    Elementary School Teachers’ Beliefs and Emotions: Implications for School Counselors and Counselor Educators

    An understanding of teacher beliefs and emotions is invaluable for school counselors developing comprehensive counseling programs. This study explored the relationships among elementary school teachers’ beliefs and emotions. Teachers (n = 42) completed surveys related to efficacy beliefs, irrational beliefs, and emotions. Significant relationships were found among the variables under investigation. Implications for how these findings translate to practice for school counselors and counselor educators are addressed. Suggestions for future research are explored

    Kepribadian Guru Sekolah Dasar dan Motivasi Belajar Siswa untuk Memahami Konsep Sains. Penelitian ini ditujukan untuk menggali informasi faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi motivasi belajar anak usia sekolah dasar untuk pemahaman konsep sains. Subjek penelitian adalah 26 anak SD kelas VI di SD RSBI Banten dan guru yang membelajarkannya. Metode pengumpulan data dengan angket tentang strategi motivasi belajar anak (MSLQ=Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionaires), observasi kelas, dan wawancara terstruktur. Analisis data dilakukan untuk mendapatkan gambaran tentang faktor-faktor yang mem-pengaruhi motivasi belajar, dan cross-case analysis untuk setiap anak. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa setiap anak mempunyai faktor motivasi yang berbeda dalam belajar sains. Kepribadian guru yang unik, seperti kedekatan serta berusaha untuk memahami dan menghargai potensi anak didik dapat mening-katkan motivasi anak belajar sains. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa di dalam proses pembelajaran sains untuk Perubahan konseptual, seorang guru sekolah dasar harus memahami pentingnya faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi motivasi anak untuk belajar, termasuk kepribadian yang dapat diterima, sehingga mereka dapat mengikuti proses pembelajaran dengan lebih bermakna.     Critical Thinking Skills of Prospective Elementary School Teachers in Integrated Science-Mathematics Lectures

    The purpose of this study is to find out the critical thinking skills indicators and aspects of prospective elementary school teachers in mathematics-science integration lectures on electrical circuits and mathematical logic lesson. This research uses random sampling technique in which 30 first semester students were chosen randomly from one of university in Padang region West Sumatera Indonesia. This research uses Research and Development (R & D). The critical thinking skills are seen from processes, observations, and tests. The process of critical thinking skills of prospective elementary school teachers on the average of critical thinking skills indicator is 84% in strategies and tactics, 80% in advanced clarification and 83% in elementary clarification, basic support, and inference. The result of observing the critical thinking skills of prospective elementary school teachers on the average of each lectures is significantly increased to be 81.9%. The results of pre-test and post-test were increased significantly. It is shown from N-gain of 0.7 to be medium category

    This study aimed to determine the contribution is (1) the principal managerial skills to the performance of elementary school teachers in District VIII Sukasada Force (2) organizational culture on the performance of elementary school teachers (3) achievement motivation on the performance of elementary school teachers, and (4) jointly between Managerial ability Principal, Organizational Culture and Achievement Motivation teacher on the performance of elementary school teachers in Cluster VIII Sukasada District. The study population was a primary school teacher in Cluster VIII Sukasada totaling 40 people. 36 people were taken as the study sample. This study uses ex-post facto design. The study involved three independent variables, namely: Managerial Ability Principal, Organizational Culture, Teachers Achievement Motivation and one dependent variable, the Teacher Performance. Data were collected by questionnaires. Data were analyzed by using the technique multiple regression and partial correlation. The results showed that (1) the principal managerial skills to contribute to the performance of elementary school teachers in Cluster VIII District Sukasada with a contribution of 51.9% and the effective contribution of 24.19%, (2) organizational culture contribute to the performance of elementary school teachers with a contribution of 66.6% and the effective contribution of 37.7%, (3) achievement motivation of teachers contributing to the performance of elementary school teachers with a contribution of 61.30% and the effective contribution of 22.01% , and (4) jointly between Managerial ability Principal, Organizational Culture and Achievement Motivation teacher contribute to the performance of elementary school teachers in Cluster VIII District Sukasada with a contribution of 83.9%

    An Investigation On Pre-Service Elementary School Teachers’ Mathematics Anxiety

    The aims of this study are to (1) determine the level of mathematics anxiety (MA) of pre-service elementary school teachers, (2) compare the MA among pre-service elementary school teachers in terms of gender, and (3) compare the MA among pre-service elementary school teachers in terms of the semester. This research employed a quantitative approach with comparative research design. In addition, the samples were 498 pre-service elementary school teachers. The instrument used is the Revised-Mathematics Anxiety Survey (R-MANX) developed by Bursal and Paznokas (2006). R-MANX consists of 30 statement of a 5-point Likert scale. The data analysis was processed using one-way ANOVA assisted by SPSS version 23. The findings reveal that the MA of pre-service elementary school teachers is high. Further, it is revealed that there is no significant MA difference between male and female pre-service elementary school teachers. Also, there is no significance of MA difference among pre-service elementary school teachers who are in 2nd semester, 4th semester, and 6th semester. Therefore, the results of this research imply that MA can affect pedagogical competence of a teacher and it could have an impact on the way the teacher manages the class

