    Projekt Lissom se zabývá metodologií hardware/software co-design. V rámci tohoto projektu bylo vyvinuto prostředí pro návrh víceprocesorových systémů na čipu. Prostředí umožnuje i návrh aplikací pro víceprocesorové systémy. Součástí prostředí je i ladicí nástroj, který umožňuje ladění aplikací pro jednoprocesorové systémy. V této práci je vývojové prostředí popsáno a je navrženo a implementováno rozšíření stávajícího ladicího nástroje o možnosti ladění víceprocesorových systémů na základě požadavků standardu NexusThe Lissom project deals with the hardware-software co-design methodology. In this project, an integrated desktop environment for a design of multiprocessor systems on chip was developed. This environment can be used also for developing applications for multiprocessor systems. One part of the environment is a debugger that can be used to debug single core systems. In this thesis, a single processor debugger tool is described in detail and an extension to this tool is proposed and implemented based on the Nexus standard. The extended debugger allows debugging of multiprocessor systems.

    Real-time fault injection using enhanced on-chip debug infrastructures

    The rapid increase in the use of microprocessor-based systems in critical areas, where failures imply risks to human lives, to the environment or to expensive equipment, significantly increased the need for dependable systems, able to detect, tolerate and eventually correct faults. The verification and validation of such systems is frequently performed via fault injection, using various forms and techniques. However, as electronic devices get smaller and more complex, controllability and observability issues, and sometimes real time constraints, make it harder to apply most conventional fault injection techniques. This paper proposes a fault injection environment and a scalable methodology to assist the execution of real-time fault injection campaigns, providing enhanced performance and capabilities. Our proposed solutions are based on the use of common and customized on-chip debug (OCD) mechanisms, present in many modern electronic devices, with the main objective of enabling the insertion of faults in microprocessor memory elements with minimum delay and intrusiveness. Different configurations were implemented starting from basic Components Off-The-Shelf (COTS) microprocessors, equipped with real-time OCD infrastructures, to improved solutions based on modified interfaces, and dedicated OCD circuitry that enhance fault injection capabilities and performance.     The goal of this thesis is to analyze the post-silicon validation hardware infrastructure implemented on multicore systems taking as an example Esperanto Technologies SoC, which has thousands of RISC-V processors and targets specific software applications. Then, based on the conclusions of the analysis, the project proposes a new post-silicon debug architecture that can fit on any System on-Chip without depending on its target application or complexity and that optimizes the options available on the market for multicore systems

    The Design of a Debugger Unit for a RISC Processor Core

    Recently, there has been a significant increase in design complexity for Embedded Systems often referred to as Hardware Software Co-Design. Complexity in design is due to both hardware and firmware closely coupled together in-order to achieve features for low power, high performance and low area. Due to these demands, embedded systems consist of multiple interconnected hardware IPs with complex firmware algorithms running on the device. Often such designs are available in bare-metal form, i.e without an Operating System, which results in difficulty while debugging due to lack of insight into the system. As a result, development cycle and time to market are increased. One of the major challenges for bare-metal design is to capture internal data required during debugging or testing in the post silicon validation stage effectively and efficiently. Post-silicon validation can be performed by leveraging on different technologies such as hardware software co-verification using hardware accelerators, FPGA emulation, logic analyzers, and so on which reduces the complete development cycle time. This requires the hardware to be instrumented with certain features which support debugging capabilities. As there is no standard for debugging capabilities and debugging infrastructure, it completely depends on the manufacturer to manufacturer or designer to designer. This work aims to implement minimum required features for debugging a bare-metal core by instrumenting the hardware compatible for debugging. It takes into consideration the fact that for a single core bare-metal embedded systems silicon area is also a constraint and there must be a trade-off between debugging capabilities which can be implemented in hardware and portions handled in software. The paper discusses various debugging approaches developed and implemented on various processor platforms and implements a new debugging infrastructure by instrumenting the Open-source AMBER 25 core with a set of debug features such as breakpoints, current state read, trace and memory access. Interface between hardware system and host system is designed using a JTAG standard TAP controller. The resulting design can be used in debugging and testing during post silicon verification and validation stages. The design is synthesized using Synopsys Design Compiler targeting a 65 nm technology node and results are compared for the instrumented and non-instrumented system

