Basic Properties of Metrizable Topological Spaces
We continue Mizar formalization of general topology according
to the book [11] by Engelking. In the article, we present the final theorem of
Section 4.1. Namely, the paper includes the formalization of theorems on the
correspondence between the cardinalities of the basis and of some open subcover,
and a discreet (closed) subspaces, and the weight of that metrizable topological
space. We also define Lindel¨of spaces and state the above theorem in this special
case. We also introduce the concept of separation among two subsets (see [12]).Institute of Computer Science, University of Białystok, PolandGrzegorz Bancerek. Cardinal arithmetics. Exponential Objects
In the first part of this article we formalize the concepts of terminal and initial object, categorical product [4] and natural transformation within a free-object category [1]. In particular, we show that this definition of natural transformation is equivalent to the standard definition [13]. Then we introduce the exponential object using its universal property and we show the isomorphism between the exponential object of categories and the functor category [12].Via del Pero 102, 54038 Montignoso, ItalyJiri Adamek, Horst Herrlich, and George E. Finite Product of Semiring of Sets
AbstractWe formalize that the image of a semiring of sets [17] by an injective function is a semiring of sets.We offer a non-trivial example of a semiring of sets in a topological space [21]. Finally, we show that the finite product of a semiring of sets is also a semiring of sets [21] and that the finite product of a classical semiring of sets [8] is a classical semiring of sets. In this case, we use here the notation from the book of Aliprantis and Border [1].Rue de la Brasserie 5 7100 La Louvière, BelgiumCharalambos D. Aliprantis and Kim C. Border. Elementary Introduction to Stochastic Finance in Discrete Time
This article gives an elementary introduction to stochastic finance (in discrete time). A formalization of random variables is given and some elements of Borel sets are considered. Furthermore, special functions (for buying a present portfolio and the value of a portfolio in the future) and some statements about the relation between these functions are introduced. Implementing Brouwer's database of strongly regular graphs
Andries Brouwer maintains a public database of existence results for strongly
regular graphs on vertices. We implemented most of the infinite
families of graphs listed there in the open-source software Sagemath, as well
as provided constructions of the "sporadic" cases, to obtain a graph for each
set of parameters with known examples. Besides providing a convenient way to
verify these existence results from the actual graphs, it also extends the
database to higher values of .Comment: 18 pages, LaTe
Why Delannoy numbers?
This article is not a research paper, but a little note on the history of
combinatorics: We present here a tentative short biography of Henri Delannoy,
and a survey of his most notable works. This answers to the question raised in
the title, as these works are related to lattice paths enumeration, to the
so-called Delannoy numbers, and were the first general way to solve Ballot-like
problems. These numbers appear in probabilistic game theory, alignments of DNA
sequences, tiling problems, temporal representation models, analysis of
algorithms and combinatorial structures.Comment: Presented to the conference "Lattice Paths Combinatorics and Discrete
Distributions" (Athens, June 5-7, 2002) and to appear in the Journal of
Statistical Planning and Inference
Physics in Riemann's mathematical papers
Riemann's mathematical papers contain many ideas that arise from physics, and
some of them are motivated by problems from physics. In fact, it is not easy to
separate Riemann's ideas in mathematics from those in physics. Furthermore,
Riemann's philosophical ideas are often in the background of his work on
science. The aim of this chapter is to give an overview of Riemann's
mathematical results based on physical reasoning or motivated by physics. We
also elaborate on the relation with philosophy. While we discuss some of
Riemann's philosophical points of view, we review some ideas on the same
subjects emitted by Riemann's predecessors, and in particular Greek
philosophers, mainly the pre-socratics and Aristotle. The final version of this
paper will appear in the book: From Riemann to differential geometry and
relativity (L. Ji, A. Papadopoulos and S. Yamada, ed.) Berlin: Springer, 2017
