    Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementation is a complex and vibrant process, one that involves a combination of technological and organizational interactions. Often an ERP implementation project is the single largest IT project that an organization has ever launched and requires a mutual fit of system and organization. Also the concept of an ERP implementation supporting business processes across many different departments is not a generic, rigid and uniform concept and depends on variety of factors. As a result, the issues addressing the ERP implementation process have been one of the major concerns in industry. Therefore ERP implementation receives attention from practitioners and scholars and both, business as well as academic literature is abundant and not always very conclusive or coherent. However, research on ERP systems so far has been mainly focused on diffusion, use and impact issues. Less attention has been given to the methods used during the configuration and the implementation of ERP systems, even though they are commonly used in practice, they still remain largely unexplored and undocumented in Information Systems research. So, the academic relevance of this research is the contribution to the existing body of scientific knowledge. An annotated brief literature review is done in order to evaluate the current state of the existing academic literature. The purpose is to present a systematic overview of relevant ERP implementation methodologies and frameworks as a desire for achieving a better taxonomy of ERP implementation methodologies. This paper is useful to researchers who are interested in ERP implementation methodologies and frameworks. Results will serve as an input for a classification of the existing ERP implementation methodologies and frameworks. Also, this paper aims also at the professional ERP community involved in the process of ERP implementation by promoting a better understanding of ERP implementation methodologies and frameworks, its variety and history

    UML-SOA-Sec and Saleem's MDS Services Composition Framework for Secure Business Process Modelling of Services Oriented Applications

    In Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) environment, a software application is a composition of services, which are scattered across enterprises and architectures. Security plays a vital role during the design, development and operation of SOA applications. However, analysis of today's software development approaches reveals that the engineering of security into the system design is often neglected. Security is incorporated in an ad-hoc manner or integrated during the applications development phase or administration phase or out sourced. SOA security is cross-domain and all of the required information is not available at downstream phases. The post-hoc, low-level integration of security has a negative impact on the resulting SOA applications. General purpose modeling languages like Unified Modeling Language (UML) are used for designing the software system; however, these languages lack the knowledge of the specific domain and "security" is one of the essential domains. A Domain Specific Language (DSL), named the "UML-SOA-Sec" is proposed to facilitate the modeling of security objectives along the business process modeling of SOA applications. Furthermore, Saleem's MDS (Model Driven Security) services composition framework is proposed for the development of a secure web service composition

    Building Cloud-Based Information Systems Lab Architecture: Deriving Design Principles that Facilitate the Effective Construction and Evaluation of a Cloud-Based Lab Environment

    The problem explored in this dissertation report was that at the time of this study, there were no design principles or methodologies based on design science research (DSR) available to use for artifact construction, implementation, and effective evaluation of cloud-based networking lab environments that can be used to foster hands-on technology skills in students. Primarily based on Hevner’s 7 guidelines of DSR, Peffer’s design science research methodology (DSRM), and Gregor’s IS design theory, this study forms the groundwork for the development of procedures and specifications derived from DSR literature to facilitate the construction, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive cloud-based computer and information systems (CIS) laboratory artifact that is globally accessible 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Secondarily, this study guided the construction and implementation of a prototype cloud-based lab environment using the procedures and specifications derived from DSR. The cloud-based lab environment was then evaluated based on the skill level attained by students enrolled in courses that leveraged the proposed system. Results of this study showed that the overwhelming majority of the students who participated in the experiment using the cloud-based lab environment showed statistically significant gains in pretest and posttest scores compared to the students who participated in the experiment using the classroom-based physical equipment. These results fully supported the first hypothesis for this study, that participation in the cloud-based lab environment would promote positive student outcomes. The second hypothesis also was supported. The majority of the experimental group students completed most of the labs and significantly spent more time on the system compared to the control group students using the traditional classroom-based physical lab equipment, which indicated the specifications derived from DSR positively influenced the use of the cloud-based system. An argument was made that the proposed study advances IS and education research through artifact construction and evaluation by correlating Hevner’s 7 steps of effective DSR theory, Peffer’s DSRM, and Gregor’s IS design theory to the problem statement, research questions, and hypothesis in order to develop guiding principles and specifications for building and assessing a cloud-based lab environment

