    Application of Artificial Intelligence in Basketball Sport

    Basketball is among the most popular sports in the world, and its related industries have also produced huge economic benefits. In recent years, the application of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in basketball has attracted a large amount of attention. We conducted a comprehensive review of the application research of AI in basketball through literature retrieval. Current research focuses on the AI analysis of basketball team and player performance, prediction of competition results, analysis and prediction of shooting, AI coaching system, intelligent training machine and arena, and sports injury prevention. Most studies have shown that AI technology can improve the training level of basketball players, help coaches formulate suitable game strategies, prevent sports injuries, and improve the enjoyment of games. At the same time, it is also found that the number and level of published papers are relatively limited. We believe that the application of AI in basketball is still in its infancy. We call on relevant industries to increase their research investment in this area, and promote the improvement of the level of basketball, making the game increasingly exciting as its worldwide popularity continues to increase

    Development of a biological signal-based evaluator for robot-assisted upper-limb rehabilitation: a pilot study

    Bio-signal based assessment for upper-limb functions is an attractive technology for rehabilitation. In this work, an upper-limb function evaluator is developed based on biological signals, which could be used for selecting different robotic training protocols. Interaction force (IF) and participation level (PL, processed surface electromyography (sEMG) signals) are used as the key bio-signal inputs for the evaluator. Accordingly, a robot-based standardized performance testing (SPT) is developed to measure these key bio-signal data. Moreover, fuzzy logic is used to regulate biological signals, and a rules-based selector is then developed to select different training protocols. To the authors’ knowledge, studies focused on biological signal-based evaluator for selecting robotic training protocols, especially for robot-based bilateral rehabilitation, has not yet been reported in literature. The implementation of SPT and fuzzy logic to measure and process key bio-signal data with a rehabilitation robot system is the first of its kind. Five healthy participants were then recruited to test the performance of the SPT, fuzzy logic and evaluator in three different conditions (tasks). The results show: (1) the developed SPT has an ability to measure precise bio-signal data from participants; (2) the utilized fuzzy logic has an ability to process the measured data with the accuracy of 86.7% and 100% for the IF and PL respectively; and (3) the proposed evaluator has an ability to distinguish the intensity of biological signals and thus to select different robotic training protocols. The results from the proposed evaluator, and biological signals measured from healthy people could also be used to standardize the criteria to assess the results of stroke patients later

    Incorporating spatial relationship information in signal-to-text processing

    This dissertation outlines the development of a signal-to-text system that incorporates spatial relationship information to generate scene descriptions. Existing signal-to-text systems generate accurate descriptions in regards to information contained in an image. However, to date, no signalto- text system incorporates spatial relationship information. A survey of related work in the fields of object detection, signal-to-text, and spatial relationships in images is presented first. Three methodologies followed by evaluations were conducted in order to create the signal-to-text system: 1) generation of object localization results from a set of input images, 2) derivation of Level One Summaries from an input image, and 3) inference of Level Two Summaries from the derived Level One Summaries. Validation processes are described for the second and third evaluations, as the first evaluation has been previously validated in the related original works. The goal of this research is to show that a signal-to-text system that incorporates spatial information results in more informative descriptions of the content contained in an image. An additional goal of this research is to demonstrate the signal-to-text system can be easily applied to additional data sets, other than the sets used to train the system, and achieve similar results to the training sets.     The research presents a series of comprehensive analyses based on inertial measurements obtained from wearable sensors to quantitatively describe and assess human kinematic performance in certain tasks that are most related to daily life activities. This is not only a direct application of human movement analysis but also very pivotal in assessing the progression of patients undergoing rehabilitation services. Moreover, the detailed analysis will provide clinicians with greater insights to capture movement disorders and unique ataxic features regarding axial abnormalities which are not directly observed by the clinicians

    Adaptive enhancement design of non-significant regions of a Wushu action 3D image based on the symmetric difference algorithm

    The recognition of martial arts movements with the aid of computers has become crucial because of the vigorous promotion of martial arts education in schools in China to support the national essence and the inclusion of martial arts as a physical education test item in the secondary school examination in Shanghai. In this paper, the fundamentals of background difference algorithms are examined and a systematic analysis of the benefits and drawbacks of various background difference algorithms is presented. Background difference algorithm solutions are proposed for a number of common, challenging problems. The empty background is then automatically extracted using a symmetric disparity approach that is proposed for the initialization of background disparity in three-dimensional (3D) photos of martial arts action. It is possible to swiftly remove and manipulate the background, even in intricate martial arts action recognition scenarios. According to the experimental findings, the algorithm's optimized model significantly enhances the foreground segmentation effect of the backdrop disparity in 3D photos of martial arts action. The use of features such as texture probability is coupled to considerably enhance the shadow elimination effect for the shadow problem of background differences
