    This chapter describes the development of algorithms for automatic detection of anomalies from multi-dimensional, undersampled and incomplete datasets. The challenge in this work is to identify and classify behaviours as normal or abnormal, safe or threatening, from an irregular and often heterogeneous sensor network. Many defence and civilian applications can be modelled as complex networks of interconnected nodes with unknown or uncertain spatio-temporal relations. The behavior of such heterogeneous networks can exhibit dynamic properties, reflecting evolution in both network structure (new nodes appearing and existing nodes disappearing), as well as inter-node relations. The UDRC work has addressed not only the detection of anomalies, but also the identification of their nature and their statistical characteristics. Normal patterns and changes in behavior have been incorporated to provide an acceptable balance between true positive rate, false positive rate, performance and computational cost. Data quality measures have been used to ensure the models of normality are not corrupted by unreliable and ambiguous data. The context for the activity of each node in complex networks offers an even more efficient anomaly detection mechanism. This has allowed the development of efficient approaches which not only detect anomalies but which also go on to classify their behaviour

    1-D broadside-radiating leaky-wave antenna based on a numerically synthesized impedance surface

    A newly-developed deterministic numerical technique for the automated design of metasurface antennas is applied here for the first time to the design of a 1-D printed Leaky-Wave Antenna (LWA) for broadside radiation. The surface impedance synthesis process does not require any a priori knowledge on the impedance pattern, and starts from a mask constraint on the desired far-field and practical bounds on the unit cell impedance values. The designed reactance surface for broadside radiation exhibits a non conventional patterning; this highlights the merit of using an automated design process for a design well known to be challenging for analytical methods. The antenna is physically implemented with an array of metal strips with varying gap widths and simulation results show very good agreement with the predicted performance

    Design and Analysis of Superresolution algorithm and signal separation technique for an OFDM-based MIMO radar

    Extend the OFDM-based SISO radar to MIMO configuration to estimate direction of arrival (azimuth and elevation); Design a RF front end for MIMO radar transmitter and verify the DOA algorithm.Recently, the concept of MIMO radar has been proposed. MIMO radar has the capability to transmit orthogonal (or incoherent) waveforms at multiple transmit antennas. It offers promising potentials for multipath fading, resolution enhancement and interference suppression. Many research about MIMO radar in signal processing have been conducted. However, the implementation of MIMO radar in practice is still not common. In this thesis, the SISO OFDM radar and communication system (RadCom), a previous project at Institut für Hochfrequenztechnik und Elektronik, KIT, Germany, is extended to MIMO configuration using the idea of spectrally interleaved multi-carrier signals to estimate the direction of arrival of targets in 2D and 3D radar. The main aim of this thesis is to implement and evaluate a MIMO OFDM-based radar system. The thesis consits of two parts, the software and hardware part. In the first part of the thesis, the MIMO radar is studied. A signal modeling is derived along with the analysis of suitable antenna geometries for 2D and 3D radar. The MIMO radar with the ability to form vitual array can increase significantly the resolution of direcion-of-arrival (DOA). For that purpose, numerous algorithms based on different mathematical approaches exist. The numerical results show that the MUSIC algorithm based on subspace method is simple to implement and have good resolution. We combine the OFDM-based signal model with MUSIC to perform 2D and 3D radar sensing. The DOA estimation with MUSIC along with the simulation results are presented. The second half of this thesis focuses on hardware design for MIMO radar systems. A RF front end for 4 transmitters with direct conversion architecture was considered. The transmitters include low pass filters (LPFs), I/Q upcoverter, PLL synthesizer, 4:1 Wilkinson divider. Inverse Chebyshev LPFs at 50 Mhz with lumped elements were built and measured. In addition, a sufficient 4:1 Wilkinson divider was simulated and fabricated. The other individual elements of the transmitter was measured and analyzed. Several measurement have been taken to test one whole transmitter. In addition, the signal generated by the FPGA, which is planned to intergrate with the transmitters, are analyzed.     Beam scanning by liquid-crystal biasing in a modified SIW structure

    A fixed-frequency beam-scanning 1D antenna based on Liquid Crystals (LCs) is designed for application in 2D scanning with lateral alignment. The 2D array environment imposes full decoupling of adjacent 1D antennas, which often conflicts with the LC requirement of DC biasing: the proposed design accommodates both. The LC medium is placed inside a Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) modified to work as a Groove Gap Waveguide, with radiating slots etched on the upper broad wall, that radiates as a Leaky-Wave Antenna (LWA). This allows effective application of the DC bias voltage needed for tuning the LCs. At the same time, the RF field remains laterally confined, enabling the possibility to lay several antennas in parallel and achieve 2D beam scanning. The design is validated by simulation employing the actual properties of a commercial LC medium

