Increasingly, libraries are recognizing the importance of providing access to the research output of their universities. In a June 10, 2019, news release from the provosts of the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) titled “Sustaining Values and Scholarship” (available at https://tinyurl.com/yyu94aa9), they state, “The Big Ten Academic Alliance will continue its advocacy for a sustainable and open ecosystem of publication. . . . Collectively, our institutions’ more than 50,000 faculty are supported by over $10 billion (2017) in research funding, and our institutions have similarly invested significantly in our capacity to further our missions to advance knowledge. Together, we produce roughly 15% of the research publications in the United States.” This commitment to open information is reflected in the mission of the Media and Repository Support (MARS) unit of the UNL Libraries. We support the creation and preservation of the scholarly accomplishments of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln by providing an infrastructure for disseminating information and scholarship through Digital Commons (articles, reports, journals, books, and more), Luna (multimedia projects), and Rosetta (data) as well as by providing equipment that students and faculty can check out to capture video and digital images. Through our efforts, the intellectual contributions of UNL are provided, when possible, as open access to disseminate information to as wide a community as possible. We provide advice and consult with researchers and students on scholarly communication issues surrounding open education resources, copyright, options for rights management, publication, and preservation of information in coordination with other faculty and staff in the Libraries. We maintain close contact with staff from Archives & Special Collections to ensure that nondigital information is not overlooked in preservation plans. Faculty within the unit have developed close relationships with the UNL Office of Research, faculty across our campus, and colleagues at the other University of Nebraska campuses (through the University of Nebraska Consortium of Libraries, UNCL)

    Get PDF
The National Dual Training System (NDTS) was officially launched in February 2018 and there are five NDTS-approved McDonald’s practical training locations at the early implementation of the NDTS. By 2025, 450 McDonald’s Malaysia restaurants are expected to expand, adding 10,000 jobs to the current workforce of 12,000 employees. Based on the increasing number of employees and positive implementation of the NDTS program in McDonald’s Malaysia, this study aimed to explore the best practices of McDonald’s Malaysia in the context of NDTS. Methodologically, a qualitative approach was employed in this study by conducting a group discussion with the McDonald’s personnel, document analysis (such as news, annual reports, and websites) and a literature review. From the thematic analysis, the findings highlight the best practices of McDonald’s Malaysia and the positive implications of the NDTS implementation. A review of McDonald's training and skill development around the world provides additional support for the findings. Significantly, this study contributes to promote the best practices of McDonald’s Malaysia, the positive image of McDonald's Malaysia and the positive implications of NDTS in supporting skills development in Malaysia

Selection criteria of test signals for correlation-based wire fault analysis (preprint)

    Get PDF
ReportThis paper compares reflectometry signals for location of intermittent faults on live electrical cables. STDR, SSTDR, linear chirp, quadratic chirp, concave-up chirp, convex-down chirp and all frequency randomized phase noise signals were tested. The SSTDR was observed to be the most effective signal for live wire testing, because of its minimal interference with the existing signals and narrow correlation signature. This paper provides a methodology for systematically evaluating signal performance and design criteria for live wire test systems

Identifying priority questions regarding rapid systematic reviews’ methods: protocol for an eDelphi study

    Get PDF
Introduction: Rapid systematic reviews (RRs) have the potential to provide timely information to decision-makers, thus directly impacting healthcare. However, consensus regarding the most efficient approaches to performing RRs and the presence of several unaddressed methodological issues pose challenges. With such a large potential research agenda for RRs, it is unclear what should be prioritised.// Objective: To elicit a consensus from RR experts and interested parties on what are the most important methodological questions (from the generation of the question to the writing of the report) for the field to address in order to guide the effective and efficient development of RRs.// Methods and analysis: An eDelphi study will be conducted. Researchers with experience in evidence synthesis and other interested parties (eg, knowledge users, patients, community members, policymaker, industry, journal editors and healthcare providers) will be invited to participate. The following steps will be taken: (1) a core group of experts in evidence synthesis will generate the first list of items based on the available literature; (2) using LimeSurvey, participants will be invited to rate and rank the importance of suggested RR methodological questions. Questions with open format responses will allow for modifications to the wording of items or the addition of new items; (3) three survey rounds will be performed asking participants to re-rate items, with items deemed of low importance being removed at each round; (4) a list of items will be generated with items believed to be of high importance by ≥75% of participants being included and (5) this list will be discussed at an online consensus meeting that will generate a summary document containing the final priority list. Data analysis will be performed using raw numbers, means and frequencies.// Ethics and dissemination: This study was approved by the Concordia University Human Research Ethics Committee (#30015229). Both traditional, for example, scientific conference presentations and publication in scientific journals, and non-traditional, for example, lay summaries and infographics, knowledge translation products will be created

PRISMA 2020 explanation and elaboration: updated guidance and exemplars for reporting systematic reviews

    Get PDF
The methods and results of systematic reviews should be reported in sufficient detail to allow users to assess the trustworthiness and applicability of the review findings. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement was developed to facilitate transparent and complete reporting of systematic reviews and has been updated (to PRISMA 2020) to reflect recent advances in systematic review methodology and terminology. Here, we present the explanation and elaboration paper for PRISMA 2020, where we explain why reporting of each item is recommended, present bullet points that detail the reporting recommendations, and present examples from published reviews. We hope that changes to the content and structure of PRISMA 2020 will facilitate uptake of the guideline and lead to more transparent, complete, and accurate reporting of systematic reviews

A 2030 United States Macro Grid Unlocking Geographical Diversity to Accomplish Clean Energy Goals

Some U.S. states have set clean energy goals and targets in an effort to decarbonize their electricity sectors. There are many reasons for such goals and targets, including the increasingly apparent effects of climate change. A handful of states (Washington, California, New York, and Virginia) are aiming for deep decarbonization by 2050 or earlier, a mere 30 years or less from today. The urgency of substantial carbon emissions reduction (50% or more by 2030) needed to avoid catastrophic climate impacts requires even more ambitious efforts than some of the original targets (e.g., a 30% renewable portfolio standard) set for between now and 2030. With the cost of solar and wind energy falling faster than expected in recent years, economics are also driving rapid expansion of clean energy investments. With this in mind, this report examines combinations of interregional AC and High-Voltage DC (HVDC) transmission upgrades and additions to evaluate the benefits of large-scale transmission expansion

The PRISMA 2020 statement : An updated guideline for reporting systematic reviews

    Get PDF
The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement, published in 2009, was designed to help systematic reviewers transparently report why the review was done, what the authors did, and what they found. Over the past decade, advances in systematic review methodology and terminology have necessitated an update to the guideline. The PRISMA 2020 statement replaces the 2009 statement and includes new reporting guidance that reflects advances in methods to identify, select, appraise, and synthesise studies. The structure and presentation of the items have been modified to facilitate implementation. In this article, we present the PRISMA 2020 27-item checklist, an expanded checklist that details reporting recommendations for each item, the PRISMA 2020 abstract checklist, and the revised flow diagrams for original and updated reviews
