One purpose of higher education is to graduate students who will become productive citizens. Some researchers are suggested that every member of an institution of higher education is responsible for promoting educationally purposeful activities that lead to producing good citizens. However, they can be learned in the classroom, and through extracurricular activities and etc. This present study is investigated if accounting graduates from University Utara Malaysia College of Business, a public institution, perceived that their accounting curriculum enhanced the development of their personal competencies of professional demeanor, accounting knowledge, auditing knowledge , computer knowledge, economics, law, leadership, logical reasoning, memorization, oral communications, professionalism, problem solving, statistics, time management, written communications, and working well with others. Graduate Work-Readiness in the 21st Century

The term ‘graduateness’ is beginning to be used, nationally and internationally, to describe a range of competences thought to match the demands of the workplace. There is no accompanying unifying definition, nor framework for formal recognition, rather it is used to imply a combination of attributes that varies between types of Higher Education Institutions across the World. In Ireland, the desirable characteristics of 21st century graduates variously include qualities of being ‘Creative and Enterprising, Solution-Orientated, Effective Communicators, and Globally Engaged Active Leaders’ (DCU 2014). Similarly, they should be engaged, enterprising, enquiry-based, effective and expert in their chosen field (DIT, 2013). While the value of these qualities is not contested here, they may be more appropriate to individuals who are growing in their professional maturity, but less so in their first encounter with work. This paper argues that 21st century graduates should be supported in their transition to the world of work by being equipped with the resources to assimilate the activities of their host rapidly, to assess how their particular role is situated, supplied, and constrained, and appreciate its associated expectations, risks and consequences. Graduate success in the workplace could be underpinned by a methodology that guides formative reflection and develops their ability to evaluate work experiences, both actual and vicarious, within a framework that captures, recognises and reinforces the depth of their tacit learning. This approach may help create a solid foundation for long-term employability, enable the realisation of 21st Century Graduate attributes, and presage their formal recognition, at home and beyond, in the fullest sense. The authors offer a comprehensive workplace-specific protocol and an accompanying methodology that enables graduates not only to assert that they are work-ready, but to provide the evidence

    Get PDF
The retail industry has been employing more graduates in recent years but unfortunately, it has been met with limited success. The purpose of this paper is to provide a historical perspective to the employment of graduates in the retail industry by firstly examining the nature of retail work and how it has changed over the last century. Subsequently, the paper examines the debate on the role of education and training in the retail industry. Drawing on these examinations, the paper concludes that retailers need to realign their graduate employment policies to match what they are able to offer to what graduates need

In Spring 2009, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Library conducted a significant new survey of distance learners enrolled in off-campus or online graduate programs. Exploring distance learners’ perceptions about and use of library services, the survey of 146 students reveals opportunities to better meet the research needs of distance learners whose graduate work may demand extensive use of library resources. The survey affords insights into distance learners’ communication preferences, and their particular research needs. Findings from this survey have informed one academic library’s strategy to begin addressing important questions in library instruction for distance learners.published or submitted for publicationis peer reviewe

The California Institute of Technology has been indicated as a leader in the field of graduate work in electrical engineering, and thus a consideration of its pattern for such studies should be of profit. Some phases of the institute's program are presented, not because they are considered wholly unique, but because they are of considerable merit and did help to pioneer the way to a high standard of graduate work

Every year some 50 000 people exits the Swedish Church and disclaims thus the right to be buried in the Swedish Church ceremonial order and premises. They leave behind the order of the Church, and exits the church room, but they do not enter anything else. My graduate work is an attempt to present an alternative order and alternative rooms