This awareness arises from the efforts to accomplish the extreme utilization of Electronic Health Record (EHR). Due to the greater mobility of the population, EHR will be constructed and continuously updated from the contribution of one or many EPRs that are created and stored at different healthcare locations such as acute Hospitals, community services, Mental Health and Social Services. The challenge is to provide healthcare professionals, remotely among heterogeneous interoperable systems, with a complete view of the selective relevant and vital EPRs fragments of each patient during their care. Obtaining extensive EPRs at the point of delivery, together with ability to search for and view vital, valuable, accurate and relevant EPRs fragments can be still challenging. It is needed to reduce redundancy, enhance the quality of medical decision making, decrease the time needed to navigate through very high number of EPRs, which consequently promote the workflow and ease the extra work needed by clinicians. These demands was evaluated through introducing a system model named SVSEPRS (Searching and Viewing Segments of Electronic Patient Records Service) to enable healthcare providers supply high quality and more efficient services, redundant clinical diagnostic tests. Also inappropriate medical decision making process should be avoided via allowing all patients‟ previous clinical tests and healthcare information to be shared between various healthcare organizations. Multidimensional data model, which lie at the core of On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) systems can handle the duplication of healthcare services. This is done by allowing quick search and access to vital and relevant fragments from scattered EPRs to view more comprehensive picture and promote advances in the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses. SVSEPRS is a web based system model that helps participant to search for and view virtual EPR segments, using an endowed and well structured Centralised Multidimensional Search Mapping (CMDSM).     Towards a Framework for Smart Manufacturing adoption in Small and Medium-sized Enterprises

    Smart Manufacturing (SM) paradigm adoption can scale production with demand without compromising on the time for order fulfillment. A smart manufacturing system (SMS) is vertically and horizontally connected, and thus it can minimize the chances of miscommunication. Employees in an SME are aware of the operational requirements and their responsibilities. The machine schedules are prepared based on the tasks a machine must perform. Predictive maintenance reduces the downtime of machines. Design software optimizes the product design. Production feasibility is checked with the help of simulation. The concepts of product life cycle management are considered for waste reduction. Employee safety, and ergonomics, identifying new business opportunities and markets, focus on employee education and skill enhancement are some of the other advantages of SM paradigm adoption. This dissertation develops an SM paradigm adoption framework for manufacturing SMEs by employing the instrumental research approach. The first step in the framework identified the technical aspects of SM, and this step was followed by identifying the research gaps in the suggested methods (in literature) and managerial aspects for adopting SM paradigm. The technical and the managerial aspects were integrated into a toolkit for manufacturing SMEs. This toolkit contains seven modular toolboxes that can be installed in five levels, depending on an SME’s readiness towards SM. The framework proposed in this dissertation focuses on how an SME’s readiness can be assessed and based on its present readiness what tools and practices the SMEs need to have to realize their tailored vision of SM. The framework was validated with the help of two SMEs cases that have recently adopted SM practices

    Electronic information sharing model for Yemen education sectors based on layered behaviour model

    Electronic Information Sharing (EIS) is a proof of the advancement of ICT that supports daily transaction and decision making, including in the higher education sector. In the higher education system in the Republic of Yemen, EIS brings benefits to the Yemen Center for Information Technology in Higher Education (YCIT-HE) and Yemen public universities in many aspects including enhancing information accuracy and timeliness while providing fast services at minimal costs to students and employees of public universities. Albeit a high degree of information sharing, there are limited electronic information sharing between Yemen public universities and YCIT-HE. This limitation creates difficulties and delays in getting services and making decisions. The majority of the previous frameworks and models had concentrated on EIS in the government sector, while very few had focused on the higher education sector. There were also very minimum utilization of the Layer Behavior Model (LBM) in Information Sharing studies in the context of understanding the different situations of EIS at different levels of an organization. Thus, this study aims to develop an EIS model based on Social Exchange Theory, Information Sharing Theory and Layered Behavior Model (LBM). This model combines individual, environment, organization and technology factors which influence EIS. In order to validate the model, Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was applied. A purposive sampling was applied to collect data involving deans of the faculties, engineers responsible for the system, Director of the computer centre, Vice-Chancellor of the University, the senior management of the universities, and the Student Affairs from each of these six universities. A total of 260 questionnaires were distributed to six universities in Yemen via email and face-to-face meeting with 173 (66.53%) returned response. The model demonstrates three dimensions and ten influential factors that can essentially increase the electronic information sharing between Yemen public universities and YCIT-HE. The significant technological factors include IT capability, information quality, IT compatibility, cloud computing, and social media. As for the significant environment factors, they include upper-level leadership as well as policy and law. Organization factors include top management support, interagency trust and Financial Capability. The model can assist the management of university in planning and managing technological, organizational and environmental aspects of the universities in their way forward to improvise and enhance EIS in the future