    CONTROLLING AND MONITORING OF SERVO MOTOR THROUGH EMBEDDED HTTP SERVER ON ARM BOARD

    The positioning of servo motor is controlled by sourcing the servo with PWM signal of varying pulse width. The pulse width of the PWM signal can be manipulated through a web interface hosted on ARM board programmed as an embedded HTTP server where control application by an embedded system can be monitored and managed remotely. Embedded HTTP server network stack is based on modified TCP/IP protocol suite where only important features are used. A web server for user interface is created using HTML and JavaScript is hosted together with the network stack. The ARM board is equipped with RTOS to enable real time control response between the interface and the servo motor. Two tasks namely PWM and TCP/IP task are configured to enable execution from RTOS based on their priorities. Under executions, a slider inside web interface controls the turning of servo motor with the degree of rotation is displayed on the web interface

    An Application Specific Instruction Set Processor (ASIP) is widely used as a System on a Chip(SoC) Component. ASIPs possess an instruction set which is tai-lored to benefit a specific application. Such specialization allows ASIPs to serve as an intermediate between two dominant processor design styles- ASICs which has high processing abilities at the cost of limited programmability and Programmable solu-tions such as FPGAs that provide programming exibility at the cost of less energy eficiency. In this dissertation the goal is to design ASIP, keeping in mind a temper-ature sensor system. The platform used for processor design is LISA 2.0 description language and processor designing environment from CoWare. Coware processor de-signer allows processor architecture to be defined at an abstract level and automatic generation of chain of software tools like assembler, linker and simulator for functional verification followed by RTL level description. RTL level description is used to gen-erate synthesized report of the design using RTL compiler and finally the layout is created using Cadence encounter

    A general technique for deterministic model-cycle-level debugging

    Efficient use of FPGA resources requires FPGA-based performance models of complex hardware to implement one model cycle, i.e., one time-step of the original synchronous system, in several implementation cycles. Generally implementation cycles have no simple relationship with model cycles, and it is tricky to reconstruct the state of the synchronous system at the model-cycle boundaries if only implementation-cycle-level control and information is provided. A good debugging facility needs to provide: complete control over the functioning of the target design being simulated; fast and easy access to all the significant target design state for both monitoring and modification; and some means of accomplishing deterministic execution when the target design is a multicore processor running a parallel application. Moreover, these features need to be provided in a manner which does not incur substantial resource and performance penalties. In this paper, we present a debugging technique based on the LI-BDN theory. We show how the technique facilitates deterministic model-cycle-level debugging. We used it to build the debugging infrastructure for Arete, which is an FPGA-based cycle-accurate multicore simulator. The resource and performance penalties of our debugging technique are minimal; in Arete the debugging infrastructure has area and performance overheads of 5% and 6%, respectively.IBM Researc

    A heterogeneous computer vision architecture: implementation issues

    The prototype of a heterogeneous architecture is currently being built. The architecture is aimed at video-rate computing and is based on a message passing MIMD topology at the top level-transputer based-and on VLSI associative processor arrays (APA, SIMD structure) for low level image processing tasks. The APA structure is implemented through a set of 4 VLSI chips (GLiTCH) containing 64 1-bit processing elements each. This communication addresses some issues concerning the implementation of the first prototype, namely those related to: • the design and integration of the APA controller unit, which provides the required interface between the APA, the MIMD topology and the video image interface: • the evaluation of the GLiTCH chip through an emulator based on transputers and fast programmable devices; the emulator was designed to be flexible enough to evaluate later modifications to the GLiTCH design; • the design of an integrated set of software development tools containing a structured editor-syntax oriented, with a visual interface/programming interface-and a cross compiler and debugger

    Microprocessor and FPGA interfaces for in-system co-debugging in field programmable hybrid systems

    Modern trends in technology require efficient control and processing platforms based on connected software-hardware subsystems. Due to their complexity and size, algorithms implemented on these platforms are difficult to test and verify. When these types of solution are being designed, it is necessary to provide information of the internal values of registers and memories of both the software and hardware during the execution of the complete system. The final architecture of the targeted design and its debugging capabilities strongly depends on how the hybrid system is connected and clocked. This article discusses different architectural strategies that have been adopted for a hybrid hardware-software platform, built ready for debugging, and that uses components that can be easily found with a few special features. All the solutions have been implemented and evaluated using the UNSHADES-2 framework
