âNo Competing Claimsâ: The Seizure, Abandonment, and Acquisition of the PATCO records
This article discusses the unorthodox manner in which the Southern Labor Archives, Georgia State University Library, received the records of the Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization. Also discussed is how having no financial support from the decertified union considerably slowed efforts to process the voluminous collection and make it accessible to researchers
THE LIFE AND WORK OF BARBARA NISSMAN
This research paper focuses on the life and work of American concert pianist Barbara Nissman (b. 1944). Her extensive work as a performer, writer, lecturer and guest clinician makes Nissman one of the most accomplished artists of our time. This paper is the first comprehensive look at Nissmanâs career and her diverse contributions to piano study and performance as a leading expert on the piano music of Alberto Ginastera (1916-1983), Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953), BĂ©la BartĂłk (1881-1945), and Franz Liszt (1811-1886). As an overview of Nissmanâs life and career, this paper provides both a thorough presentation of Nissmanâs contributions and serves as a resource for presenting her work to a wider audience. The paper includes a biography of Nissman, supported by her own personal and professional accounts; separate chapters on the piano music of Alberto Ginastera, BĂ©la BartĂłk, Franz Liszt and Sergei Prokofiev with Nissmanâs remarks on each composerâs compositional language along with study and performance suggestions; a revealing interview with Nissman discussing her professional career, experience working with prominent musicians, and advice for the next generation of pianists; and a detailed list of Nissmanâs recordings and publications

Quasiconformal mappings, from Ptolemy's geography to the work of TeichmĂŒller
The origin of quasiconformal mappings, like that of conformal mappings, can be traced back to old cartography where the basic problem was the search for mappings from the sphere onto the plane with minimal deviation from conformality, subject to certain conditions which were made precise. In this paper, we survey the development of cartography, highlighting the main ideas that are related to quasiconformality. Some of these ideas were completely ignored in the previous historical surveys on quasiconformal mappings. We then survey early quasiconformal theory in the works of Grötzsch, Lavrentieff, Ahlfors and TeichmĂŒller, which are the 20th-century founders of the theory