    Signal processing is an enabling technology crucial to all areas of defence and security. It is called for whenever humans and autonomous systems are required to interpret data (i.e. the signal) output from sensors. This leads to the production of the intelligence on which military outcomes depend. Signal processing should be timely, accurate and suited to the decisions to be made. When performed well it is critical, battle-winning and probably the most important weapon which you’ve never heard of. With the plethora of sensors and data sources that are emerging in the future network-enabled battlespace, sensing is becoming ubiquitous. This makes signal processing more complicated but also brings great opportunities. The second phase of the University Defence Research Collaboration in Signal Processing was set up to meet these complex problems head-on while taking advantage of the opportunities. Its unique structure combines two multi-disciplinary academic consortia, in which many researchers can approach different aspects of a problem, with baked-in industrial collaboration enabling early commercial exploitation. This phase of the UDRC will have been running for 5 years by the time it completes in March 2018, with remarkable results. This book aims to present those accomplishments and advances in a style accessible to stakeholders, collaborators and exploiters

    Antenna array design for retrodirective wireless power transmission and radar

    This thesis presents antenna array design and the integration of microwave circuit systems for retrodirective wireless power transmission and radar. Wireless power transmission (WPT) and automotive radar are emerging topics which have attracted a lot of interest in the past few years. The development of these systems usually brings high associated costs if competitive performance is required. The first part of the thesis is concerned with the development of a new retrodirective antenna array (RDA) system for WPT which uses sub-arrays in transmit to save costs, however, losing tracking in one plane. Nevertheless, depending on the application, the proposed system might be an alternative solution to existing approaches as similar performances are achieved, but at generally a lower cost for the proposed RDA design as compared to the conventional solution. The proposed system has been designed to work in the ISM band (2.5 GHz for receiving and 2.4 GHz for transmitting) which exhibits an 80◦ 3-dB half-power beamwidth for the monostatic pattern. Additionally, it has been demonstrated that the system is able to work in the near-field region, being able to achieve wireless charging of a handeld electronic device at a 50 cm distance. The power for the beacon signal sent by the device to be charged by the system (for tracking purposes) is 6.6 dBm, whereas the received RF power from the RDA is in excess of 27 dBm, which means that the device is receiving a hundred times the power sent for battery charging. On the other hand, the second part of the thesis relates to the development of two important elements within a frequency-modulated-continuous-wave (FMCW) auto motive radar working at 24 GHz: a substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) butler matrix antenna array as the transmitter and a new post-processing technique called Pwr+. These two in combination bring some interesting advantages in terms of angular resolution improvements when compared to conventional single-input-multiple output (SIMO) radars. For example, the proposed system is able to distinguish two targets which are 2 degrees apart as well as a higher field-of-view (FOV) thanks to the beamforming network that generates 4 individual beams covering a wide FOV. The newly developed radar system is also comparable to multiple-input-multiple output (MIMO) radars but with the added value of having a shorter processing time, which for automotive radar applications is a crucial characteristic to be minimized, and could, therefore, avoid potential road accidents.     Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing multiple-input multiple-output automotive radar with novel signal processing algorithms

