Reconstruction of permutations distorted by single transposition errors
The reconstruction problem for permutations on elements from their
erroneous patterns which are distorted by transpositions is presented in this
paper. It is shown that for any an unknown permutation is uniquely
reconstructible from 4 distinct permutations at transposition distance at most
one from the unknown permutation. The {\it transposition distance} between two
permutations is defined as the least number of transpositions needed to
transform one into the other. The proposed approach is based on the
investigation of structural properties of a corresponding Cayley graph. In the
case of at most two transposition errors it is shown that
erroneous patterns are required in order to reconstruct an unknown permutation.
Similar results are obtained for two particular cases when permutations are
distorted by given transpositions. These results confirm some bounds for

Characterization and Efficient Search of Non-Elementary Trapping Sets of LDPC Codes with Applications to Stopping Sets
In this paper, we propose a characterization for non-elementary trapping sets
(NETSs) of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes. The characterization is based
on viewing a NETS as a hierarchy of embedded graphs starting from an ETS. The
characterization corresponds to an efficient search algorithm that under
certain conditions is exhaustive. As an application of the proposed
characterization/search, we obtain lower and upper bounds on the stopping
distance of LDPC codes.
We examine a large number of regular and irregular LDPC codes, and
demonstrate the efficiency and versatility of our technique in finding lower
and upper bounds on, and in many cases the exact value of, . Finding
, or establishing search-based lower or upper bounds, for many of the
examined codes are out of the reach of any existing algorithm

Rigidity of Frameworks Supported on Surfaces
A theorem of Laman gives a combinatorial characterisation of the graphs that
admit a realisation as a minimally rigid generic bar-joint framework in
\bR^2. A more general theory is developed for frameworks in \bR^3 whose
vertices are constrained to move on a two-dimensional smooth submanifold \M.
Furthermore, when \M is a union of concentric spheres, or a union of parallel
planes or a union of concentric cylinders, necessary and sufficient
combinatorial conditions are obtained for the minimal rigidity of generic
