De-Gendering informatischer Artefakte: Grundlagen einer kritisch-feministischen Technikgestaltung
Gender studies in computer science was only recently established at German universities. This research area is often understood as either addressing the problem of getting more women into IT professions or focussing on alleged gender differences in the design and use of IT. In contrast, the main objective of this dissertation is to identify and systemize gendering processes in products, theories, methods and assumptions of computer science (i.e. computational artifacts), in order to propose technology design methods, which aim at de-gendering these artefacts. The thesis focuses on three topics of inquiry: 1. Theoretical foundation: How can gendering and de-gendering processes of computational artifacts be theorized? 2. Practices of gendering: What are dimensions and mechanisms of gendering computational computational artifacts? 3. Methodological concepts for de-gendering: How can computational artefacts be designed, which can be characterized as de-gendered technologie
SexualitÀt im Diagramm in Kunst und Wissenschaft seit Magnus Hirschfeld : Eine kritisch-ikonologische Studie
Was will die Sexualwissenschaft vom Diagramm? Und was versprechen sich KĂŒnstler_innen davon, wenn sie darin Sex und Gender verhandeln? Diagramme dienen hĂ€ufig dazu, etwas Unsichtbares oder noch-nicht-Fassbares sichtbar zu machen. Die Beschleunigung der Wahrnehmung, die sie erzeugen, macht sie als rhetorische Medien besonders effektiv. Mit der Assoziation von Berechenbarkeit vermitteln Diagramme zudem den Anschein, objektives Wissen zu kommunizieren. Diese kritisch-ikonologische Dissertation verfolgt das Ziel einer verlangsamenden Re-LektĂŒre von âSexualitĂ€t im Diagrammâ. So werden hier Diagramme von einigen einflussreichen Sexualwissenschaftler_innen (Magnus Hirschfeld, Alfred Kinsey & co., John Money/Anke Erhardt) und des KĂŒnstlers John Lindell daraufhin befragt, welche AusschlĂŒsse oder Paradoxien darin zu sehen gegeben werden und wie sie mit Macht/Wissen-Komplexen interferieren.What does sexology want from the diagram? And what do artists opt for when they use it to negotiate sex and gender? Diagrams often serve to make something invisible or not-yet-tangible visible. The accelerated mode of perception, they promote, makes them especially effective as rhetorical media. Moreover, the association of diagrams with calculability produces the impression, that they communicate objective knowledge. This critical-iconogical dissertation aims at a slown down, re(peated)-lecture of âsexuality in the diagramâ. Accordingly, diagrams by some influential sexologists (Magnus Hirschfeld, Alfred Kinsey & co., John Money/Anke Erhardt), and by the artist John Lindell will be questioned about, which exclusions or paradoxes are given to be seen, and how they interfere with the power/knowledge paradigms

Identifikation in digitalen Lernspielen: der Einfluss der Identifikation mit Spielercharakteren auf das Lernen und die Motivation
The present research project deals with the medium of digital learning games. First, digital learning games will be described. Then the âplayer character,â a major element of digital learning games, will be described in depth. A preliminary definition for both concepts will be advanced.
The goal of this research project is to prove (theoretically and empirically) and to describe in detail the (initiating) relationship between the player of digital learning games and the âplayer characters.â First we will consider if and how a relationship between player and player character develops, and if this relationship is an identification or another (more or less close related) process (i. e., parasocial interaction, similarity, or wishful identification). Furthermore, the processes of learning and motivation will be integrated into the research on digital learning games--i. e., is the process of identification influenced by the learning process or by motivation? The empirical part of this research project starts with a pilot study, in which subjects were observed and afterwards interviewed. The aim of this pilot study was to find out whether player characters are relevant components for the players of digital learning games, which elements of player characters are important for players, and to what extent a relationship, or even an identification, between player and player character can be observed. For the following master study a digital learning game (probably a fantasy game) will be developed. Using this learning game, we will investigate to what extent players identify with their player characters and how the identification influences learning and the motivation to continue playing the game. The empirical results from both studies, combined with theoretical insights, will give indications and suggestions for the future development, creation and design of player characters in digital learning games

Unter der Einbeziehung des Technology-Acceptance-Models (TAM) und dem Uses-and-Gratification Ansatzes werden Nutzungsmotive aus dem Forschungsstand herausgearbeitet und empirisch getestet (Studierende der TU Dresden, n=1242). Studierende nutzen demnach Anwendungen fĂŒr das Studium, die sie auch schon im alltĂ€glichen Leben verwenden. Besonders im Bereich der Zusammenarbeit sowie zur Kontaktaufnahme zu Kommilitonen werden Anwendungen aus der Freizeit genutzt. Unverzichtbar fĂŒr das Studium ist fĂŒr die meisten Studierenden die Nutzung des Lernmanagementsystems, welche zumeist von Dozenten vorgeschrieben ist. Aufwachsen in ĂŒberwachten Umgebungen
Digital technologies are exerting a growing influence on the lives of children and teenagers: from video monitoring of babies and educational robots in nursery school to AI-powered learning assistants used to guarantee individual success in education. However, issues relating to privacy, surveillance and data protection are seldom reflected on with regard to this sensitive and important social sphere. The majority of these applications generate data which reveal a great deal about the adolescents who use them. This study addresses this subject area. Together with practitioners from the field of education and with the goal of laying the foundations for addressing this issue in both academic and (socio-) political discourse, it depicts interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary exchange that extends beyond disciplines and academic borders.
