    Get PDF
The objective of this paper is to investigate the impact of exploration and exploitation capabilities on competitive advantage (hereafter CA) and performance, considering the mediating role of innovation capabilities (hereafter ICs) and the moderating role of organizational learning capability (hereafter OLC) on the proposed relationships. This investigation proposes a theoretical model tested using structural equation modelling (SEM), and a multi-group analysis is performed to understand the moderating role of organizational learning capability. A 90-item questionnaire exploring the relationships between dynamic capabilities (hereafter DCs) and innovation was developed, and a total of 387 valid questionnaires were collected from a sample of Portuguese’s smalland medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), a case of a transition economy. Therefore, this study contributes to the understanding of the direct and indirect impact of exploration and exploitation on CA variables, the mediating role of IC on CA and performance and the moderating effect of OLC in a transition economy.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Examining Knowledge Management Enabled Performance for Hospital Professionals: A Dynamic Capability View and the Mediating Role of Process Capability

    Get PDF
Healthcare organizations are essentially associated with highly knowledge-intensive property, and hospital professionals are key to providing high-quality care to patients. KM-enabled performance for hospital professionals is the major concern of senior management. The literature has generally argued for a process-based approach for KM-enabled performance in which process capabilities mediate the link between knowledge resources and performance. According to the knowledge-based view, KM-enabled performance should be rooted in the identification of knowledge resources, including knowledge assets and capabilities. Further, the concept of dynamic capabilities defines an interaction feature between knowledge assets and capabilities. Next, KM-enabled performance is generally defined to include both financial and patient performance. Based on the dynamic capability view and the mediating role of process capability, this research thus proposes a novel research model for exploring KM-enabled performance for hospital professionals, which this includes three major components: interaction between hospital knowledge assets and capabilities, hospital process capabilities, and hospital performance. The empirical results indicate that the model of KM-enabled performance is well fitted with these components, and hospital professionals are closely associated with KM-enabled performance in providing high-quality care

Industry 4.0 drives enterprises to transform their capabilities especially in innovation and their capabilities to adapt with dynamic market. The capabilities can be fostered when the leader is oriented towards digital technology and market orientation. The role of digital leadership has gained attention for studies to develop innovation and dynamic capabilities based on market orientation. Studies have been conducted on dynamic capabilities with focus on the strategy, management and economic literature including the understanding of its driving key to success. However, the study on the role of digital leadership on the development of dynamic capability based on innovation capability and market orientation has not been intensively discussed. It is argued that the development of dynamic capability and innovation capability is strongly driven from a combination of digital leadership and market orientation. Data in this study is taken from a survey conducted on 88 Indonesian telecom-munication firms as a unit for analyses. The results show that digital leadership had a strong direct and indirect relationship with dynamic capability, however the strong path in developing capability is determined from the development of innovation capability that is driven from digital leadership based on market orientation. The finding reinforces the role of digital leadership as a critical influence on development of dynamic capability. Future studies are suggested to extend the research by exploring the research model to elaborate more on the impact of collaboration, leveraging a larger sample size and better statistical tools. A longitudinal study on the companies that implement the transformation based on dynamic capabilities is also recommended for future studies

This paper focuses on exploring the mediation role of supply chain responsiveness, supply chain agility, and supply chain performance link through a multi-disciplinary review of the relevant research. The systematic literature review aims to provide the basis for formulating a conceptual framework of the relationships. A systematic comprehensive review of the literature on supply chain agility, supply chain responsiveness, and supply chain performance was conducted. The dynamic capabilities perspective literature was also examined to identify the theoretical basis for the contribution of supply chain agility in improving supply chain performance by reconfiguring supply chain responsiveness. The supply chain agility has been mainly explored in the literature with emphasis on the dimensions of the concept. The role of the supply chain agility, as a dynamic capability, in the reconfiguration of the supply chain responsiveness is seen in its quality of operational capability and, consequently, in the improvement of the performance of the supply chain in general

Leveraging Supply Chain Leadership for Dynamic Capabilities and Organisational Resilience

    Get PDF
Organisational resilience has been identified as one of the critical factors in developing sustainable supply chains. To date, extant research discusses the role of dynamic capabilities in enhancing organisational resilience, particularly in developing and reconfiguring internal and external resources to address the changing business environment. Unfortunately, little attention has been paid to exploring the impact of buying firms’ leadership (or supply chain leadership) on the existing relationships between dynamic capabilities and organisational resilience. As a firm’s performance has a significant impact on its entire supply network (in both upstream and downstream orientations), the responsibility to improve organisational resilience could be extended to the buying or focal firms, particularly during unprecedented times such as the pandemic. This study aims to propose a conceptual framework for examining the impact of dynamic capabilities and organisational resilience. In general, this study suggests that dynamic capabilities (adaptive, absorptive, and innovative capabilities) have a significant impact on organisational resilience. Furthermore, this study proposes that supply chain leadership moderates the relationship between dynamic capabilities (adaptive, absorptive, and innovative capabilities) and organisational resilience. It is expected that this study will facilitate discussions on the need to deepen the comprehension of supply chain leadership and its influence on dynamic capabilities and organisational resilience. The study contributes to the existing literature by addressing the gaps between supply chain leadership, dynamic capabilities, and organisational resilience domains

Independent colleges, as transitional form of higher education and spin off organizations in the Chinese context, are inseparable from the dependence on the resources of parent organizations. Meanwhile, independent colleges' dual role comes from considering not only the public good nature of education but also the for profit of investment returns. In view of the dual role feature and heavy dependence on external resources, this study endeavors to define the organizational capability of independent colleges and how it is formed and developed. From the perspective of the paradox lens and taken Xinhua College as research object, this study analyzes the capability building process of spin off organizations and their innovative pattern. The findings are : (1) The process of organizational capability building of independent colleges can be revealed through the dynamic interactive pattern of internal replication and internal innovation. (2) The evolutionary path of the independent colleges' organizational capability is a cyclic construction process with three stages, namely , "fr om external to internal", "capability retention" and "from internal to external". (3) Affected by environmental pressures and opportunities, independent colleges explore balances between public welfare and commercial behaviors. Meanwhile, under the joint promotion of environmental cognition and paradox balance system, independent colleges build the internal innovation capability and complete the cyclical construction of organizational capabilities. The main contributions are: (1) It explores the organizational capabilities of independent colleges in China and deepens the research on organizational capabilities of independent colleges; (2) After exploring the evolutionary process of organizational capabilities of independent college s , this study concludes propositions on the evolution of organizational capability process; (3) It explores the interaction pattern between the paradox balance system and the organization’s dual formation role of organizational capabilities. (4) It reveals the innovation pattern which promotes the innovative motivation of spin off organizations
