eABC: scientific publications bibliografic archive

The paper intends to present eABC – Scientific Publications Bibliographic Archive of University of Aveiro’. It describes the motivation that induced its implementation, advantages for users and for all those whom the system serves. Some of the systems functionalities will be presented, along with a description on how to use them. Finally, the current status of the system - as it is being used by the University of Aveiro - will be presented, with the addition of an explanation on how this system helps in the creation of mechanisms that enable the adaptability and flexibility of systems to improve the scientific community dynamics

O propósito deste artigo é o de documentar o desenvolvimento de uma plataforma de software que facilite, a utilizadores pouco versados na utilização de ferramentas de edição multimédia, um serviço de composição e publicação de documentos num servidor WWW, disponibilizá-los numa interface Web sob classificação temática , e apoiar nas buscas relativas aos documentos e outros recursos informativos residentes numa base de dados. Multi-user publishing in the Web : DReSS, a Document Repository Service Station

Many WWW servers contain information written by several authors. These authors either need an account on the server machine, and special permissions to create information in the server space, or else the Webmaster needs to put the information in that space or allow the server to point to the author's own space. We present DReSS, a system to enable authors to deposit (and update) documents on a WWW server, using standard WWW features only. Authors do not need login permission on the server machine, ftp upload access, or even electronic mail. As the documents live in the WWW server space there is no need for the server to be able to access documents outside its space. Thus, our system will work on even the most securely shielded servers (running in a chroot environment). DReSS consists of a set of CGI-scripts and two small auxiliary programs running on the client machine. It can be used with any (HTML-2.0-capable) WWW browser, and with any WWW server. This paper describes the web application based on the J2EE platform indicating the MVC model, Struts framework and file upload issues. The development of internet technology and the will to standardize the mechanisms used in implementation of internet applications was the basis background for the development of J2EE platform. Managing the ACM programming contest

The Association for Computer Machinery (ACM) conducts an international collegiate programming contest held on an annual basis. Teams compete to solve multiple questions within the allotted six hour duration of the contest. A panel of judges grades the solutions online. The team that answers the maximum questions correctly wins the contest. This application will assist in the process of selection of winners of the programming contest. It will make the process of submission of solutions, and grading of the answers convenient. The ACM application is a Java based and web-enabled application and therefore platform independent

Enhanced HTML Editor

Předmětem této bakalářské práce byl návrh rozšířeného HTML editoru. Čtenář je nejdříve seznámen s jazyky HTML a JavaScript. Následuje přehled existujících WYSIWYG HTML editorů a jejich srovnání. Pro navržení rozšířeného HTML editoru bylo nutné specifikovat nevýhody existujících editorů, ze kterých vznikly požadavky na rozšířený editor. Tento byl následně navržen a implementován v jazyce JavaScript zapomoci knihovny Dojo. Pro testování byly navrženy dvě ukázkové webové aplikace: blog a encyklopedie. Aplikace blog byla využita také pro testování uživatelského rozhraní. V průběhu testování si uživatelé vyzkoušeli navržený editor a editor TinyMCE. Na závěr jsou shrnuty výsledky testování a možná budoucí práce na navrženém editoru.Subject of this bachelor's thesis was design of extended HTML editor. Reader is familiarized with HTML and JavaScript languages at first. Following is overview of existing WYSIWYG HTML editors and their comparison. The design of extended HTML editor requires a specification of disadvantages of existing editors. From these, the requirments for extended HTML editor were formed. The editor was designed and implemented using JavaScript and Dojo library. Two web applications were created for testing: blog and encyclopedia. The blog application was used for an user interface testing. Users tried out designed editor and editor TinyMCE during the testing. The results of the testing are summarized in conclusion together with proposal of a future work.

Tutkimuksella pyritään tarjoamaan WWW-ohjelmoinnista kiinnostuneelle lukijalle yleiskuva viestien välittymisestä selaimesta WWW-palvelinohjelman kautta palvelinsovelmalle. Esitellään useita saatavilla olevia kommunikointitekniikoita, tarjoten yleiskatsaus saatavilla olevista rajapinnoista ja protokollista ohjelmakoodiesimerkein. Selainten sisäänrakennettujen viestintäkeinojen lisäksi tarkastellaan suosittujen lisäosien Javan ja Flashin tarjoamia mahdollisuuksia. Esitellään myös jatkuvien yhteyksien käyttöä, jotka tarjoavat yksittäisiin HTTP-kutsuihin verrattuna resursseja säästäviä ja vähälatenssisempia viestintäkeinoja

Ohjelmistoratkaisu vuorovaikutteisiin WWW-pohjaisiin itseopiskelusovelluksiin

This thesis deals with computer-based education of acoustics and digital signal processing. The focus throughout the thesis is on interactive, self-study web-based applications even though many issues are of more general nature as well. The emphasis is especially on describing interactivity while using educational applications and the use of log information for evaluation of learning. The goal for the thesis has been to develop a web-based solution for audio signal processing education with emphasis on advanced, intelligent interactivity. The basis for this interactivity is the double agent architecture for web applications. The architecture allows the control of the interaction process by means of logs and using them as a basis for content adaptation. Furthermore, the novelty of this method is its applicability to evaluation of learning. The log information, provided by the architecture, can be used for on-line evaluation of users' requests and thus provides means for content adaptation. Furthermore, the log information can also be post-processed and used for off-line evaluation of the learning process by both teachers as well as students themselves. The latter has also pedagogical importance supporting the development of self-reflection and metacognitive skills.Työ käsittelee akustiikan ja digitaalisen signaalinkäsittelyn tietokonevusteista opetusta. Painopiste on kautta linjan vuorovaikutteisissa, itseopiskeluun tarkoitetuissa WWW-sovelluksissa, vaikka työssä käsitellään aihepiiriä laajemminkin. Työ keskittyy erityisesti vuorovaikutteisuuden kuvaamiseen ohjelmistoa käytettäessä sekä käytön yhteydessä saatavan lokitiedon hyödyntämiseen oppimisen arvioinnissa. Työn tavoitteena on ollut kehittää etenkin audiosignaalinkäsittelyyn soveltuva ohjelmistoratkaisu hyödyntämällä nykyaikaista WWW-teknologiaa. Avainasemassa on ollut pyrkiä kehittämään nimenomaan älykkään vuorovaikutteisuuden kuvaamiseen sopiva ratkaisu. Vuorovaikutteisuuden perustana toimii WWW-sovelluksille suunniteltu ns. kaksoisagenttiarkkitehtuuri. Arkkitehtuuri mahdollistaa vuorovaikutusprosessin ja sisällön ohjaamisen lokitiedon avulla. Menetelmän keskeisin uusi oivallus on tämän lokitiedon käyttö oppimisen arviointiin. Lokitiedot mahdollistavat sekä reaaliaikaisen käyttäjien toimien analysoinnin ja sisältömateriaalin muokkaamisen tämän mukaisesti, että jälkikäteen tapahtuvan oppimisprosessin arvioinnin. Arviointia voivat jälkikäteen tehdä sekä oppimateriaalin tuottajat (opettajat) että oppimateriaalin käyttäjät (opiskelijat) itsearviointina. Tällä on oppimisen kannalta tärkeä merkitys ns. metakognitiivisten taitojen kehittymiselle
