based consistency management approach that cover a wide range of operating conditions ensuring distributed dynamic reconfiguration in a consistent manner for AO-middleware architectures
Design, implementation and evaluation of a QoS-aware transport protocol
In the context of a reconfigurable transport protocol framework, we propose a QoS-aware Transport Protocol (QSTP), specifically designed to operate over QoS-enabled networks with bandwidth guarantee. QSTP combines QoS-aware TFRC congestion control mechanism, which takes into account the network-level bandwidth reservations, with a Selective ACKnowledgment (SACK) mechanism in order to provide a QoS-aware transport service that fill the gap between QoS enabled network services and QoS constraint applications. We have developed a prototype of this protocol in the user-space and conducted a large range of measurements to evaluate this proposal under various network conditions. Our results show that QSTP allows applications to reach their negotiated QoS over bandwidth guaranteed networks, such as DiffServ/AF network, where TCP fails. This protocol appears to be the first reliable protocol especially designed for QoS network architectures with bandwidth guarantee
Multicriteria decision making for enhanced perception-based multimedia communication
This paper proposes an approach that integrates technical concerns with user perceptual considerations for intelligent decision making in the construction of tailor-made multimedia communication protocols. Thus, the proposed approach, based on multicriteria decision making (MDM), incorporates not only classical networking considerations, but, indeed, user preferences as well. Furthermore, in keeping with the task-dependent nature consistently identified in multimedia scenarios, the suggested communication protocols also take into account the type of multimedia application that they are transporting. Lastly, this approach also opens the possibility for such protocols to dynamically adapt based on a changing operating environment and user's preferences
Pervasive computing at tableside : a wireless web-based ordering system
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to introduce a wireless web-based ordering system called iMenu in the restaurant industry. Design/methodology/approach – By using wireless devices such as personal digital assistants and WebPads, this system realizes the paradigm of pervasive computing at tableside. Detailed system requirements, design, implementation and evaluation of iMenu are presented.Findings – The evaluation of iMenu shows it explicitly increases productivity of restaurant staff. It also has other desirable features such as integration, interoperation and scalability. Compared to traditional restaurant ordering process, by using this system customers get faster and better services, restaurant staff cooperate more efficiently with less working mistakes, and enterprise owners thus receive more business profits. Originality/value – While many researchers have explored using wireless web-based information systems in different industries, this paper presents a system that employs wireless multi-tiered web-based architecture to build pervasive computing systems. Instead of discussing theoretical issues on pervasive computing, we focus on practical issues of developing a real system, such as choosing of web-based architecture, design of input methods in small screens, and response time in wireless web-based systems.<br /
Configuration of a Customized Product
The chapter discusses problems of the product configuration process and application of chosen methods to represent the knowledge related to this process. One of the most important issues in product life-cycle management is to identify customer needs and combine them with product’s technical and trade characteristics. The main tasks related to product configuration are focused on identifying the most suitable product to a particular customer, product decomposition, and estimating product characteristics. In the presented approach, identification of customer needs was discussed, and a product decomposition method was presented. The quality function deployment (QFD) method was suggested to be applied as a product and production process data integration tool, where engineering characteristics of a product are combined with its trade characteristics
The Impact of Product and Process Strategies on the Service Performance: The Mediating Role of Supply Chain Integrations
The main purpose of the current study is to investigate he relationship between product and process strategies and the service performance namely delivery performance and the support performance. In addition to that the study has also examined the mediating role of supply chain integrations namely supplier integration and customer integration in the relationship between product and process strategies and the service performance. In this research, Product Modularity is the specific product and Process Modularity is the process strategy, which has been selected. The performance of service is influenced by these two strategies in a direct and indirect way. The focus of the study is on the evaluation of the level to which the supplier (upstream) as well as customer (downstream) integration mediates the impact of process strategies on performance of services. The study is among the pioneering studies on the issues. So, current study has used SEM-PLS as statistical tool to answer the research questions raised in this study and research objectives envisaged in the current study. The findings of the current study have provided support to with the hypothesized results. This study will be helpful for policymakers and researchers in examining the link between product and process strategies and the service performance namely delivery performance and the support performance
Dynamic reconfiguration of GCM components
We detail in this report past research and current/future developments in formal specification of Grid component systems by temporal logic and consequent resolution technique, for an automated dynamic reconfiguration of components. It is analysed the specification procedure of GCM (Grid Component Model) components and infrastructure in respect to their state behaviour, and the verification process in a dynamic and reconfigurable distributed system. Furthermore it is demonstrated how an automata based method is used to achieve the specification, as well as how the enrichment of the temporal specification language of Computation Tree Logic CTL with the ability to capture norms, allows to formally define the concept of reconfiguration