    The aims of this study were (1) to describe the understanding of elementary school teachers in Cirebon City about independent curriculum policies, (2) to describe the readiness of elementary school teachers in Cirebon City to formulate learning objectives for the Pancasila profile, (3) to describe the readiness of elementary school teachers in Cirebon City to implement learning 21st century, and (4) describes the readiness of elementary school teachers in Cirebon City in identifying students' self-potential. This study uses a survey research design and needs assessment. The population of this study were public elementary school teachers in Cirebon City. There are 128 public elementary schools in Cirebon city, so the population of this study is 768 teachers. The sample was determined using simple random sampling technique. Based on Issac Michael's table with a 5% sampling error, a total sample of 238 teachers was obtained. The data collection technique uses a questionnaire instrument given to teachers and interviews with several key informants. The key informants in this study were the Head of Basic Education in Cirebon City and several school principals. The results of this study are (1) public elementary school teachers in Cirebon City understand the essence of the Independent Curriculum policy, (2) public elementary school teachers in Cirebon city understand in formulating learning objectives for Pancasila student profiles, (3) public elementary school teachers in the city Cirebon is ready to implement 21st century learning, (4) Public Elementary School teachers in Cirebon City are ready to identify various kinds of potential in students.     The Influence of Pedagogic Competency, Leadership of Schools, and Work Motivation Towards Teacher Performance in State Elementary Schools in Medan City

    Teacher performance is the result of work achieved when planning, implementing, and assessing learning in schools. The results showed: (1) the effect of pedagogic competence on the work motivation of public elementary school teachers in the Medan City is 0.242; (2) the influence of the principal's leadership on the work motivation of State elementary school teachers in the Medan City is 0.238; (3) the influence of pedagogical competence on the performance of public elementary school teachers in the Medan City is 0.259; (4) the influence of principal leadership on the performance of public elementary school teachers in the Medan City is 0.207; and (5) the effect of work motivation on the performance of public elementary school teachers in the Medan City is 0.200. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the pedagogic competence, principal leadership, and work motivation on teacher performance was 28.7% and the rest was determined by other circumstances

    A General Chemistry Course for Prospective Elementary School Teachers

    The paper describes a general chemistry course designed for students who are planning to become elementary school teachers. The course has been structured so as to transmit the fun and excitement of experiencing chemistry and uncovering its basic principles by centering on laboratory and other discovery experiences. In addition, the course uses peer led workshops in which the students discuss these experiences. The course is thus a product of a particularly strong collaboration between public schools and college faculties. It is going to become a part of a new four-course sequence that will be required of all students intending to earn elementary education certification at Lehman College

    The objective of this research is to know the correlation between the academies ability, achievement motivation, and the performance of candidate of elementary school teachers. The research was a correlation study using multiple correlation and multiple regression analysis to test hypotheses. The population was the fourth grade students of PGSD program of FKIPUNS in the year 2007/2008. The sample used was 100 students. The data were obtained by using likert scala model questionnaires, test, and portfolio. The result of research shows that there is a positive correlation between (1) the academic ability and the performance of candidate of elementary school teachers ( r = 0.297 p < 0.05), (2) achievement motivation the performance of candidate of elementary school teachers ( r = 221 p<0.05), and the academic ability and achievement motivation simultaneously, and the performance of candidate of elementary school teachers (R=0.404 p<0.05).     The Needs Analysis of Training for Elementary School Teachers (Prior Analysis to the Research of Professional and Pedagogical Competencies Development in Civics Education)

    ABSTRACT Purpose–Research on teacher training needs analysis in order to study the development of pedagogical and professional elementary school teachers competencies in Civic education aims to describe the level of pedagogical and professional’ elementary school teachers competencies gap and to describe the elementary teacher training needs in order to develop pedagogical and professional deficit. Method–This study is a descriptive research. The study sites spread across the elementary school teachers in 8 subdistricts which are Suruh, Bancak, Bringin, Pabelan, Tengaran, Kaliwungu, Getasan and Ambarawa. The sample consists of 72 teachers, taken by purposive clusters sampling. Data collection technique is using self-evaluation in the form of questionnaire that has been tested for the validity and reliability. Analysis showed that the corrected item-total correlation is 0,794 for the highest and 0,221 for the lowest. Reliability test results showed that the alpha reliability coefficient is 0.945. Moreover, the techniques of data analysis are using descriptive statistical analysis and gap analysis. Findings –The result of the analysis shows that there are1) the gap of teachers’ pedagogic competency is 23.07 %, 2) the gap of teachers professional competency is 30 % , dan 3) the gap of pedagogic and professional competencies includes;(a) developing the curriculum which is related to Civics Education, (b) conducting assesment and evaluation of the process and result of learning process, (c) using the result of assesment and evaluation for the sake of teaching and learning, (d) Doing refective action (Class Action Research) to enhance teaching and learning process, (e) mastering the concept and principle of protection and development of Human Rights and also fair and proper law enforcement, (f) developing the material of civics education creatively, (g) developing sustainable profesionalism through reflective action, (h) using information technology and communication for self developing action. Significance–This research discusses about the gap of elementary school teachers’ competencies, spesifically civics education. Gap occurs when there is discrepancy between ideal competencies and empirical competencies of teachers’ performance.
