Evaluation and extracting factual software architecture of distributed system by process mining techniques

    Get PDF
The factual software architectures that are actually implemented of distributed systems do not conform the planned software architectures (Beck 2010). It happens due to the complexity of distributed systems. This problem begets two main challenges; First, how to extract the factual software architectures with the proper techniques and second, how to compare the planned software architecture with the extracted factual architecture. This study aims to use process mining to discover factual software architecture from codes and represents software architecture model in Petri Net to evaluate model by the linear temporal logic and process mining. In this paper, the applicability of process mining techniques, implemented in the ProM6.7 framework is shown to extract and evaluate factual software architectures. Furthermore, capabilities of Hierarchical Colored Petri Net implemented in CPN4.0 are exploited to model and simulate software architectures. The proposed approach has been conducted on a case study to indicate applicability of the approach in the distributed data base system. The final result of the case study indicates process mining is able to extract factual software architectures and also to check its conformance

Intelligent multi-agent system for intrusion detection and countermeasures

    Get PDF
Intelligent mobile agent systems offer a new approach to implementing intrusion detection systems (IDS). The prototype intrusion detection system, MAIDS, demonstrates the benefits of an agent-based IDS, including distributing the computational effort, reducing the amount of information sent over the network, platform independence, asynchronous operation, and modularity offering ease of updates. Anomaly detection agents use machine learning techniques to detect intrusions; one such agent processes streams of system calls from privileged processes. Misuse detection agents match known problems and correlate events to detect intrusions. Agents report intrusions to other agents and to the system administrator through the graphical user interface (GUI);A sound basis has been created for the intrusion detection system. Intrusions have been modeled using the Software Fault Tree Analysis (SFTA) technique; when augmented with constraint nodes describing trust, contextual, and temporal relationships, the SFTA forms a basis for stating the requirements of the intrusion detection system. Colored Petri Nets (CPN) have been created to model the design of the Intrusion Detection System. Algorithmic transformations are used to create CPN templates from augmented SFT and to create implementation templates from CPNs. The implementation maintains the CPN semantics in the distributed agent-based intrusion detection system

Petri net-based approach for web service automation resource coordination

    Get PDF
In industrial automation, control systems and mechatronic devices are from diverse nature, supplied by different manufacturers and made of different technologies. The adoption of web services principles in an automated production system satisfies some requirements, namely the interoperability of such heterogeneous and distributed environments and the basis for flexibility and reconfigurability. Manufacturing processes require to access resources at different precedence levels and time instances, but in the other way resources may also be shared by different processes. A major challenge is then how individual services may interact, coordinating their activities. Petri nets may be used to describe complex system behaviour and therefore also applied to coordinate such systems. The paper introduces a Petri net based approach for the design, analysis and coordination of systems developed using web services to represent individual and autonomous resources. For this purpose, it is presented a Petri nets computational tool to support the design, validation and coordination of web service based automation systems.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
