    The significant growth in the number of devices and the tremendous boost in network/user traffic types and volume as well as the efficiency constraints of 4G innovations have encouraged industry efforts and also financial investments towards defining, developing, and releasing systems for the fifth generation. The 5G of mobile broadband wireless networks with multiple Radio Access Technologies (Multi-RATs) have actually been designed to satisfy the system and service requirements of the existing as well as the coming applications. The multi-RAT access network is considered the key enabling technology to satisfy these requirements based on low latency, high throughput. To utilize all available network resources efficiently, research activities have been proposed on multi-connectivity to connect, split, steer, switch, and orchestrate across multiple RATs. Recently, multi-connectivity management and orchestration architecture standardization has just started; therefore, further study and research is needed. This project proposed a multi-connectivity management and orchestration architecture integrated with 5G, Long-Term Evolution (LTE), and Wireless LANs (WLAN) technologies. The simulations experiments conducted to measure the Quality of Experience (QoE) by provisioning network resources efficiently, which are: data rate, latency, bit error rate. The results show that the 5G requirements have been achieved with latency and throughput around 1ms and 200 Mbps, respectively

    The 5G Architecture Working Group as part of the 5GPPP Initiative is looking at capturing novel trends and key technological enablers for the realization of the 5G architecture. It also targets at presenting in a harmonized way the architectural concepts developed in various projects and initiatives (not limited to 5GPPP projects only) so as to provide a consolidated view on the technical directions for the architecture design in the 5G era. The first version of the white paper was released in July 2016, which captured novel trends and key technological enablers for the realization of the 5G architecture vision along with harmonized architectural concepts from 5GPPP Phase 1 projects and initiatives.     This deliverable provides the consolidated preliminary view of the METIS-II partners on the 5 th generation (5G) radio access network (RAN) design at a mid-point of the project. The overall 5G RAN is envisaged to operate over a wide range of spectrum bands comprising of heterogeneous spectrum usage scenarios.     Networks and trust: systems for understanding and supporting internet security

    Includes bibliographical references.2022 Fall.This dissertation takes a systems-level view of the multitude of existing trust management systems to make sense of when, where and how (or, in some cases, if) each is best utilized. Trust is a belief by one person that by transacting with another person (or organization) within a specific context, a positive outcome will result. Trust serves as a heuristic that enables us to simplify the dozens decisions we make each day about whom we will transact with. In today's hyperconnected world, in which for many people a bulk of their daily transactions related to business, entertainment, news, and even critical services like healthcare take place online, we tend to rely even more on heuristics like trust to help us simplify complex decisions. Thus, trust plays a critical role in online transactions. For this reason, over the past several decades researchers have developed a plethora of trust metrics and trust management systems for use in online systems. These systems have been most frequently applied to improve recommender systems and reputation systems. They have been designed for and applied to varied online systems including peer-to-peer (P2P) filesharing networks, e-commerce platforms, online social networks, messaging and communication networks, sensor networks, distributed computing networks, and others. However, comparatively little research has examined the effects on individuals, organizations or society of the presence or absence of trust in online sociotechnical systems. Using these existing trust metrics and trust management systems, we design a set of experiments to benchmark the performance of these existing systems, which rely heavily on network analysis methods. Drawing on the experiments' results, we propose a heuristic decision-making framework for selecting a trust management system for use in online systems. In this dissertation we also investigate several related but distinct aspects of trust in online sociotechnical systems. Using network/graph analysis methods, we examine how trust (or lack of trust) affects the performance of online networks in terms of security and quality of service. We explore the structure and behavior of online networks including Twitter, GitHub, and Reddit through the lens of trust. We find that higher levels of trust within a network are associated with more spread of misinformation (a form of cybersecurity threat, according to the US CISA) on Twitter. We also find that higher levels of trust in open source developer networks on GitHub are associated with more frequent incidences of cybersecurity vulnerabilities. Using our experimental and empirical findings previously described, we apply the Systems Engineering Process to design and prototype a trust management tool for use on Reddit, which we dub Coni the Trust Moderating Bot. Coni is, to the best of our knowledge, the first trust management tool designed specifically for use on the Reddit platform. Through our work with Coni, we develop and present a blueprint for constructing a Reddit trust tool which not only measures trust levels, but can use these trust levels to take actions on Reddit to improve the quality of submissions within the community (a subreddit)

    Re-Platformed Planet? The Rise and Spread of Chinese Technology Platform Companies

    This thesis seeks to answer the question—what are the implications if Chinese platform technology companies expand around the world? To answer this question the research assesses whether platforms have powers of influence; if Chinese platforms have such powers; if they do, are they using such powers on behalf of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) outside of China; and what might accelerate or inhibit their global expansion. The research expands on and connects current scholarship in a number of fields, among them: geoeconomics, business, technology & media, influence operations, and political economy. Evidence from a wide range of scholarship, Chinese policy documents, media coverage, and interviews provides answers to these questions. Two frameworks were developed to help evaluate platform influence powers and actors. Findings: Platforms are designed as “architectures of influence,” enabling a core set of actors to exert influence through them. Chinese platforms, have arguably enhanced influence capabilities because of their partnership in building and implementing China’s domestic surveillance and control infrastructure. Where they are expanding globally, there is evidence Chinese platforms are exerting influence on behalf of the CCP—and they are expanding rapidly, particularly in emerging markets. Nevertheless, they have not as yet superseded Western platforms’ presence. However, a number of factors could accelerate Chinese platform proliferation—innovation, loss of confidence in Western models, technology decoupling, internet standards and governance, and China’s technology stack. Other factors could inhibit their expansion—the current regulatory crackdown in China, impressions of China’s domestic and foreign policy actions, weaknesses in China’s soft power, and principal/agent effects. Based on the research and current trends, it is likely that Chinese platforms will continue to expand and act even more effectively on behalf of the CCP. The implications of this could be significant at the country level and for the global order. The thesis concludes with policy recommendations and suggested areas of further research