    Advanced driver assistance systems that actively assist the driver based on environment perception achieved significant advances in recent years. Along with this development, autonomous driving became a major research topic that aims ultimately at development of fully automated, driverless vehicles. Since such applications rely on environment perception, their ever increasing sophistication imposes growing demands on environmental sensors. Specifically, the need for reliable environment sensing necessitates the development of more sophisticated, high-performance radar sensors. A further vital challenge in terms of increased radar interference arises with the growing market penetration of the vehicular radar technology. To address these challenges, in many respects novel approaches and radar concepts are required. As the modulation is one of the key factors determining the radar performance, the research of new modulation schemes for automotive radar becomes essential. A topic that emerged in the last years is the radar operating with digitally generated waveforms based on orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). Initially, the use of OFDM for radar was motivated by the combination of radar with communication via modulation of the radar waveform with communication data. Some subsequent works studied the use of OFDM as a modulation scheme in many different radar applications - from adaptive radar processing to synthetic aperture radar. This suggests that the flexibility provided by OFDM based digital generation of radar waveforms can potentially enable novel radar concepts that are well suited for future automotive radar systems. This thesis aims to explore the perspectives of OFDM as a modulation scheme for high-performance, robust and adaptive automotive radar. To this end, novel signal processing algorithms and OFDM based radar concepts are introduced in this work. The main focus of the thesis is on high-end automotive radar applications, while the applicability for real time implementation is of primary concern. The first part of this thesis focuses on signal processing algorithms for distance-velocity estimation. As a foundation for the algorithms presented in this thesis, a novel and rigorous signal model for OFDM radar is introduced. Based on this signal model, the limitations of the state-of-the-art OFDM radar signal processing are pointed out. To overcome these limitations, we propose two novel signal processing algorithms that build upon the conventional processing and extend it by more sophisticated modeling of the radar signal. The first method named all-cell Doppler compensation (ACDC) overcomes the Doppler sensitivity problem of OFDM radar. The core idea of this algorithm is the scenario-independent correction of Doppler shifts for the entire measurement signal. Since Doppler effect is a major concern for OFDM radar and influences the radar parametrization, its complete compensation opens new perspectives for OFDM radar. It not only achieves an improved, Doppler-independent performance, it also enables more favorable system parametrization. The second distance-velocity estimation algorithm introduced in this thesis addresses the issue of range and Doppler frequency migration due to the target’s motion during the measurement. For the conventional radar signal processing, these migration effects set an upper limit on the simultaneously achievable distance and velocity resolution. The proposed method named all-cell migration compensation (ACMC) extends the underlying OFDM radar signal model to account for the target motion. As a result, the effect of migration is compensated implicitly for the entire radar measurement, which leads to an improved distance and velocity resolution. Simulations show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms in overcoming the two major limitations of the conventional OFDM radar signal processing. As multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar is a well-established technology for improving the direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation, the second part of this work studies the multiplexing methods for OFDM radar that enable simultaneous use of multiple transmit antennas for MIMO radar processing. After discussing the drawbacks of known multiplexing methods, we introduce two advanced multiplexing schemes for OFDM-MIMO radar based on non-equidistant interleaving of OFDM subcarriers. These multiplexing approaches exploit the multicarrier structure of OFDM for generation of orthogonal waveforms that enable a simultaneous operation of multiple MIMO channels occupying the same bandwidth. The primary advantage of these methods is that despite multiplexing they maintain all original radar parameters (resolution and unambiguous range in distance and velocity) for each individual MIMO channel. To obtain favorable interleaving patterns with low sidelobes, we propose an optimization approach based on genetic algorithms. Furthermore, to overcome the drawback of increased sidelobes due to subcarrier interleaving, we study the applicability of sparse processing methods for the distance-velocity estimation from measurements of non-equidistantly interleaved OFDM-MIMO radar. We introduce a novel sparsity based frequency estimation algorithm designed for this purpose. The third topic addressed in this work is the robustness of OFDM radar to interference from other radar sensors. In this part of the work we study the interference robustness of OFDM radar and propose novel interference mitigation techniques. The first interference suppression algorithm we introduce exploits the robustness of OFDM to narrowband interference by dropping subcarriers strongly corrupted by interference from evaluation. To avoid increase of sidelobes due to missing subcarriers, their values are reconstructed from the neighboring ones based on linear prediction methods. As a further measure for increasing the interference robustness in a more universal manner, we propose the extension of OFDM radar with cognitive features. We introduce the general concept of cognitive radar that is capable of adapting to the current spectral situation for avoiding interference. Our work focuses mainly on waveform adaptation techniques; we propose adaptation methods that allow dynamic interference avoidance without affecting adversely the estimation performance. The final part of this work focuses on prototypical implementation of OFDM-MIMO radar. With the constructed prototype, the feasibility of OFDM for high-performance radar applications is demonstrated. Furthermore, based on this radar prototype the algorithms presented in this thesis are validated experimentally. The measurements confirm the applicability of the proposed algorithms and concepts for real world automotive radar implementations

This book presents the different results of the DESERVE project concerning the ADAS development platform, test case functions, and validation and evaluation of different approaches.     Localization as a Key Enabler of 6G Wireless Systems: A Comprehensive Survey and an Outlook

    peer reviewedWhen fully implemented, sixth generation (6G) wireless systems will constitute intelligent wireless networks that enable not only ubiquitous communication but also high-Accuracy localization services. They will be the driving force behind this transformation by introducing a new set of characteristics and service capabilities in which location will coexist with communication while sharing available resources. To that purpose, this survey investigates the envisioned applications and use cases of localization in future 6G wireless systems, while analyzing the impact of the major technology enablers. Afterwards, system models for millimeter wave, terahertz and visible light positioning that take into account both line-of-sight (LOS) and non-LOS channels are presented, while localization key performance indicators are revisited alongside mathematical definitions. Moreover, a detailed review of the state of the art conventional and learning-based localization techniques is conducted. Furthermore, the localization problem is formulated, the wireless system design is considered and the optimization of both is investigated. Finally, insights that arise from the presented analysis are summarized and used to highlight the most important future directions for localization in 6G wireless systems
